Chapter 12 Revolution and Armistice

The battle on Canae hill was fierce. The Empire's main army had arrived in this region a few weeks ago. However, there was no progress regarding the battle at Canae Hill. For several days in a row the Imperial army attacked the towers and fortresses on Canae hill and the result was a defeat. When they wanted to attack again, a few days later there was already a new tower built by the Federation.

This war had reached a dead end, the Federation also made several counterattacks. However, the strength of their army was unable to resist the Empire's forces that were so organized and powerful. In the end, both sides had serious problems regarding the war supplies.

In the main encampment of the Imperial army, in the leader's special tent. Prince Louis and Princess Mitia were discussing a war with General Frederick. This meeting is very important to keep the war supplies for the future.

General Frederick read the latest inventory report. His expression slowly turned to anxiety and worry. “It has been a month since we attacked the Federation on this hill. The development of war is very unfavorable for our supplies” General Frederick said with a sigh. “With current supplies, our troops can only last 1 week longer”

“How about help from Dylurd city?” ask Prince Louis.

“They are trying to gather resources. It will take at least 3-4 more weeks” replied General Frederick.

In an unfortunate situation, a miracle happened. A Lieutenant General reported to General Frederick, “Sorry to interrupt the meeting time of the Generals” said Letjen while saluting.

“What's up?” ask General Frederick.

“There is someone who wants to deliver a message to the Imperial Marshal, he is from Federated”, the Lieutenant General said.

“Message? bring him here” said Prince Louis.

Why is there a message from the Federation? Is it possible that they are also having the same problem as us?

Someone entered with two soldiers escorting him from behind. The man read out a letter he had brought from the Federation in front of Prince Louis. “For the Imperial Marshal, I as the Federation Marshal made an offer. As the continuing war in the Canae hills overwhelmed both the Federation and the Empire mentally and physically, we the Federation submitted a provisional ceasefire proposal for 3 months”.

Everyone who heard that suddenly fell silent, an atmosphere that was very awkward to speak. Prince Louis just smiled then asked everyone except Princess Mitia and General Fredrick out of the tent. The three discussed, after it was finished. Princess Mitia wrote a reply letter then given to the person who delivered the message earlier.

This truce agreement was one of the crossroads of the fate of the Federation and the Empire. In the future, many historical journals discuss that the Federation Marshal was short-minded and too afraid to take risks. If he did not take the decision of the armistice agreement then it was certain that the Imperial troops would withdraw due to the lack of war supplies.

A few days later the Federation sent several carts to the Empire. The wagon contained several crates of gold coins. The Empire finally officially signed a ceasefire agreement against the Federation for 3 months. The Federation paid war compensation in the canae hills and in the union city for the Empire to sign the armistice agreement.

Most of the Federation forces retreated from the Canae hills as well as the Imperial side. Prince Louis and Princess Mitia return to the Imperial Capital and await reports from spies sent to Federation forces.

Two weeks later, the atmosphere in the royal palace felt so heavy. Reports from the spies finally arrived, and Prince Louis and Princess Mitia gathered in their private rooms. The light beams from the lamp lit up gently, highlighting the emotional look on their faces.

Prince Louis unrolled the report and carefully read it. His eyes glazed over as he discovered a reality that shook his mind. He was silent for a moment, digesting the shocking news. Prince Louis finally understood the strong reason why the Federation Marshal had submitted a ceasefire agreement to the Empire.

Princess Mitia saw Prince Louis' facial expression and soon realized that something bad was happening. Quickly, he approached the Prince and asked attentively, "What's up, Prince?"

Prince Louis raised his gaze and looked into Princess Mitia's eyes lovingly. He took off the entire armor attached to his body, feeling that at this moment he needed to remain firm to calm Princess Mitia down. Then, he sat down on the bed and invited Princess Mitia to sit down together.

"From the spy reports, I got some unexpected news" Prince Louis said in a soft voice. "The Welburg King has been killed by a pro-war faction in the Federation."

"He is a good and wise father" muttered Princess Mitia among her cries. "I miss him, Prince."

Prince Louis stroked Princess Mitia's back gently, trying to give her heart a calm break. "We will always remember his merits, and I'm sure he's very proud to have a daughter as strong and as smart as you."

Slowly, Princess Mitia's cry subsided. He lifted his face and looked at the Prince's eyes with determination. "I promise, I will continue my father's struggle. We will reclaim the kingdom of Dartensia from the pro-war faction!"

Prince Louis smiled confidently, "We will do it together. Not just the Kingdom of Dartensia. I promise the entire territory of the Federation will be the territory of the Empire led by you"

The Kingdom of Dartensia was a territory led by the noble of the Darte family, the family of Princess Mitia.

The Federation marshal took the decision to propose a ceasefire agreement due to the Federation's internal political situation which was particularly vulnerable due to the death of King Welburg, the leader of the Federation. The territory of the Federation can be attacked from two directions, in the northern region of the Federation there is the Republic of Liberk which is rumored to cooperate with pro-war factions. In the end, in order to maintain the Federation's complete sovereignty, the ceasefire agreement was essential for the Federation to focus on internal political affairs.

General Hans became the leader of the pro-war faction. He was a ruthless General, he did not even hesitate to kill his own partner to achieve his goal. The pro-war faction's goal was revenge against the Empire. During the time of Emperor Warlin III, much of the Jurgan Kingdom was an easy target at that time.

The Jurgan Kingdom was a small, neutral kingdom between the Empire and the Federation. As it was not part of the Federation, the Jurgan kingdom was often colonized by the Imperial side to take on resources and mercenaries. In the end the Kingdom joined the Federation and is now the most powerful fortress city in the Federation on the northern region on the border, the Empire retreated from the north and the territory it left behind became part of the Liberk Republic.

General Hans wanted to take revenge against an Empire so vile to a kingdom or a country that did not sign the political agreement they had proposed.

General Hans, along with some of the generals, were discussing in the city of Tiberk, the border region between the Federation and the Republic of Liberk.

“Governor, I am so happy to meet you” General Hans smiled.

The governor of the Tiberk city sat on a chair, while the generals of the Federation sat in a long chair before him. Among them was a window so wide, from the window it could be seen that the city of Tiberk was a great success as it was a strategic region connecting the Federation and the Empire.

“There is no need for pleasantries” said the Governor staring at General Hans cynically. “Republik Tiberk will not lend a penny to Federacy” he said firmly.

“Dana?” muttered General Hans with a cold look. “Do you think we came here to give debt to the Republic? What my face says like that”

The governor saw General Hans' serious expression, but he could not immediately believe his words. “I heard that the Federation experienced a very significant economic decline due to losing the war in the city of the union and the enormous cost of the war on the hill of Canae. If not to lend funds, what is your purpose here!” ask the governor in a high tone.

“Empire, our destination is Empire”, General Hans said standing up. “In the meantime, the Empire will declare war on the entire western mainland. I'm sure it will happen when the Federation succeeds in their capture. For that, we invite you to attack the Imperial side first in the border area of the Republic and Empire.”

“Don't we have the same enemy, Governor?” general Hans said with great confidence.

The meeting was unknown to the pro-Empire Federation. The cooperation of the Liberk Republic and the Federation would really create a split between the Federation itself. Nevertheless, the Federation Marshal along with his trusted generals continued to seek support for the Federation's own sovereignty.
