Chapter 1 ~ Prologue

"Mom, Mommy, wake up!" Xavier's small voice instantly jolted Ruby awake.

Ruby's gaze darkened when she thought of her dream. He had been in the dark for a long time. He could not even remember the last time he dreamed of those events. But he dreamed about that man again. Why now?

Ruby blinked her eyes and found that she was not lying in a hospital bed, but in a plane seat. There's no blood. His leg is not broken. And most importantly, he is still alive. He didn't die and it was all a dream.

Ruby was silent for a long time. He thought about many things and when he touched his face, he felt wet there.

Ruby received the handkerchief and wiped away the tears that stained her face. "I'm.." Ruby paused for a moment. His look was full of doubt. After some thought, he chose to ignore Xavier's first question. "I'm fine, Xavier."

Next to Xavier's eyebrows raised. "You sure?"

Ruby nodded. "Surely," he answered. "By the way, where's your sister?" Rubi switched the conversation quickly.

"He sleeps in his chair" Xavier replied as he glanced at Sean who was fast asleep in his chair. The ten-year-old little boy understood that Ruby was reluctant to answer his question. Knowing what Xavier was thinking, Ruby stroked the boy's handsome face. "Don't think too much, Xavier. I'm not thinking about your Daddy. You know, you and I, all of us, are fine even without him." His gaze was warm, attentive. Regardless of whether he was being honest or not, the truth is that their lives were fine even without Osvaldo.

Ruby did not respond to her secretary's words. He closed his eyes as the memory of the terrible day returned to him.
