Vidrian does not know what demons he met recently, but he feels that every time he sees Ruby, the woman will be different from before. He was like a swamp, tempting him to go deeper and deeper.
Ruby raised her eyebrows and said dismissively, "Then, do you think you have a chance now?"
Vidrian woke up from his daydream. Ruby's words were so cruel that she felt her heart and gallbladder split open. But this is not a good time to dramatize the pain. Since Ruby was already standing in front of him and was willing to talk to him, there was nothing more important than talking heart to heart with the woman.
Forget that pain.
He is not someone who drowns easily with such uncomfortable feelings. In addition, he did not want to show his feelings clearly.
"I think yes" replied Vidrian after a long silence.
Ruby chuckles. "How should I call you? Not having any shame? Or.. not knowing yourself?"
"Ruby." Vidrian's voice was low. "Please."
"Unfortunately, I'm not a generous person." That way Ruby prepares to close the windshield of her car.
But Vidrian hurriedly prevented it. "Ten minutes." Then he shook his head. "No. Just five minutes. Yeah, just five minutes. No more than that."
Ruby looked at Vidrian and measured him.
The handsome face of the man did not show much emotion. The dark eyes were cold as usual. When their gazes met, it suddenly felt strange to Ruby.
It was like deja vu.
Back then, he chased after her and wanted to join her circle. But the man rejected her mercilessly. He said he didn't have the time or energy to handle it.
Naturally, due to the lack of time and manpower, the man was indifferent to her even after they got married. But now, after eight years had passed, what did he want? There's no way she wants to go back with him, is she?
Really ridiculous.
Rejection in the past, is the reason why Ruby chose to step down. He thought, that's the best. And yes, in fact it is the best.
"Ruby," call Vidrian.
Ruby winks, waking up from her delusion, refusing to be dominated by the haunting melancholia again. He will spend every moment of his life appreciating what he has now. So, there is no point in lingering in the past anymore
Ruby let out a long sigh before saying, "Say!"
Vidrian pulled the tie off before saying, "I'm sure you know that I already knew that you were Rubika, my ex-wife, and Savanna's mother." He looked at Ruby with a stifled feeling, not daring to show it.
Ruby raised her eyebrows. "Then?"
Vidrian smiled faintly. "You don't deny it?" tanyakanya. As she expected, Ruby knew everything. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been this calm as he asked that question.
Given how their first encounter at the restaurant was, and how Ruby denied everything, why she had suddenly changed, she felt this woman already had some sort of scheme. A scheme that might not be good for him.
But for a while he also ruled that out.
Regardless of what plan Ruby was planning at the moment, she would think about it slowly after successfully making Ruby soften. When it was time, he didn't know. Obviously, the road is long. Not only long, most likely not even endless.
Ruby shrugged her shoulders. "You want me to deny it?"
"No," said Vidrian, quickly. "I'm glad you don't deny it." He paused for a moment before continuing. "Ruby, I miss you." Really am. Miss you so much. For this sentence, he just kept it in his heart.
Ruby did not answer. It also does not show much emotion. It could be said that he was even as calm as before, as if his words had not affected him in the least.
Ruby lowered her head, chuckling. "Isn't that funny?" Laughing at the taste that once existed? Yes, in the end he was able to do it after eight years had passed. In his early years, he was injured and cried without pause. Now, in the end he can laugh at the silliness of the past. Something he thought he couldn't do.
"Yes?"
"You signed the divorce papers when I presented them. I thought you were so happy to divorce me. But, look, what are you doing now? You came in front of me and said you miss me? Doesn't that sound like a joke?" He chuckles back. "Come on, this is not your usual style, Vidrian," he said. "Be the you you you are as always. That looks better." That way, Ruby closed the window of her car and drove her car through the gate.
Leaving Vidrian alone in the darkness was still dumbfounded while staring at Ruby's car which slowly moved away.
Staring at Vidrian through the rearview mirror, Ruby's head became very sick. The sealed memories returned to him like unstoppable waves.
***
After returning to the residence, Ruby slept for some time.
And as soon as he woke up, his head became even more painful.
He forced his body to get up and walk to the sofa. Then he took out his bag to take out a bottle of pills. His hands trembled as he took out some and put it in his mouth. The bottle fell and the pills spilled onto the floor.
His body collapsed to the side of the sofa, his eyes empty.
Doctor Stuart is right. His depression never healed. He was just trying to hide from those things. But reality is really cruel because it forces him to remember everything.
Thirty minutes passed when Ruby's bedroom door was knocked from the outside.
Ruby turned to the door and was silent for a while before saying, "Come in!"
A tall man in neat clothes walked towards Ruby and bowed to her. "Good morning, Madam. Me, Julius, I'll be your assistant for the next few days" he said politely.
Ruby watched Julius closely then nodded.
From his appearance, Julius seemed capable and dedicated. In addition, Grissham's choice, it can't be a random person and he trusts his choice.
Noticed by Ruby, Julius lets Ruby measure it.
After all, from the beginning, he was ready to work under pressure. The goal is simple, to make money faster.
He knew that a job could not have all three qualities, a high salary, an easy job, and close to home.
That's bullshit.
That kind of work doesn't exist.
A high-paying job means one will work to death like a dog. After all, a company is not a charity. He used to have high school classmates who had high enough monthly salaries to make all their former classmates feel envious. However, it was also normal for him to work overtime several days in a row.
High salary, lots of work, no work-life balance.
Finished judging Julius, Ruby again said, "Are you a religious person?"
Julius stupefied. "Not really," he answered.
Ruby nodded small. "alright. You can go and wait for me in the car."
Julius bowed his body and resigned.
