The Ulrych celebration

Rows of chariots outside the square indicate that the festivities of Ulrych have begun. Music and dancing began in the afternoon. Various games and merchant booths have been crowded by visitors.

This celebration has lasted hundreds of years as a sign of gratitude for peace and abundant earth. It is said that the king used to often make a presence at this celebration but after an assassination attempt about five years ago, the king no longer came to Ulrych or appeared in public places.

The celebration sequence begins with a moment of silence before sunset, when everyone will stand staring at the discolored sky. Once it was dark, the three large bonfires outside the square would be lit. Torches will be carried around by young men to be placed on lighting poles around the square. The girls each carried a lighted candle that would later be placed on the edge of the fountain.

The next event is the dance. Only single men and women can dance in the circle of the fountain. Villagers believe that if a married person dances in the circle, he will have difficulty living.

That afternoon Thomas, Clarice and Clemence return from their cousin's house. They were so happy to see the crowd. The three wanted to blend in immediately but their mother had reminded them to go home first.

The house is still the same, the little boy is still there, Thomas grumbled in his heart. He'll do something to make the boy ashamed for the rest of his life, Thomas thought. He is busy making evil plans for Emune until he does not realize that Emune is passing through.

“Where is the collect? Have him lift all the belongings into the house,” Thomas begins to want to attack Emune.

“She's gone. You didn't see him go through you?” clemence Sahut.

“What?” Thomas stomped his feet. He wants to rage.

“Thank you for your own things and no one tries to disturb Emune,” their father asserted.

The three rancid children were dumbfounded. Not usually their father spoke firmly like that and if it happened then whoever broke it would have a disaster. Thomas pushed his brothers out of the house. The things they brought were so many. Mostly for their mothers. Sighing the three took turns transporting the items into the house.

Arriving at Daniela's house, Emune tells her about her father and her itinerary back to Alder. Mineda and Daniela were crying. Daniel asked him to stay.

“Live here, at my house. Mom and Dad don't mind. You must be tired of being constantly colonized by Thomas and his sisters, right? I would love to have a sister like you, Emune.” Mineda sighed sadly due to the tragic fate of Emune.

“Try to consider again. You can stay in my house too. You know that my family loves you. Grandma will be happy if you stay with us.” Daniela's sparkling eyes showed her joy if Emune wanted to stay with her.

Emune clasped his friends' hands. He knew how sick he was when his father left him first but the situation was not as easy as they thought.

“I love my host family. Although Thomas and the twins often annoy but uncle and Aunt are very good. I love you guys too. Your family has been very kind to me. I want to go back to Alder because it's the only place that belongs to my family. Please understand. I'm only their successor.”

“Do you live alone in those mountains? Can you survive without the help of others?” ask Mineda.

Daniela screeched, “Oh, I can't imagine it!”

“I'm not alone. There is a small village at the foot of the mountain. Mr. Arrand said he left the house to one of the villagers. Mr. Arrand will also help me make fields and raise like here.”

“Emune ... What if something is bad to you. There are no men to look after you there,” said Daniela full of anxious tone.

“I know some residents there. I'd like to give it a shot. I want to take care of my family's legacy.” Emune spoke with a confident tone.

Mineda wiped her tears. He was firmly convinced that Emune's determination was already unanimous. Emune is not a weak girl so she will fight hard for her ideals.

“Alright, I'll assume that you're ready for anything when you get out of here, Emune. If you change your mind, if anything happens, come back. Promise to tell us.”

“You must promise, Emune,” Daniea demands on Emune.

“Of course. We promise. Let's get dressed. The youths from other villages must have arrived,” said Mineda.

“Yes! Have fun tonight!” daniea.

“Happy tonight!” emune Sahut.

Emune and his friends arrive at the square just as the opening is about to begin. They blend in among those who have stood, ready for a moment of silence. The sound of the clam shell blowing sounded loud as a sign of the start of a moment of silence.

Everyone looked up at the setting sun. The sunburst that changed from bright yellow to finally getting darker brought a mystical atmosphere. When the sky was completely dark, the sound of a kerrang shell blowing sounded again.

Three bonfires outside the square were lit simultaneously. The crackling sound of burning wood and the wind-blown dance of fire added to everyone's enthusiasm. The young men in charge of carrying torches and candles had lined up neatly. Everyone pulled over to make way for the two groups.

Emune, Mineda and Daniela were overjoyed. This procession is worth the wait. One by one the torches were placed on its poles and the square became brightly lit. The candles are also neatly arranged on the edge of the fountain.

The young men were now face to face, preparing to open the dance. Cheerful music filled the air, accompanying them young couples dancing. Initially only the opening group, over time other young people increased in number to enter the circle.

“Will dance with me, Miss?” ask someone about Daniela.

A young man greeted Daniela. Daniela was confused to look at Emune and Mineda as if asking for their opinion. Mineda and Emune of course nodded in agreement.

“Sure,” reply Daniela. The two got closer to the circle and started to dance. Emune and Mineda looked envious as well as happy. Now both must be patient waiting for their turn.

Soon enough, a young man they knew, Oliver, took Mineda dancing. Emune is thrilled, and he pushes Mineda closer to Oliver. After the two entered the circle, Emune stayed alone. He didn't know if anyone would ask him to dance tonight but he was already more than happy when he saw his two friends dancing while smiling happily with their respective partners.

Emune retreated slowly away from the crowd and came to a halt when someone suddenly appeared before him. Thomas's! Whahuh? Don't tell me she wants to take me dancing, Emune thought. She would love to dance with any man other than Thomas.

“You think I want to take you dancing? Don't dream. Why would I dance with a pickle boy like you? Like no other girl.” Thomas twitched while tidying up his clothes.

“I also don't intend to dance with you,” said Emune ketus. He flipped his body wanting to stay away from this annoying guy but his arm was gripped by Thomas. “Release! You hurt me.”

Clarice and Clemence who saw the incident immediately approached.

“Thomas, what are you doing?” ask Clarice.

“Daddy already reminded ...” Clemence grimacing.

“Shut! Don't interfere. I'll make him regret ever coming to the Grantea.” family Thomas continues to pull Emune's hand.

“Thomas, let me go! Release or ...”

“Or what? You're gonna call your dead father to help you? Poor thing, he's dead. You were in vain waiting for him. He never cared about you!” Thomas roughly pulled Emune until their faces almost stuck.

“Thomas,” His Emune. His arm feels sore. He wanted to be free from that evil young man. How he said it like that.
