A few years ago, before Dave knew Deva. Precisely when he did a kOAS at one of the hospitals in Jogja, for the first time in his life, Dave and Hafis-one of his fellow doctors, were, spend their days at what is now called The Lost World Castle. A fortress located on the slopes of Mount Merapi.
"It's still quiet, not many know there's this place. We're going up to the top of the tower, yuk! We peek at our soul mate from there," asked Hafis who is the original Jogja.
Dave immediately agreed to Hafis' invitation. The man who is not too comfortable with the crowd, of course, happy when invited to a place that does not require him to interact with many people. Dave and Hafis climbed one step at a time to the top of the tower.
Their footsteps stopped at the last few steps. The sound of crying whistles that are so sad, plus the words of the nelangsa sayup are heard. Forcing Dave and Hafis to get their ears to work to the maximum in order to hear everything more clearly.
"Dave, don't-don't, it's the waiting voice here" whispered Hafis.
Not out of fear, considering the attraction is still new and very quiet, in addition to the arrival of those who approach the twilight. Of course, making the mind of Hafis who still hold kejawen value becomes a little absurd.
Dave put an index finger on his own lips. Hafis was immediately silent and did not intend to invite his friend to speak again.
"Why do I have to live if it's meant to be like this?" The female voice mixed with sobs, more clearly heard.
Slowly, Dave and Hafis ventured to continue their steps. To the surprise of the two men, once they found a woman sitting on the floor hugging her head with her hair ruffled over her face, one hand holding a taper knife that was somehow to be used for.
"Astaghfiruallah ..," cried Dave and Hafis compactly as he ran closer to the woman.
Dave tried to take the knife out of the woman's hand. However, the figure overreacted. He stood up and pointed the knife at Hafis and Dave.
"Don't come any closer! Get the hell out of here. Go!" The woman screamed.
Dave gestured to Hafis to refrain from advancing near the figure.
"Why are you still here? I said, go!" The woman screamed again. It seemed, she was not at all uneasy even though her face was covered by her curly hair.
"Everybody has problems, brother. Maybe we just need a friend to talk to. Who knows, we could be friends." Hafis who were indeed very good at words, began to practice his skills.
"Friends? Is that a friend? You must have approached me knowing I was rich. Behind me, you'll insult me all out." The woman spoke cynically. His voice was still stinging as a result of the crying that was done earlier might have been too long.
"Hey... How do we know you're rich? You don't even wear footwear, and the clothes you wear are ordinary. We invite you to be friends sincerely. Even if we don't know who and how you look," Hafis said.
"You guys are lying, all just sweet ahead. Even David said the same thing. Butwhat? He left me for another woman. Go ye! All hypocrites and bad." The woman's figure went back to craze. With a quick movement, he brushed his hair until his face was clearly visible. Then he slammed the knife he held on his own face. A moment of fresh blood poured out from there.
"Will you be friends with me? Do you still want to?" The woman asked with a very loud scream. His eyes were full of hatred and hatred. A gaping wound and draining blood, as if leaving no pain or pain at all in him.
"Friends don't see the look, brother. Get knife. We have problems too. We just came here to scream. Just expressing injustice. But in the least we don't want to hurt ourselves." Hafis again raised the persuasion. A moment later, the man in thick cylindrical glasses and pimped rocks was shouting loosely cursing at his life which was actually quite perfect.
The woman ignored Hafis, she looked at Dave with a different view and really made Dave uncomfortable. Slowly, he approached the man and gave his knife to Dave.
Hafis blinked both eyes at Dave while giving a small nod. "Just hug, your face is not at all scary. Your tears and hatred make you ugly yourself" said Hafis. Of course it pissed Dave off. But what power, facing someone who is severely depressed, must indeed be in a subtle and sincere way.
For the first time, Dave is hugged by a woman. At least he did not reply. All he felt was a real discomfort.
"Please promise me you won't leave me like everyone else" the woman said.
Dave just nodded his head.
"Dave .. We have arrived. Down yuk!" Dira's shrill voice followed by a slapping motion on Dave's shoulders, resuscitating the man from his long daydream.
Dave looked very surprised, the front door was already open, God and Deva were also already outside. Seeing Dave's reaction, a curiosity arises that wants to be immediately satisfied. "It seems, Bang Dave does have memories of this place," he said.
Dave went down, and his eyes looked up at the top of the tower which was actually still far away. He looked at Dira. There are so many words and questions to say. But Dave held back. He doesn't want to guess.
"How's Dave? You've been here, haven't you? Distant, huh? It used to be so quiet. We should be here by dusk, but I can't wait to remind someone of his promise." Dira stepped foot and gave an invitation with a hand gesture so that God, Deva and Dave followed him.
The tail of the God's eyes glanced at Dave. He could not guess what the man had in mind. His face was as flat as usual. After having shown a surprised reaction when awakened from the daydream, now the look of Dave's face is back flat.
Dira took them down the stairs to the top of the tower. The sun is already stinging. Several times Deva was seen rubbing her sweat. Not too long, because maybe the curiosity that was used as a passionate spirit, they arrived at the top of the tower.
"Dave, this is where our first meeting started. You were the first person to hug me when I was at the lowest point in my life. What you promised me then, I now remind you. In the days where we spent a lot of time here, you've tied yourself to me." Dira like they were having a scene. He sat on the floor, dangled his hair forward to cover his face, then hugged his own knees.
Dave pulled back his steps. "He's not you Dira. The woman I met at the time was named Lara. And she---,"
"He's not as pretty as me, is he? Of course, since the Lara you knew back then, now is your Dira-wife, Dave. The ugly Lara no longer exists. The plastic surgeon fulfilled my wish perfectly. All this for you Dave, for you. Don't you realize I'm all around you right now? Why is it so easy to ignore your promise just because of her." Dira pointed at Deva hatefully.
"No, this is not the story. If you're Lara, then you've misinterpreted" Dave argued firmly.
"Wrongly? Do I need to show you proof of the letters, gifts, and photos of the flowers you sent me Dave? I still keep it neat at home. Here you saved my life. You don't disdain to hug me when my face full of pimples is covered in blood."
God took a deep breath. Now he knows the reason behind Dira's recklessness to do face off. However, not for Deva, she was still very confused and did not understand anything until this second. A piece of the story, not enough to answer the question that was struggling in his mind.
"You said a real man wouldn't hurt any woman. You said I had to be the best, so that people would regret ever putting me down. I've done it Dave, I'm done. Now where's your promise?" insist Dira.
