"May I know why?"
"The story is long."
Valias sees Durah who looks uncomfortable. Arguing with himself whether he should tell his past or not. Things that happened to his family. It ended up in the slum of the Solossa border. Become a cloth trader. Become a fraud. The thing that had never been stuck in his head before.
It all started when his father was in a relationship with some nobles. Forming a friendship rope. His father knew that Solossa was a kingdom filled with immoral nobles. His father dreamed of changing it.
But the nobles cornered his father. Fit it. Make him a scapegoat. Until his father ended up on the gallows. His mother committed suicide and he as an only child lived alone in a slum with no one. Finding a way to survive. Starting a business with the rest of the capital he had. Make relationships and relationships alone. Decides to become a con man and hire the minors he bought from Hayden after receiving an offer from a man named Lout.
Then Valias showed up. Durah thought, if indeed Valias had some plan. Durah wants to help. He wants to destroy Solossa. Reply to those nobles. Making a revenge plan. He wanted to lead the king of Solossa, the noble Joan of Nazar, as well as the rotten nobles to the gallows. Just like what happened to his father.
If Hayden wants to destroy Solossa and make his territory a part of them, then Durah will let him. He has no concern for the people of Solossa. They're all rotten. They easily believed what the nobles said about his father. Supporting the nobles when they proposed to the king to punish his father for death.
Durah clenched his hands.
Valias saw that and started making some conjectures inside his head. Valias talk. "Miss wants to tear Solossa down?"
Durah's face lifted. Surprised by Valias' voice after drowning with his thoughts. "Y, yeah..."
It was just a pent-up desire. He has no power to do that. He doesn't care about revenge. He just wants to live. Protecting the blood of the Burk nobleman who is now only in him one to the last second. He wanted to establish a relationship with someone and pass on Burk's blood even though he was no longer a noble and was just an ordinary underling.
And she wants her partner to be Kei.
Durah looked down with eyes looking towards Kei. Both of his hands are tied. His cheeks are still embarrassed.
Kei had no idea what was really inside the woman's head. All he wants is to get rid of it or he will leave.
"We can do it."
"Yes?"
Durah made a surprised voice. Kei who was sitting next to Valias immediately turned his face to the young man who was now wearing a robe and had black hair. Alister who was driving raised his eyebrows without being seen by anyone. He put his ears on. Wanted to hear more about what Valias would say.
"Doing it, that is," Durah said without understanding.
Valias has no intention of usurping another kingdom or anything. The only goal he had was to save everyone.
But what if Frey is interested in expanding Hayden's territory?
Valias thinks they can do it. With Kei and his friends on their side.
Valias glanced at Kei. Kei realized that and immediately knitted his brows. Valias smiled slightly.
But it's not time yet.
No need to take over the government. Just take what should have been Hayden's. Hayden Children. They have to go back to their homes. They become their own royal treasure.
"We can do it. But we're not gonna do that. Not yet." Valias spoke with a smile on his face. His hand placed a scroll over both his thighs. "For now we just want to take back what should have been ours."
Valias' voice echoed in the ears of the three people who were in the wagon.
Alister who sat in front smiled.
Can do? Where does that confidence come from?
Taking a kingdom is not easy. Why could his young master be so confident?
But if it's true he can do it, I want to see how he's going to make it happen.
Alister's smile widened without anyone being able to see it.
"So, you have no intention of doing anything to Solossa?" Durah asked doubtfully. Secretly have disappointment.
"No. Our only goal is to get those kids back home" Valias replied.
Though actually keeping an eye on Solossa, spying on them.
Seeing their weaknesses and preparing what needed to be prepared if it was true Hayden wanted to expand his power.
What kind of reaction would Frey have?
Valias wondered about it.
Without Valias knowing Kei hooked his eyes on her.
They're out of the slums of the border. Arrive in a better city. Buildings from cement. Shops with their own goods.
"Master. We're going to the turn there." Durah's voice gave the direction.
Alister took their chariot to the front gate of a building. The largest building compared to other buildings. But his appearance had no luxuries at all.
Alister got off the train. Swiping a glass bulge on the gate wall. Not long after, the door of the building that was far enough away from the gate moved open. Showing the figure of a young servant. A boy with slightly long hair and tied back with a black ribbon. The boy looked nervous. But he dared himself to walk towards the gate. Dealing with Alister.
"Is there anything we can help you with?" ask the boy.
Alister gave her smile. "We want to meet your master."
"Master?" The young maid with a confused face mixed anxiously.
This is the first time someone has come to see you. Plus, the one in front of him right now was an old man in servant clothes who could already be seen of his quality level. Many times higher than the clothes he was wearing.
Besides the old servant, there was a carriage. The train he had seen when he was first taken out of the basement of the building. Brought out a gate. Then he was dragged until he reached this building. With four other children. Working in the service of a male noble who lives alone and spends time drunk. The only income he had was to open a shop in a town in Solossa. The nobleman quite often went out, and came back with money and bottles of alcohol.
Miel worked for the nobleman and only got a little food every day. They feel they are no longer humans but livestock.
"Mr Ringen is inside. But I don't think he'll accept guests." Miel.
"Let me, young master." He extended his two hands to Valias. Valias looked at the woman's face for a moment before smilingly handing the paper in his hand to the woman. Durah got up from his seat. Get off the train and hand over the parchment to the child behind the bars of the gate.
"Give this to Mr. Ringen. Look what he's gonna do."
Miel received the parchment from Durah's hand hesitantly. He looked at the rolled parchment in his hand before looking back at Durah. Saw the woman's confident face. Miel bit her lips and turned away after saying her farewell.
Valias waited on the train with Kei by his side. Valias turned his head and saw that Kei was closing his eyes at the building in front of them. Eyebrows.
Not long after that Valias felt himself hearing some commotion from the direction of the building where the child had returned. Before then a man in noble clothes who was quite luxurious but looked clumsy came out of the door. He seemed to be standing still with a face of shock in place. Look at the people at the gate. He seemed to be resuscitating himself and calling someone out. The child they had seen first came out with an expression of hope to be anxious. Both of them walked towards the gate. The nobleman called Rigen moved in a bit of a hurry.
Miel shifted the gate open. Making Valias could more clearly see Miel as well as the noble who became his temporary master.
"T-this master, coming from Hayden, what is this person-ah, king Hayden's trust doing here?" Baron Ringen spoke with a smile but was unable to hide his nervousness. His hands were rubbed against each other in front of his chest.
"We'd like to see four other children employed by you." Valias' voice rang out as he lowered himself from the carriage followed by Kei behind him. "Can I?"
Valias asked politely but the stern look of the young man with the sword and the old man with the servant clothes on the side of the person who had just spoken made Ringen know that he had no chance of resisting.
"Y, yeah. B, may, sir." He answered doubtfully. "May I know for what purpose?"
"Sir, we don't want to answer. Better you allow us to visit your residence, Mr. Ringen."
Alister gave her smile. Ringen saw that he was speechless. He gulped and clumsily shifted his body to the side. Hesitatingly said. "Please come in."
Alister noiselessly shifted the iron gate more open. Reversing the body towards Valias. "You can go in first, young master."
Valias nodded seeing Alister's head bowed. Soundlessly thrust his feet into the gate. Passing Ringen who was still standing sideways with the anxiety he had. He shuddered as soon as he saw Kei walking past. The young man gave him a sharp glint. Make Ringen know himself can't be up to some kind or something will happen to him.
Valias stopped as soon as he got to the door. Waiting for Ringen to let him in. Ringen realized that and clumsily gave Valias a welcome to enter his residence. What greeted Valias was dull furniture. There is no luxury in it. The color of the sofa fabric had worn off and there was no decoration in the large room of the building other than a painting of a woman with an umbrella covering her face.
"Please sit down, young master."
Valias sat himself on one of the sofas. Kei established himself on the side of Valias as well as Durah who stood next to Kei. Quietly holding back the feeling bubbling up inside him.
He had already met eye sight with Ringen. The baron recognized him and frowned seeing his companionship with the guest from his Hayden. But Durah ignored him. Act ignorant.
Ringen clenched his hand. Looking towards Miel. "You. Prepare the drinks."
"That's not necessary, Mr. Ringen. Our visit here won't be long." Valias' voice caught the attention of the people in the room. "There's something we want to say."
Valias' eyes tell Ringen to sit down. Ringen felt doubtful but then he realized Kei's sharp eyes. He gulped and sat himself on the sofa in front of Valias.
"I want to make an exchange."
"Exchange?" Ringen asked not understanding of the speech.
Valias raised his face. Staring at Ringen right in his eyes. "We want our Hayden kids back to their homes."
Ringen understood Valias words in his head. Hayden Children. Children who work in their homes. Children who are not given enough food and used as material for emotional outlet by him. Even though he has five working children but actually the only one who works is Miel. The four children were smaller and they were only kept in a room. Waiting for the time when someone accepted Ringen's offer to make the children their slaves.
Slaves for something Kei won't like.
Ringen squeezed his other hand. "Master, mention the exchange. What exchange do you mean?"
If one mentioned the exchange, then the first party would hand over something and the other party would hand over something else instead. The guest in front of him called out an exchange. Asking Ringen to return the Hayden children he bought. Then what would the guest in front of him offer instead?
Valias looked at Ringen who was looking at him hesitantly. Valias put on a smile. "You'll have the opportunity to open a business in Hayden."
Ringen rounded his eyes. "Business? In Hayden?"
Valias nodded.
The offer that Valias would give the Solossa nobles in exchange for the return of Hayden's children was the opportunity to open a business in Hayden. Things that shouldn't happen. Because Hayden rejected the Solossa and so did the Solossa who rejected the Hayden.
But it is different if the Solossa people get permission directly from king Hayden. And the parchment in Valias' hand shows that.
"Will you agree?"
Ringen was speechless. His head was processing the thing he had just heard.
Business in Hayden. A great opportunity. He can't miss it. A chance to gain more than he has now.
And the only thing he had to give was the return of the children he had previously bought at a value that was not comparable to the offer he had just received.
Ringen swallowed his saliva.
"S, agreed."
"All right then." Valias took out a box from under his cloak while smiling. The box he took from Vetra's drawstring pouch. "Give me your consent."
Valias put the box in his hand on the table. It opened immediately as Valias pressed a bulge there. A red cap. Ringen had to put his finger on the red box and emphasize his finger on the paper.
Ringen swallowed his saliva. Convincing himself that what was appearing in front of him was not a dream. His life will really change. He will come out of his ugly residential building. And build a new home.
He placed his hand on the box, and pressed his finger onto the paper on the table.
He saw Valias take the paper and the box from the table. Put it into a bag that Ringen knew instantly was a bag that had been given magic.
Witchcraft. Things that few people can do. The people who could use magic were people who came from the mage city. The city did not accept any entrants. In exchange the mages of the city some would choose to leave the city and employ themselves in the palace of a kingdom. Ringen Bekum has seen magic all his life. He had never set foot in the palace, and had never seen a mage with his own two eyes.
The thing that was in Valias' hands, caught his attention.
"Take us to where you keep the kids." Valias smiled giving his orders.
