The rain was still pouring down in the afternoon this afternoon. Even occasionally there is a strong wind that sweeps down the falling water. There is no lightning indeed, but the swift water and strong wind have made a little concern of its own.
Among the heavy rain that continues to flutter, a conversation sounded vaguely from one of the rooms in Pondok Hidayah.
The door that opened a little, occasionally exhaling wind that directly penetrated into the bones combined with the rancid smell of rainwater.
"It's just here first, Xa. I don't have an umbrella. If you go back to the room right now you'll just get soaked." Said one of the occupants of the room to Hexa who was seen several times looking out of the room.
"Yes, Gus. But later if you want to rest. I'm not even good." Sahut Hexa later.
"If it's a clock like this, I'm just like this. Usually there was Gus Ali accompanying me to chat. But you know for yourself, Gus Ali is coming home. So I'm glad you're here." The man said as he opened the book in his hand.
"Gus Faruq himself I saw had a few days not to go home, right?" Hexa asked her interlocutor in the room who was none other than Faruq.
"Yes, Xa. Plans for Tuesday tomorrow. But I don't know yet." Answer Faruq later.
"Oh, yes, Gus. Can I ask you something?" Ask Hexa then.
Faruq glanced at Hexa from the slit of her glasses, "Well, sure. What do you want to ask, Xa?"
Hexa hesitated a little, "On Mr. Lek Dullah, Gus."
"Sir Lek Dullah? What happened to Mr Lek Dullah?" Faruq was a little interested and curious about Hexa's question, he then closed the book he was holding.
"There's nothing, Gus. I'm just curious. Looks like Mr. Lek Dullah and Gus Aji are very close. Whether they have a family connection or something, Gus. You know as far as I know Mr. Lek Dullah here also does not teach santri, but so respected the santri. Is it because of Kang Sobri too or what, Gus?" Ask Hexa then.
"Oh, about that? Long story, Xa. Not entirely I know. But a little something I know." Answer Faruq afterwards.
"I'm just curious, Gus. Because I am still new here. Sorry if I want to know a lot. So I know how to behave." Speak Hexa then.
"Yes, right, Xa. It doesn't hurt to get to know the family here." Faruq.
"So as far as I know, Xa. Lek Dul was Kyai Salim's best friend. Kyai Salim Gus Aji's. They are both like brothers. In addition to Lek Dul there is another friend of Kyai Salim who is also close to the family ndalem. Like Mr. Prastowo, you know, who often comes here with chicken. So did Mr. Hasan Basri, his father Kang Manan. That's why Kang Manan, Kang Sobri, are both close to Gus Aji." Clearly Faruq then.
"They're friends who make meri, Xa. I admit that. How not, they are friends of the same black, when even their local repentance at the same time and remain friendly." Faruq again.
"Well, then why is Gus Aji so close to Lek Dul, Gus." Said Hexa while nodding her head understandingly.
"In addition, Xa. Lek Dul is like a father to Gus Aji. Because since Kyai Salim died. It was Lek Dul who was snacking on Gus Aji." Faruq continued his story.
"Oh, I see, Gus. It was also fitting that Kang Sobri was scientifically almost equivalent to Gus Aji." Hexa Tympanum.
"Yes, that's it, Xa. Because they grew up together since childhood. It's just that when he stepped on the teenager Gus Aji had a goiter in Rembang. So that's what makes Gus Aji more powerful than Kang Sobri." Faruq again.
"Yes, Gus. Means it's appropriate Lek Dul got more honor among others huh, Gus." Imbuh Hexa then.
"Yes, indeed, Xa. In addition, because Lek Dul is here that is set aside. Of course other than Gus Ali. It has to do with adab, Xa. Not only because Lek Dul close to the family ndalem alone." Imbuh Faruq too.
"Snouts, Gus. That's the main attitude, Gus. After often gathering with family here, yes caregivers, seniors, friends, all are very put forward attitude, Gus. I who used to not pemubris it, now learn little by little to be able to match them." Hexa seemed to mean it.
"Al Adabu Fauqal `Ilmi, Xa. Adab is higher than science. Maybe if you think logically studying adab it looks trivial and easy, but in fact studying adab is not as easy as we imagine, Xa. So do not ever underestimate the slightest thing, because what if people are knowledgeable without adab? There is a lot we can see in this day and age, starting a little civilized people, so many people who underestimate science and are arrogant with their knowledge. In fact, people who are knowledgeable are not necessarily civilized but civilized people are certainly knowledgeable. Because basically adab is an implementation of the science of religion." Clearly Faruq then.
"It's no secret about that, Xa. It all goes back to the old man, Xa. The difference in how to educate between the past and present that makes today many poor children adab. If parents first before teaching children about science, first they teach and instill about adab or morals, so that when learning science is always based on adab. But different from today. Today many people prefer to teach about science to children, while adab feels excluded so many people are smart and knowledgeable but very lacking in civilization." Clearly Faruq then.
"The present age people want to be smart is very easy. They can study anywhere and can learn at any time. In fact, you can learn on your own with self-taught. Although not recommended. But to be moral, one must get used to being humble when associating with society." Faruq.
"Nahnu ila qaliilin minal - adabi ahwaju minnaa ila katsiirin minal - ilm. We need adab more. Well, although a little compared to science though a lot." Another imbibing.
"Yes, Gus. Although I am not a person who understands civilized, moral. But a little bit I understand, Gus." Sahut Hexa's.
"Wal-adabus-ti'maalu maa yuhmadu qaulan wa fi'lan wa 'abbara ba'dhuhum 'anhu bi-annahul-akhdzu bimakaarimil-akhlaq. So in Fathul Bari explained, Al adab or adab it means applying everything that is praised by people, both in the form of words and deeds. Some scholars also define, adab is applying noble character. Well, just understanding." Clearly Faruq then.
Hexa is still hearing Faruq's teachings, maybe this is the first time she looks really like a santri who gets advice from Kyainya, he said, it was seen from how his current face seemed to pay close attention to what Faruq had told him.
"The poor are present, Xa. It also appears because it is supported by the progress of science and technological sophistication of the era that exists today so that humans only pursue academic achievement without being based on adab, which is the result of human achievement, why are many of us like that when in reality adab is not directly proportional to one's academic performance? A simple example, Xa. Many of us see in today's times the many claimants of knowledge just want to be seen as great and have high power, experts of the Quran who violate the Islamic law, and the, it happened because of the lack of knowledge about adab itself." Faruq again.
"That's right, Gus. Not a secret anymore."
"Well, this is where adab's superiority over science. Then of course it is very important for all of us to have a good adab, Xa. Because with adab we will always be in the good, because civilized people are more respected and glorified by many people. When we have empathy for others and always keep ethics well, surely others will reply well. Rather than a person who is a lot of knowledge but always underestimate others and always behave arrogantly to his will because he feels the smartest. Ajur njobo njero such a man, Xa." Faruq added again.
"As our own record, Xa. Adab is the initial formation of personality after the aqidah of a Muslim, while science is the body. As Imam abu zakariya Al Anbary said, Science without adab is like fire without firewood, adab without knowledge is like spirit without body. Therefore we as science claimants, let's start applying adab well to ourselves. Never feel enough with the knowledge we have and continue to learn science and adab, because both are important to learn not to fall into the wrong thing because of the subject of adab and science." Firmly Faruq then.
Hexa only then nodded in understanding.
"Indeed, man is far from perfect, but rest assured that if we have the intention to correct the good, God will ease the way. Therefore do not ever underestimate adab, as ibn karrath Al-isybilly once said, do not underestimate adab because of who underestimates adab, then he will underestimate the sunnah and whosoever belittles the sunnah, he will underestimate the obligatory. There is so much wisdom that we can take from the word adab and science, both contain extraordinary meaning but if not done unbalanced then collapse both." Said Faruq as he moved from his seat following Hexa who also moved from his seat.
"Thank you, Gus. I will remember this advice." Speak Hexa then.
"The essence of it all, Xa. Be a good santri akhlaknya so that the knowledge we have becomes a blessing."
"Amalein, Gus. Pangestunya. And please guide him."
Faruq simply nodded while curling his lips.
"Oh, yes, Gus. It's been a little bit off. I went back to my room first. Maybe the crap will take a break." Said Hexa after a little glance outwards which turned out the rain had subsided a little.
"Yes, I read the books, Xa. If you still want to stay here, we can talk first. But if you want to go back to the room, I'm welcome because this rain has subsided." Sahut Faruq later.
"Yes, Gus. I just want to go back to my room. You see later ba'da ashar there are still shrubs too Gus Aji." Sahut Hexa then resigned from the room.
Hexa then rushed back to her room, running around a little to avoid the remnants of rain that still occasionally fell.
Not far from him, two pairs of eyes were observing Hexa from the moment she walked out of Faruq's room until she entered his room.
"It looks like that kid has changed a lot, Jik."
"Yes, Nan. I hope so too. So it's not in vain Mr. Samsuri left it here."
