I glanced at the wall clock hanging resignedly on the wall just above the entrance. His long needle pointed at the number seven while his short needle pointed at the number ten. I still have ten minutes to decorate. Although in reality, I don't really like to decorate. I tidied up the naughty hair that was dangling out of the hair ties of my ponytail.
I pulled the lip moisturizer that was located next to my favorite baby perfume and applied it to the lips then put it back in its original position. Do not forget I spray baby perfume that smells soft on the pulse of the hand and then rub it into the neck.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror. After being satisfied and making sure it was neat enough, I got up from the chair and grabbed the bag that was on the bed. The silver watch I'm wearing shows eight o'clock exactly.
I rushed out of the room, walked over to the pantry table and picked up some drinking water. I sipped a glass of mineral water and put the glass in the sink then walked towards the shoe rack located near the door. The bell rings.
"What else is it?" I said to open the door and found him standing there. Looks handsome and neat. The matching gray tie with the cloth pants is neatly attached. I don't need to offer help tidying up the tie that hangs perfectly around his neck.
He looked at me greedily. The corners of his lips rose upwards forming a smooth arch.
"I'll give you a ride to the office" he said proudly.
"No need, I got on the bike, faster," I said reasoned. I wonder why this tall man appeared again in front of the apartment door. Maybe he was stalking.
"As a thank you for giving me breakfast" he said. He used the breakfast excuse to take me to the office. I gave him breakfast because he himself asked as a thank you for delivering my red suitcase left in his car. How many reasons are there in his head? If he continued to say such things, my efforts to keep my distance with him would be difficult even to end up in vain.
"Emm .. no need, I'm taking you to breakfast because you've brought my suitcase," I refused to read. "As a thank you," I said.
"Sure," he said still with the same smile. "Now, it's my turn to say thank you. That's why I'm gonna give you a ride to the office" he said. I sighed softly. He is a man who is difficult to negotiate with. That stone head sucks.
"No, no, I'll have a little trouble coming home" I said, trying to reason. At least what I said was true. If I let Damar drive me, it means I can't take a bike and I can't go home on a bike. You have to rent a taxi or taxi online and of course it costs money. I don't want to incur costs that shouldn't exist. I may not have to pay Damar, but online bibs are different.
"Don't worry, as long as I can't drop you off and pick you up, my new driver will do my job" she said lightly as if it was her usual thing. Whahuh? A new driver to pick me up? Was he taking the wrong medication? Maybe my artificial leaking blocks her brain work.
I rolled my eyeballs and turned my back. I pulled the doorknob and locked it.
"Do you have no job?" comments on the plan. Crazy plan that involved me. I'm still quite capable of leaving for work using my red vespa motorbike. I twisted my body and slightly raised my face to look into the eyes of the eagle. He probably didn't understand the hidden meaning behind my question because he looked at me with a pinch of eyebrows. "I don't need that stupid driver of yours," I said a little harshly. My louder voice managed to make the fine line on Damar's forehead even more noticeable. Damnit damnit! I even cursed innocent people. Oh God, forgive me my sins and the sins of the people I have just witnessed. "I'm sorry ...," I said.
Damar did not comment. He just looked at me in silence. The look that made my heart beat. I heard his powerful rhythm in my ears. I don't know when my heart was jumping for joy.
'Calm down a little bit, the tombal guy seems to be scattered a lot and you are now looking at him with your own eyes.' A voice in my head reminded me. Yeah, well-assed guys seem to be spread almost equally across the hemisphere. A familiar guy who wants something.
"Don't worry, I can arrange it" he said ignoring my protest. He may be too deaf to hear the curse that just came out of my mouth.
"Look, I don't need a driver. I can go alone. Strike you don't work?"
"Break it?" There was a humorous tone in his voice. "You're thinking too hard, Ning," he added. There was an emphasis as he said the word 'Ning'. The word that means sister in Javanese makes me annoyed. I don't like it when someone calls me that name. Why don't they call my name 'Bening'? Is that too hard?
"Don't call me, 'Ning', I'm not your Ning" I said a little sewot.
"Your name's 'clear', isn't it?"
"Yes, Bening, no, Ning," I said placing emphasis on the words 'Bening' and 'Ning'. "Ning it's a call for a Javanese older sister" I explained.
"Well, Clear Light Mentari, what do you want me to call you?" he said with a saved smile. I glared at him. He does not have to mention my full name like a lecturer who served his students before the lesson began.
"OK, Bening, if you still want to argue, you can continue later. Now," he said as he glanced at the silver watch attached to his left arm. Super fancy metallic watch. "We have to leave, you don't want to be late, do you?"
I rolled my eyeballs. Too late! Of course it's his fault. If only he had not appeared again at the door of my apartment, I would have left a few minutes ago. Now even complaining too late. Unbelievable.
Our debate has taken me nowhere but to be upset. Upset because this handsome guy is being nice as if I need his good attitude. Attention is like we have a special bond. Perhaps he still had a scheming plan neatly stored under his armpits. If so, I should reject it firmly. I don't want to be his shield anymore. I don't want to be involved in that imaginative romance drama. I have my own imagination about my love life.
I went ahead without answering the question. Unimportant questions that don't need answers.
Damar followed my steps, thanks to his long steps he managed to keep my steps. He stepped firmly beside me towards the elevator located at the end of the seventh floor hallway.
Elevator opens after ding sound. Some apartment dwellers I didn't know were in the elevator. I stepped in followed by Damar. After pressing the ground floor button the elevator door closed. The two young women standing behind me whispered softly. Admiring the good looks of the man standing tall beside me.
"There's no way they're lovers." Whisper one of them. I also want to shout back to them that I am not Damar's lover as they hoped. But I chose silence and let them imagine wildly. I glanced at Damar who was completely unaffected by the whispers of such neighbors.
Ding!
The elevator opens up afterwards. My heart was pounding again when Damar grabbed my wrist and pulled me out of the elevator. I was too shocked to protest and let the man wearing the white shirt lead me to the basement, the parking lot of the apartment's motorized residents.
"Come in" Damar ordered to open the door of his car. His hand was gone. I stared at the beautiful man, revealing his charismatic smile. A smile made me smile because there was a lot of magnetic field in that smile.
"But .... "
"Nothing but, I'll ask the driver to pick you up later," he said before running around his car.
It seems that I can't resist Damar's wishes this time. Just this once, I want to enjoy what it's like to have a personal driver ready at all times. Make no mistake, I just enjoy what Damar has to offer as long as it is innocent and harms others.
