Pinnacle POV
I don't like coming home from work at rush hour like this. But since when has Jakarta not been busy? The morning starts at seven to ten when most residents of Jakarta migrate from their residence to the office. Then at noon at twelve to two at lunch and in the afternoon when the workers go home, at four to eight in the evening. Not to mention those who want to enjoy the night life. I guess the road is never empty.
Jakarta is always crowded. Maybe it will be quiet during the Eid holiday Eid al-Fitr. Because the residents of Jakarta are mostly residents. Like me who is far away from the village in Lumajang district. Actually if I could choose I would choose to live in the village. Why, of course because the air is clean and cool. Nutritious vegetables and an atmosphere far from the noise of motor vehicles.
It's just, I can't stand it. In my village there are no phone lines, no PDAM. Even after I lived for ten years. It's still the same as I used to live. The community is also still stale. And obviously I can't get the money there. I didn't find a job that suited me. Obviously I can't make a career there. Except farming. Turn to farm vegetables and crops, fields of rice fields I don't have. Imak's small rice paddies are only planted with rice throughout the season, sometimes yam. But mostly rice. Mother said to be delicious, no need to buy rice.
I agree, considering that planting rice is much easier than caring for vegetables. And the cost is much greater. Not to mention when the price of vegetables fell. Could not do. Failed to make money.
And here I am. Wandering the capital to pursue ideals. Maybe one day I can make my mom happy.
I pulled the handbrake and turned left towards the cafe. A cafe around Kemang area. Actually the direction is opposite to the direction where I live. But I'm not happy to refuse Jihan after unilaterally cancelling lunch last afternoon. I was too busy to go out for lunch.
I parked my bike and walked to the cafe. I researched every corner of the cafe looking for Jihan's figure. Before long, I found Jihan waving her hand from a distance. He likes to sit at the end of the room. His habits haven't changed.
"Hi, it's been a while?" I said when I got to the table.
"A little bit" he said. "What message do you want?" He said he raised his hand again.
I sat next to him. "Just like you" I said flatly.
"You are still the same as before" he said. "Even the way you dress has not changed" he added.
"Boots things you mean?" My toot. He nodded then smiled. I'm smiling too. "Did you come all the way here just for that?"
"Patience" he said softly. "What about your job?"
"Still freelancers... I'm joining eo now, his hefty fee. If I get a big project I also get a big honor. But yes, not all projects are big. So that's how it is..."
"Will not change jobs?"
"I want to, but what? Whereabouts? You know there are a lot of smart people looking for a job. And out of all those smart people, lucky people can beat him" I said weakly. All this time, I haven't been lucky enough to get a good job. Both in terms of career and salary. I was lucky in time. I have a lot of time to go here and there because my job is like that. Not bound by place and time. There are times when working hours start at twelve noon until nine at night. Sometimes it's morning. Not necessarily.
"Finally right" he said excitedly. "There are RnD vacancies in perfumed oil companies. I can recommend you".
"You're sure I was accepted without an interview?" godaku's. I'm not sure I can get through the interview again. Wh why? I'm tired of interviews. If only the interview could be skipped.
"Easy" he said lightly as if eliminating the interview is like removing the word itself. "How are you interested?"
"It looks like 'too good to be true' that, especially for me..."
"Don't I know you really want to work in RnD with a lot of crazy ideas in your head"
"Crazy, yeah, I'm crazy" I said and we laughed together.
"So how? You interested?"
"Let me think about it first" I said at last.
"All right, I'll give you until tomorrow morning!"
"Huh ...! tomorrow morning? Very cruel to my own friends," I protested. I know a good opportunity like this doesn't come twice. "Working, where?"
"If not wrong, the location is in Priok. North Jakarta"
"Alright, not too far from where I live,"
"Oh yeah, where's my rent?" Said suddenly. I can only grin.
"I'm not paying, maybe next week," I said, informing him of my financial problems. Financially I'm actually broke. If it wasn't for the kindness of Jihan renting out her apartment to me, I would have been a bum. Yeah, tramp's the worst possibility.
"You need to find a girlfriend!" His comments. I looked at him with an astonished look. What does boyfriend and apartment rent have to do? I did not find a simple relationship between the two.
"What connection?" tanyaku plain.
"Many, if you have a girlfriend she'll help you financially!" he insisted firmly. I laughed softly.
"Daughter? Or a dairy cow?" my comment. If it was just to find a running ATM machine, I obviously wouldn't want to do it considering that there's nothing free in the world. 'Jer basuki mawa beya'. If you want to live well, you have to pay a fee in a broad sense. It doesn't just have to be material.
"Pair to complement each other more precisely" the correction. He put on his best smile.
"Forget that topic" I argued. I don't want to talk about it.
"If you don't have a candidate yet, I have a candidate for you!"
"Here it is, forget it I am not dancing".
"But I'm sure, you guys are a good fit. He, the criteria you want, is on him all" Jihan explained convincingly. I shook my head slowly. Jihan is so excited about talking about her fantastic cousin she thinks.
"Mrs. Perfect, huh?" I said then laugh. Then we laughed together. "There is no Mr. Perfect Jihan! Besides, my view of marriage is different from my previous version".
"really? What's different?" Urge Jihan. He looked at me with the eyes of a child who asked for more explanation. I don't know what to answer myself.
"Of course .., I'm just afraid of being disappointed."
"Hey, don't say that, you'll never know the answer if you don't dare to step."
"You're right, I think I'm too scared,"
"It's okay it's natural, it's because you haven't met someone who makes you want to be with her always."
"Like lice and hair" I said. Jihan.
"I think you're watching too much drama" I criticize and of course Jihan doesn't.
"Better than your anime, what's its name? Naruto's? uh, right, yeah, Naruto?"
"Not, but Boruto Naruto's son?"
"Seriously? is there a sequel?" ask with a serious face. I laugh.
"I've seen it, but I don't like it very much. So Naruto married Sakura?" I thought that when I was in junior high school, Naruto would marry Sakura but it was wrong. Hinata's sincerity of love eventually led her to unite with Naruto. Hinata loves Naruto very much.
"No, but with Hinata?" I said excited. Hinata very faithfully loved Naruto from the first episode to the end. I mean he's decided from the start who he'll stand next to. While me? Wh who? I don't even have a reference. Depressing.
Now I'm daydreaming about who my partner will be. Thank you to Jihan for reminding me of this sacred topic. I have to treat it as a thank you.
"Hinata's? Hinata, which one?" He said he was unaware of my raging thoughts.
"How about watching it together next time?" bargained. I hope that Jihan will be with me someday. Maybe with his son when he was born.
"Ah no! The episode is too long." Then we laughed together.
No one can stand watching it except me and Naruto. I would be so happy to do it even if no one paid me.
"Then ..," he hung as if looking for the right words. "Aren't you ..., I mean, are you going to keep going like this?"
"Until I find my true love ...," cut me. Jihan laughed softly. "What?" My protest with the gaze that was given to me.
"I mean the veil" she said. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to criticize you, I just reminded you as a fellow Muslim brother" he said sincerely. I know Jihan is sincere with her words and has no intention of judging.
"I'm not ready!" my pretext. I used the same excuse. At the moment I feel I don't deserve to wear it, my heart says I'm not ready. I'm still afraid I can't commit to remembering I used to wear it in high school. At least, the rules in schools that require female students to wear a veil.
Jihan smiled.
"Look, I wear a veil instead of waiting ready or waiting to be good, but stepping up for the better. How old are you anyway? The veil is worn during puberty, not the other way around, when it feels good,"Well I often hear this one saying of Jihan.
And all this time I've only made it an excuse. I already know about all that. I might just need some time. Time, I don't know when.
I tried to convince myself.
I'm honestly embarrassed. Shame on myself. Shame on Jihan. It's just that my stubbornness is much bigger than my current embarrassment. And that's why I haven't worn a veil. Maybe later, if I'm sincere.
"Don't daydream, I didn't mean to hunt you..." Said again. I just smiled at him.
"Yes, I know" I said. "I ..," My words were cut off by the ringing of my own cell phone. I reached into it and saw an unfamiliar number on the screen. I ignored it and put it on the table until it didn't ring.
"Who?" Jihan leaned over her body to peek at her dead phone.
"Unknown number" I replied cynically. I stirred my drink and drank it through a straw until it was half gone.
"Don't, mate!" exclaim Jihan. His face glittered with a happy light. Damnit. Why is he even happy when there is a foreign number calling me, it could be a con artist as long as it has been. I'm sick. I rolled my eyeballs in response to his comment.
"Stupid from London!" I said in a rather loud voice. Jihan laughs. I don't like the topic that Jihan presents. The match is set when it comes and who.
"shong kong!" The correction. "Maybe, yes," Jihan was excited. "Oh yeah, in three weeks, I have a seven-monthly event, you have to come with a partner," Jihan stroked her bulging belly.
"Huh ...! A couple!" I rolled my eyeballs. I bent my face before answering. "Just relax, I have a lot of friends!" I won't be trapped by Jihan's words. And once again my phone rings. The same number. And again I ignored it.
"Who?" I just shrugged my shoulders to answer my question. "Well.I smell a soul mate," teased Jihan. He smiled mysteriously.
"Since when have you been able to predict?" I ignored the previous question. If I can be honest, I don't have a partner to invite. I don't even have a picture of what kind of partner I want. Finding good people and caring for me and my parents was enough as a standard. Then, about the face, of course, which unhappy woman has a handsome and beautiful partner but I might choose a soothing look. Is my desire too excessive? I just want to be happy and grow old together.
"Since today!" then Jihan laughed loudly. I stopped my short daydream and laughed with him.
For the umpteenth time my phone rings. Same number and I don't know him. I sighed softly. What does she want? I mean, maybe he wants to collect a debt or something? As I recall I had no debt except for Jihan who was sitting right in front of me, looking at me with a suspicious look. I sighed softly before turning off my phone and keeping it in my bag.
"So, male or female?" ask me about the fetus it contains. Jihan looked at me with a confused face. I gestured by rounding my lips and glancing at his stomach.
"Oh .., I don't know," she replied as she gently stroked her stomach. "Baby boy or girl, he is still a gift from God," he said wisely. "but you have to come, I will introduce you to my handsome and good cousin" he added. I smiled my best smile for her and prayed that her cousin would not attend. So, we don't have to meet.
"Don't worry, I'll definitely come to your special occasion" I said convincingly.
"Should! You won't regret it, much less ...,"
"Don't, we should go home! It's getting darker outside. Your husband must be worried." I said quickly cutting his sentence. I don't want to go back to the topic of soul mate. After all, my soul mate is set, maybe my soul mate out there is still stray or not yet able to signal.
"Yes, I forgot to tell Fadlan," he said, reaching into something in his red bag. "Wait on! I'll call him,"
