Damar: Love Is On The Way

Damar: Love Is On The Way
Prospective Ghosts

Damar POVs

I don't understand why everyone, especially my mom, is urging me to get married. Didn't he already have the granddaughter of his first son-in-law. Not that I don't want to get married but now is not the right time. Maybe later if I find someone right. That clicked with my heart. Someone who managed to make me want to always look at him in the morning when I wake up. A tough woman who was ready to stand beside me through the day in the rest of my age. Ready to age together.

I pushed down the unlocked front door. Some table lamps are turned on while the chandelier that has a crystal decoration dies. No sign of its inhabitants.

The living room was quiet when I came home but not with the dining room. The sound of the twang of a spoon dancing on a plate sounded melodious. Apparently dinner has already started. I purposely worked overtime to avoid this kind of family event. I'm lazy to listen and answer the same questions. Especially my sister-in-law who is no less chatty with mama. Or perhaps, it was the nature of women who were always blabbering. There are always hot topics to talk about. Especially my love life.

"Wash again?" lani said Indra's wife, my sister, saw me in the dining room. I stopped my steps and turned towards the source of the sound. The rectangular dining table was fully filled, only one seat beside my mother. All the family members gathered together, Papa and Mama and Indra and their small family. Only their little babies did not come.

"That's how ...," I answered flatly. I was about to step up and twist my body when my mother made a sound.

"Sit down, let's eat!" said gently. He pulled an empty chair beside him. The chair that was always my seat when eating together. A gesture for me to sit down and join them for dinner.

"I'll take a shower first and change clothes" I refused subtly. I turned my body and then stepped out of the dining room towards my room which was on the second floor without waiting for a response from my mother. After spending nearly twenty minutes, I left my room, walking slowly down the stairs towards the dining room. The dining room was already quiet, only the Mbok left to clean up the leftovers when I stopped my steps and peeked at the dining table. The warm voice of the mother who was chatting with her grandson Rafa, was heard filling the room. I walked slowly and found my mother and other family members gathered there. The flat television set was located on a long table attached to a lighted wall but no one really enjoyed the show being presented. Indra and his wife, Lani, are complete with their two children, Rafa and Ghani, who are still babies. Rafa sits between mom and dad. They chatted.

Lani is busy cradling her baby and Indra is sitting next to her. Trying to grab the attention of her busy baby boy staring greedily at his mother. Sometimes the lips of Indra form a curved line like a crescent moon. Both of his eyes radiated the love of a father. He seemed very happy and enjoyed his role as a father.

On the other hand, Mama is busy playing with Rafa. Flipping through picture story books full of cheerful colors. Rafa seemed excited about researching every corner of the book.

"have you eaten?" Mama turned her eyes to me. I nodded slowly.

"you've got a girlfriend yet?" Lani, Indra's wife asked without looking over. Indra raised her face and glanced at me. Highlight his eyes as if to say immediately look for a potential ghost for mama.

"yes, right! When did you bring the prospective mama?" My mom commented.

"Ma ... "

"Damar, how old are you now? When are you getting married? If you don't have a candidate, mama has a candidate for you." Said mama glancing at me once again who was still standing. I haven't even sat down and mom has asked me when I got married? Be married? Where can I get a bride in a moment.

Isn't getting married sooner or later? Marriage is not a race. Getting married takes a strong commitment to living life after marriage and being able to fight and survive the approaching storm. I'm not sure if I'm ready or not. The main problem is I haven't found a woman that makes me want to fight with her.

Marriage is not just for a day but for a lifetime. You must choose a partner who has the same goal if you cannot disperse in the middle of the road. I don't want a marriage like that. Just for fun, as a show off material let alone a race because of the age benchmark.

I brushed aside all sorts of thoughts that started to disturb my mind and walked over to my mother.

Actually, as long as I accept my mother's offer of her proposal regarding her chosen daughter-in-law. I can get married in no time, maybe tomorrow morning, if possible.

"Ma ..," I said flatly and sat down on a different sofa next to my mom.

"I also have the right candidate for Damar ma" Lani, my sister-in-law added with passion. Eyes glittering. She was even more excited than my own mother.

"Really.great". Mama seemed to welcome with wide hands Lani's help. I wonder what kind of woman Lani chose. Never mind, it's none of my business either. I don't want to know what they look like because I'm going to reject them eventually.

"No need to bother Damar already had his own choice". I lied so they stopped matching me. I am still quite capable of choosing my own candidate. It's just, I haven't found the right one yet, click diati. And I'm still looking for him.

"really?" Ask mom seriously. All eyes were on me just like my mom looked straight at me. Papa who just joined us also looked at me. I can't see the look in his eyes. Maybe he knows I'm lying. I swallowed with force.

"Then bring him home. Mama wants to know him?" Mama sumringah. His face looks brighter than at dinner. Papa also looked at me, his eyes seemed to say do not let you lie to your mother. I swallowed the forced saliva.

Mom looked at me asking for approval. I guess only the two of them understood what that eye gaze meant. Without a sound papa sat to the right of mama. Papa leaned his shoulders on the back of the sofa and his left hand hugged the back of the mother who was leaning on the sofa.

"Mama sure? Last time you said that...." Without me realizing that sentence just came out. I regret to say it after seeing my mother's grim face. I glanced at the papa sitting next to my mom, shaking her head slowly. His eyes clearly showed disappointment.

"The room!" This time it was my father who spoke before I finished my sentence. I sighed softly knowing the error in choosing a sentence.

I didn't mean to hurt Mom. I just don't want you to interfere in my personal life, especially women's affairs. Instead of my love story.

"All right" I raised both my hands. I guess I'm still upset about that. I don't even want to remember. Too painful.

I stood up from the couch and left them all behind. Papa gave support to mama by pulling her shoulder tightly into her arms. I can't believe, even after years of marriage they still seem to fall in love. I can see it, Papa's loving gaze.

Can I be like them?

I don't feel as lucky as the two of them. But still, I refused to be betrothed.

I don't even know why I lied. And now I have to prepare another lie to cover up my lie because of my stupidity. I need to find a way to convince my mom. I have my own choice, even though I haven't found it yet. At least I have to say that I have close friends, especially women. A close friend who will help me avoid whatever your mother's plans about my love life are.

I think I need her help.

I landed rough on the bed. I stared at the ceiling of my room with no interest. I got up and sat down and glanced at my phone lying on a small table next to the couch.

After unlocking the screen, I swiped the screen to look for the girl's contact. The only person who can help me is him. And he has to help me.

After finding the contact, I pressed the call button. It takes a while before the channel is connected. I waited a few seconds before connecting, but there was no answer.

I tried it again, same, no answer. I tried for the third time, still no answer. Maybe he was busy or... I try to think positively. There are many reasons why the girl didn't answer the phone. I tried calling him again and again. Still no answer.

I surrendered.

I took a long breath. Maybe I should find someone else. He looks very young anyway. What would her parents think if she brought her home and introduced her as a close friend. Mama would obviously disagree.  I don't know what you might think if you knew I was approaching a schoolboy, I mean she looked like a 4th or 6th semester student.

I'm sure he's no older than 21. But, if I could convince mom and dad that love has nothing to do with age, maybe they would understand.

Wait..what I just said is the word love. The most impossible thing or at least the least possible time I found love.

I don't even know what it looks like. All I know is that we need each other. Is it called love?

I'm back lying down. Look at the ceiling for the umpteenth time. Then I raised my left hand which was holding the phone.

Alright. At least I should try it first. There's no other choice right now.

I tried to call her again after waiting for a while, longer than before, with the remnants of my hope. But there is no answer, rather not connected because the phone is not active. Is he a fraud? My inner. I started to get upset after trying to call her for a long time. Just watch. I finally decided to send a short message.

You forgot to hit my car. And now ignore my calls.

I sent it and waited for a reply. One minute. Two minutes, three minutes, five minutes and ten minutes. There's still no answer. Maybe he was about to escape. But I have the ktp. Is useless. I'll definitely find him

I searched my wallet and pulled out his ID card which I had tucked inside.

The Clear Light of the Mentari

I can't believe it.

I'm back to keep an eye on her place and date of birth. I glared to find his birth year. So he's not the snot teenager I thought he was. But appearance....

I looked back at his name.

Clear....

The Clear Light of the Mentari

I used his name a few times. I found myself liking that name.

His parents really named him kinky. Well the name doesn't matter. I need the address.

Not likely. He is not a native Jakarta. So I'm gonna have trouble finding him. He is a javanese. East Java I don't know where the place or the address of the house is.

It doesn't matter if I have his phone number. At least I can still call him in the morning. I can't lose hope. She's the only woman who can help me. Hard feeling no. And I only need her help once. After that, my mom won't bother me. And I won't bother him anymore either.
