The police officer named Abram, who handles Gabriel's case in the village, gets proof of Edward's crime given directly by Gabriel, who is, not only evidence of crimes against Gabriel's family but also evidence of other crimes, namely smuggling weapons and explosives on fish shipments to the village and also kidnapping Angeline's father.

And right now, Gabriel is at the police station to hand over the evidence in his possession.
