Yudi has been at Kifune Shinto Shrine for more than two months. Entering the month of December, snowflakes have begun to fall coloring the precarious and the temple grounds, becoming sparkling white. Only this time Yudi felt life in winter. Although in Kyoto the temperature is not so extreme, but for Yudi who is native to the tropics, feel the air temperature below ten degrees Celsius, of course it is very cold. Therefore, Yudi every day wore a jacket to cover his body.
Usually, in winter, the activities of residents outside the house begin to decrease. Including the residents who went to pray to the temple, also not too much. In the state of the temple is not crowded like this, the elder or the priest leader held a meeting. There are two types of meetings held at the Shinto Kifune Shrine, namely internal meetings attended by priests, kannushi, miko and other priestly aides. Of course in the internal meeting that was discussed was the problem that existed in the Shinto Kifune Temple.
While the second meeting, is a meeting of priests from Shinto temples that became the built-in area of the Shinto Kifune Temple. There are many priests from various temples in the Kyoto area who are the builders of the Shinto Kifune Temple.
At internal meetings, priests, kannushi, miko as well as other clergy attendants gathered in a large hall. Of course, the Reverend who was the leader of the Shinto Kifune Temple, who presided over the meeting. The meeting started early in the morning, after the people finished their morning meal. Everyone present in the room, there were about twenty-five people, sitting cross-legged on the floor of the hall. Although in the hall room there are many people, but the atmosphere remains quiet. Not boisterous as people generally gather. There's no sound.
Then came the chief elder of the priests, whose age was told to be almost a hundred years old. The elder of the priest immediately sat on the altar, a place higher than the seats of the people surrounding him, forming a half circle. The seat is also cross-legged, not wearing a luxurious soft chair with a high price, but instead the seat comes from natural stone shaped range is quite thick.
After the priest sat down, he briefly observed the person present in the room. Then waved the sign calling Kannushi Negeri. Slowly whisper the words to the kannushi. Just a moment and slowly.
The whispered kannushi came straight out. Apparently the priest elder understood, if there was still less than one person present in the room. So the kannushi, who was whispered by the priest elders, immediately went to find the person asked by the priest leader, Yudi.
Well, Yudi did not come to gather with the priests or other workers in the temple. Because Yudi felt that he was not part of the managers and temple workers. Yudi in the temple was only as a hidden guest. That is why he did not dare to gather in a meeting that was not his business. It is better to clean the park located in the waterfall.
Kannushi Negeri immediately met Yudi who was cleaning around the waterfall. Yes, even though it has entered winter, the holy water that continues to radiate is never frozen. Even as if the water source is actually emitting warmth. That is why Yudi enjoys cleaning the place.
"Jude ...! You are asked to gather in the hall, by the Elder ..." said Kannushi Negeri Negeri who immediately invited Yudi to the meeting hall.
"I don't have clothes like you." replied Yudi, who certainly felt not part of the temple workers.
"This is what the Elder asked for. Don't refuse. Hurry up." said Kannushi Negeri who immediately turned to return to the meeting place.
Yudi did not argue. He immediately flicked his clothes with his fingers, so that the dirt that stuck is gone and let it look neat. Next, step following the Kannushi Negeri, towards the meeting room.
And now, when there will be an important meeting, Yudi was invited by the priest elder. This is not a small thing, but a great honor. It was not a random person who could meet the Elder. Yudi who has been in the temple for more than two months, just this time will meet the Elder, to hear his advice.
Remain as before, the meeting hall room even though it was filled with people, remained quiet. No one talks or talks. Let alone at the important event to hear the advice of the Elder, on an ordinary day, while working with priests and other workers, rarely speak. Only talk if necessary and important. In fact, in the kitchen that contains the miko, the women who cook, they never talk much.
Yudi sat close to the neighboring Kannushi. Of course because it is more familiar and at least if there is a language that has not been understood by Yudi when receiving the advice later, he can ask the Kannushi Negeri. Although there was a new Yudi coming in that place, no one observed Yudi. It is also taught in the lives of pastors, so as not to be swayed by any view. Even the Elder Priestess, did not turn to Yudi either. Even glancing at it is not.
Yudi immediately looked at the Elder Priest who became the center of view of everyone in the hall. Only this time Yudi can see and observe directly the person he had hoped to meet and meet face to face. There is a lot of hope that arises from Yudi. Especially the fate of him and his wife.
Yes, of course Yudi already misses to go home. I miss my hometown, I miss my parents. Especially must miss Bagas who is always the target of his emotions.
The pastor's elder immediately gave his advice. Yudi listened carefully. There are certainly a lot of words to look at. At least understand the meaning conveyed by the Priest Elders. The advice of the Pastor Elders that was delivered, is about the Sufi way of life. A Sufi is a person who sets himself to stay away from worldly things. By doing the Sufi way of life, one does not go overboard in thinking about the worldly life and remains focused on faith and piety. Sufi life means that someone in his life still maintains simplicity and abstains from worldly luxuries and pleasures. Yudi began to feel the understanding in the teachings given by the Great Priest that are in accordance with his philosophy. It is a life that is not concerned with worldly things.
If a person can abandon worldly pleasures or joys, such as staying away from life, avoiding good food without restrictions, not indulging in lust, foya-foya, of course, the person is said to have been able to control himself to live a simple life. Similarly, when someone wants to share his property for the benefit of the welfare of the people in need, then he can leave the bond of property that often shackles the human mind. Similarly, when a person can share knowledge with others in order to provide knowledge so that others become smarter and wiser, then he has shared the good.
Yudi strongly agreed with the Sufi way of life taught by the Reverend. Of course with all the limitations of Yudi's ability. After all in Javanese teachings, there are examples that must be done by someone to maintain the integrity and tranquility of life. For example, narima ing pandum, which means receiving with gratitude whatever has been given by God the Most Giver. Likewise with a life that is lila and relieved, sincere in everything.
In the life of Javanese people, especially in the area where Yudi lives, full of members lan wewaler, namely rules and prohibitions in the order of life, is, the main purpose is nothing but to regulate the behavior of individuals and communities in order to obtain peace and security of world life and the hereafter.
Yudi understands that very well. Yudi has been trying to do the order of life in accordance with the members lan wewaler prevailing in his society. Of course the essence of the teachings conveyed by the Great Priest about Sufi life is acceptable. Now, how to practice this teaching in earnest. Because the hardest thing is to do his teachings, not hear his advice.
For Yudi, of course this Sufi life is still very heavy. Still too high to reach. Moreover, when he came to the temple, it was actually asking for help, that is, hoping to find and save Yuna, his wife. But in reality, now it is Yudi who must be saved from danger.
Of course with the teachings delivered by the Great Priest, Yudi again pondered, wanting to understand the true meaning of life. Can he be a Sufi?
