“As still in the educational phase of Shaykhona in Mecca, Adab Luhur who became his principle there is, he never threw away the deed in the Holy land of Mecca. In honor of Kanjeng Nabi's hometown, Shaykhona willingly walked as far as 6 km out of the boundary of the holy land to throw hajat.”

In the past when I was a child and had not entered the pesantren, I can say “awam” knowledge about the figure of Shaykhona Kholil bin Abdul Lathfi Bangkalan. What I know from the Santri, he who I pilgrimage his tomb with thousands of Santri Bangkalan on every Friday’at it is one of my “Bujhuk” (buyut).
I just started to know the majesty of the name of a Shaykhona when mondok in PP. Darul Falah Amtsilati Jepara. At that time one of the friends showed a biography of Shaykhona Kholil entitled: Letter to the Black Dog. Starting from there, I began to know a little about the figure of Shaykhona, about how he had made Bangkalan as the center of science civilization in his day, also about how he with “didikan goldnya” managed to print thousands of scholars scattered throughout the archipelago.
The story of the greatness of Shaykhona is even still “talki” me when I reached Tarim Hadhramaut. At the beginning of my studies there, one of the seniors said that it turns out that Shaykhona Kholil has a very close relationship with Habib Ali Bin Muhammad Al-Habsy Shohibul Maulid.
Shaykhona even mentioned having met Habib Ali, somehow he got to Seiwun at that time. It is said that one day Habib Ali told his students that soon a great scholar would come, before long Shaykhona came. Habib Ali welcomed him and the two were seen chatting familiarly, and uniquely at the meeting Habib Ali chatted with Syaikhona using Madura.. !!
“Sae Non ? Kakdimmah Salakkah ?..” ¹ asked Habib Ali to Shaykhona at that time.
Shaykhona and Habib Ali indeed lived in the same period, they both had also studied to the same teacher, Sheikh Ahmad Zaini Dahlan Mufti Syafi’iyah in Mecca at that time.
Later I also just learned that the great scholars of the caliber of Sayyid Muhammad Al-Maliki, Shaykh Ali Gomaa, Habib Salim Assyathiri, Habib Umar bin Hafidz etc have a scientific sanad that boils down to Shaykhona Kholil. That's because they took the sanad of science from Sheikh Yasin Al-Fadani, while Sheikh Yasin in various fan take sanad from Kh. Ma’sum Lasem and Kh. Tubagus Bakri Banten, both of which equally studied and took sanad from Shaykhona Kholil Bangkalan.
So it is not excessive if it is said that Shaykhona can not only be referred to as “Syaikhu Syuyukhi Jawa” or Maha guru of the Javanese scholars, Syaikhona is also worthy of being called the Maha guru of the world scholars.

During this time many who view Shaykhona as the guardian figure of thousands of owners ***karomah**,² whose behavior is often unreasonable people\-ordinary people. Shaykhona is also known as one of the founding Inspirators of NU, a true “murobbi” whose students\-disciples succeeded in becoming a great\-ulama scholars who spread Islam throughout the archipelago. Here I will not discuss about the thousands of karomahs and wonders that Shaykhona has, other than because there are already many who tell it, I think too much about the karomah chapter will only make us assume that Shaykhona is a figure that cannot be reached and used as a role model. After all, even though our main goal to examine the history of a scholar is to regulate the act of\-lampahnya. I will only show one “kunci”, with which Shaykhona can reach and reach all the glory that continues to flow until this second, he said, where with “kunci” that Until now the name of Syaikhona Kholil is still very respected, thousands of pilgrims also crowded “*carean**”³ Syaikhona every day.
“**Lock” glory it is Adab**. Adab Noble Nan lofty is the most outstanding thing from the life history of a Shaykhona. Starting from the time\-time he demanded knowledge. When the nyantri in Pasuruan, Every entered the pesantren area Sidogiri \(after walking for 7 km from Kebon Candi every day\) he always removed his sandals as a form of ta’zim against his Masyayikhs.
When Mondok in Genteng Banyuwangi, Shaykhona served the guru **KH. Abdhul Bashir*.he filled the bath, washed the clothes, washed the dishes and cooked for Sang kiai. He also worked as a coconut picker with a wage of 3 cents per 80 trees, and more amazingly, Shaykhona did not use a penny\ from the results of his efforts, at all, all the money he gave to his teacher, for his daily meal\-day Shaykhona preferred to pick up leftovers.
**العَبْدُ وَ مَا مَلَكَ مِلْكٌ لِسَيِّدِهِ**
“*hazard servant and everything he has belongs to his master*”
Perhaps this one shufi kalam can represent the principle of a Shaykhona, “saking” high\nya adab and tadzim him against his teacher, to\-until he considers himself a servant of the light who is not who\who and who have nothing in front of the Master.
When Shaykhona studied in Mecca. When studying at the **Shaykh Muhammad Arrahbini** who is a blind man, every night Shaykhona deliberately sleeps at the door of Musholla The guru, in the hope that he will step on it when entering the door of the musholla, shaykhona awoke and led his teacher to the priesthood.
In Makkah, the famous Sheikhona has beautiful writing often write “*book Alfiah*”⁴ with his own hands then sell it at a price of 200 Ryal per\-book. As when the cottage in Banyuwangi, Again\-again the results of his labor he dedicated to his teachers, while for his daily food\-day, Shaykhona prefers to pick up and eat the skin\-skin watermelon.
Still in the educational phase of Shaykhona in Mecca, Adab Luhur who became his principle there is, he never dispose of the law in the Holy land of Mecca. In honor of Kanjeng Nabi's hometown, Shaykhona willingly walked as far as 6 km outside the boundaries of the holy land to throw away the hajat.
It is not enough to get there, when it has become a respected big kiai where\-where. At that time he had climbed a dock, in the middle of the journey he asked the coachman:
“good horse sir.. Where are ?”
“From Bima Kiai...” replied the coachman.
Hearing that name he remembered a teacher in Makkah who came from Bima. He remembered that his teacher had hundreds of horses. He then told the coachman to stop, Shaykhona just got down from the dock because he was worried that the horse was one of the descendants of the horse\-horse owned by his teacher from Bima, **Shaykh Abdul Ghoni Al\ - Bimawy** !!
Being high on science and scholars is a death price for Shaykhona, even though the scholar is a student of his own upbringing. As stated by **Kh. Ahmad Ghazali Muhammad** in his book “Tuhfah Arrawi”, before his death, Shaykhona had visited Jombang to follow the study of Hadith which was taken care of by his own santri, namely **Kh. Hashim Asyari* \(*Beliaulah the founder of Jam’iyyah Nahdhatul Ulama' \- NU*\) in Tebuireng. Not only that, Shaykhona even took and flipped the sandals of Kiai Hashim before he got down from the musholla like a santri who hoped for the blessing of his teacher !
Of course there are still many stories of\-tales about the greatness of adab and Shaykhona morality that have not been traced to date. And with that, Shaykhona managed to achieve everything, glory, and a great name that is still very fragrant to this day.

Millennials who live in this world I think are not experiencing a crisis of science, media\-media channelers of science in this era is even more complete than in previous generations. ***The striking difference that makes us far behind our previous salaf is the decline of Adab and the increasingly prevalent morality in our generation***. Of course the main factor is the lack of knowledge of the figure of\-Supreme who deserves to be a role model.
With this writing I would like to invite you not to look at the life of a guardian of the glory “puncak” he has. But we should look back, until we know how and with what he can get and get all the glory. With that we can take the common thread that a guardian is not an unreachable being, he is a human being just like us. It is just that Allah bestowed upon him thousands of privileges.
When we read the life history of Shaykhona from zero, from the point where Shaykhona began to step up to become a scholar who so fragrant his name to this day, we can take a lot of value\- Adab values that we can model, which by practicing the sublime adab\-adab in our lives \-*though it may be very impossible for creatures like us to reach the degree of Shaykhona*\-easy\- hopefully later we can be recognized as his santri **bil ittib**’ \(*because to follow in his footsteps*\) and collected with him later with the *anbiya*’ \(the prophets\) and *awliya*’ \(the guardians\).
**فَتَشَبَّهُوْا إِنْ لَمْ تَكُوْنُوْا مِثْلَهُمْ \# إِنَّ التَّشَبُّهَ بِالْكَرَامِ فَلَاحٌ**
“*Supply them if you cannot match exactly as they \# Truly resembling a person\-noble people is the key to luck*.”.

**Pesarean** is a navel/grave.
