KH. Maimoen Zubair (Mbah Moen)
The santri Al-Anwar after the period of 2000 witnessed a lot about the life of Mbah Maimoen who was already quite well established economically. But was his life suddenly settled?.
No, his life especially in family life also started with zero.
Once on the eve of Eid al-Fithri, Shaykhona Maimoen Zubair had absolutely no rice to use as zakat fithrah and did not even have the slightest money to buy just for Eid al-Fithri, at that time his sons were small.
The evening of the feast went until mid-day, with nothing to help. After mid-night, Shaykhona Maimoen Zubair performed the tahajjud prayer. In the prayer, he read al-Waqi’ah's letter.
The Almighty's help often comes when a person is already very depressed and seems to be desperate. The help came at the right time. In Surat Al-Baqarah it is mentioned:
..... مَّسَّتۡهُمُ ٱلۡبَأۡسَآءُ وَٱلضَّرَّآءُ وَزُلۡزِلُواْ حَتَّىٰ يَقُولَ ٱلرَّسُولُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَعَهُۥ مَتَىٰ نَصۡرُ ٱللَّهِۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ نَصۡرَ ٱللَّهِ قَرِيبٞ - سورة البقرة, آية ٢١٤
...... They were afflicted with misery, suffering and shaken (with trials), so the Apostle and those who believed with him said, “When will Allah's help come?” Remember, God's help is near. (QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 214)
At dawn, someone knocked on his door. The man came with enough rice to pay for zakat fitrah and also brought something that could be used to buy snacks and the need for Eid al-Fithri.
Mbah Maimoen also told me that in the sixties, his daily food and family was “Sredek”, shredded tree ketelas were then dried to last. The grated ketella is then cooked steamed, after ripening then mixed with coconut grater.
When he was a child, Central Java Deputy Governor Gus Taj Yasin Maimoen and his younger brother Gus Idror Maimoen ate breakfast often with only white rice with half-cooked egg dishes mixed with soy sauce. It had already entered the eighties. Mother said that the food adds to the intelligence of the child.
Gus Taj Yasin Maimoen said that he also helped his mother make ice candles for sale.
From the first daily food Mbah Maimoen is what it is, but if there are special people guests such as ululia’ and state officials, the, so he will buy goat satay or chicken satay as a tribute to the guest's visit.
Even at the beginning of the wedding, Mbah Maimoen also did not have a pillow to sleep.
Similarly, the vehicle, the first time he bought Vespa ereg-ereg. After that buy a pickup doplak, then green leaves, then white antelope. When he has a white antelope, this car is also used to deliver sick students. All are used vehicles that are purchased on a cash basis.
After that he gradually changed vehicles ranging from Katana, BMW, Baleno, Mersi, Honda CRV and Mazda. After that, they have Alphard. These last two vehicles were bought new with cash.
A pretty good car was owned by him after he was starting to age.
Once there was a santri who was married said to him:
“Mbah, the Genengan is already sepuh. In order to travel comfortably, it is appropriate to have a comfortable car”.
When buying the vehicle of his married sons, he usually bought a used car. It teaches a lesson about simplicity. This means that he gave the first capital in the form of a used vehicle, although after that it still opened the opportunity to develop so that it was possible to buy a new car.
Gus Rojih said that his grandfather Mbah Maimoen dawuh:
“Kowe tak tukokno montor elek-elekan Yo. Nek mbangun omah ojo slick-apik”. (You I buy a used car, yes, if you build a house, do not be too magnificent).
Shaykhona Maimoen used to work by buying rice from Sarang. The dried rice is then taken to the starch to be used as rice. Because at that time in the Rembang area there was no rice mill. After becoming rice, then sold in the store.
He has also traded cows at the Kragan Rembang animal market for some time. And had even been the head of the Nest market for ten years. He also worked as the head of TPI where the fish auctioneers Rembang Nest. He has also been a member of the Rembang District DPRD for 7 years.
In the seventies after he was forty years old, many santri came and asked to settle down. Finally he left all efforts to find a reserve and focus on taking care of the boarding school that was once only an empty land in front of his house. On the ground was erected a small Musholla and santri's room.
After about seven years after that, he was appointed as a member of the MPR RI of Central Java for three periods.
When I came to the cottage year two thousand and three, until the year two thousand eleven guests were also not too many who sowan to Mbah Yai.
From two thousand and thirteen to the peak of the year two thousand and nineteen, many guests came from singles to groups, from, and start the community in general as well as the Shaykhs from home and abroad and officials.
Such is the case, that the life of the lovers of GOD in the world is filled with a very long struggle, and ALLAH gives a little victory at the end of his life and usually not too long so as not to reduce the pleasure provided for the lovers of GOD in the Hereafter.
وَلَلۡأٓخِرَةُ خَيۡرٞ لَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ - سورة الضحى, آية ٤
“and really, which then is better for you than the beginning” (QS. Adhuha [93]: 4)
Once upon a time Mbah Maimoen dawuh to me when he saw more and more santri and guests who came continuously.
“Piye cong you think?.” (What do you think).
I don't know why I remembered An-Nashr's letter. I just answer:
إِذَا جَآءَ نَصۡرُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡفَتۡحُ (١) وَرَأَيۡتَ ٱلنَّاسَ يَدۡخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ ٱللَّهِ أَفۡوَاجٗا (٢) فَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ تَوَّابَۢا (٣) - سورة النصر, آية ١ - ٣
“When Allah's help and victory have come (1) and you see people flocking to Allah's religion (2) then glorify your Lord and ask Him for forgiveness. Truly, He is the Most Recipient of Penance (3)” (QS. An-Nashr [110]: 1-3)
Hearing kanthongumur's reply, he simply fell silent and looked at it with a distant view.
In the Qur'an ALLAH always recounts the difficult times of the previous Prophets as a lesson that we see the great man not only in terms of his success, but more importantly we can imitate his struggles and his difficult times. Hopefully we can imitate and imitate.
النَّصْرُ مِنَ اللّٰهِ، وَالْفَتْحُ مِنَ اللّٰهِ، مَنْ كَانَ فِي حَاجَةِ خَيْرٍ تَقْضِيْهَا لَهُ يَا اللّٰهُ....آمين
“The help is from Allah, and the Victory is also from Allah. Those who have good wishes, may you grant them, O Allah. Amin”

In the Title I give the Title of the Earth Nail to Mbah Moen, because I believe he is the Earth Nail. Before he died, he often wanted to die on Tuesday, because Tuesday is the day God created the mountain. Mountains are the refutation of the earth, without mountains the earth would be shaken and unbalanced.
As he wished, he died on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 in Makkah Al-Mukarramah while at Ma’la.
Let us send Faatihah to Mbah Moen with all his family and teachers...
