Around 2003 Pondok Pesantren Annuqayah Latee Guluk-Guluk Sumenep held its first Alumni Meeting. One of the important things prepared to succeed the gawe is the publication of the book "Masyayikh Annuqayah Trail".
Thus, a special team was formed to trace the history of Masyayikh Annuqayah from the surviving witnesses. The team then moved to several areas, such as Karduluk, Kemisan, Kalabaan, and so on.
I was part of that special team that happened to be tasked with tracing the life and struggles of Kyai Haji Abdullah Sajjad. I also glided to Guluk Manjung area, Kapedi. There was a living witness named H. Abdirahman. Local people used to call him "Kyae Rahman".

His stature was rather high, his skin was yellow, thin and a little stooped from being eaten by age, yet still looked healthy and agile. His face was bright, calm, and his lips were always wet, which implied that he was an expert in worship.
According to his confession, he was 113 years old. He lived with one of his daughters from one of his wives. "More than 10 women I've married" she said with a smile.
For the surrounding community, Kyae Rahman is nothing more than an elderly old man. This is natural because he spent more time gallant outside Madura, so many do not know him deeply.
After the Dutch Military Aggression in 1947, he traveled to Java and Kalimantan. Where the earth is stepped, that is where he built the mosque. Including, where the earth is treaded, that's where he has a new wife (Hmmm. So it is natural that he then left many mosques and wives in the region.
The surrounding community also does not know that before the fall of Suharto, in 1998, KH Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur had visited Kyae Rahman. This was confirmed by his daughter who was also elderly. It is impossible for both of them to lie.
When invited to speak, he was very excited especially with regard to Annuqayah in the past. His memories and struggles seemed to reappear.

"When I went to Kyai Ilyas, his sons were little except Kyai Khazin, I remember that I used to hold Kyai Warits" Kyae Rahman began the story. "Kyai Khazin is for me a brave warrior, sometimes even desperate. Among his desperate actions was, if riding a horse, he was not facing forward, but backwards while controlling the horse. And he was never slow to ride a horse" he said.
When the Dutch came in 1947, there was an instruction from KH Abdullah Sajjad as the leader of Laskar Sabil, that the Annuqayah Pesantren should be emptied because the Dutch managed to break the Sabil defense in Pakong and had moved towards Guluk-Guluk. According to Kyae Rahman, Kyai Ilyas did not immediately empty the pesantren. Even he said, "I'm still here with Santri."
Sure enough, the Dutch came and immediately did a sweep. They searched and rummaged through all the places, but the one sought was not found. After being satisfied to tear apart the Annuqayah Pesantren, one of the Dutch leaders gave a warning that the pesantren was empty, and they left Annuqayah empty-handed.
"Any..," said Kyae Rahman, "when the time of the search Kyai Ilyas was morok santri in Annuqayah Mosque, I was also taking part in the salary even though the body was soaked in cold sweat for fear of being caught by the Dutch," coined. "His family, Kyai Ilyas is showing his neighborhood (his character)," said Kyae Rahman. Subhanallah....
The Dutch did search all the places in Annuqayah, but not as long as they set foot in the Lubangsa area. According to Kyae Rahman, they were only astonished when they saw the Lubangsa area like seeing a large pool full of water. Wallahu...

The name "Sajjad" according to Kyae Rahman is the original name of Kyai Haji Abdullah Sajjad bin KH Muhammad Syarqawi al-Kudusi, not the name of the title (where he died in prostration as Ahmad Baso's version), because when he was alive he was commonly called "Kyai Sajjad" and his troops were called "Kyai Sajjad Forces".
Kyai Sajjad was the most wanted man by the Dutch. They know that the mastermind and actor who moves the people to fight and block the Dutch movement in the Pakong area is Kyai Sajjad. So naturally if he was always hunted by the Dutch in various ways. Eventually Kyai Sajjad hid (more precisely guerrilla) in the Karduluk area.
According to Kyai Ali Wafa, a wealthy merchant in Prenduan who had saved Kyai Khazin Ilyas to Sukorejo, Kyai Sajjad had wanted to be evacuated to Sukorejo area as well, but he refused. He did not want to overthrow the people just for his own safety, so he remained in Karduluk.
When in exile, Kyai Sajjad did not forget his main task as a protector and teacher of the people. He is still often morok when the situation is considered completely safe. The material he often gave was tawhid.
He was also very creative in composing Madurese-language poems sung with Shalawat Nabi. So often the verses are sung, many of the soldiers and their attendants are memorized, including Kyae Rahman. (Note: about Kyai Song Sajjad was once published in the book "Masyayikh Annuqayah Trail" in limited edition).
The verses he kept chanting until one day a letter was sent by a courier.
If you remember and chant Kyai Sajjad's song, Kyae Rahman like to contemplate the canticle of death, because Kyai Sajjad always chant the song in the end of his life, so without feeling the tears Kyae Rahman melted at the end of both eyes.

The Dutch who are still entrenched in the Kemisan Guluk-Guluk area continue to try to sniff out the existence of Kyai Sajjad. Spies were spread, including deploying natives whose honor can be bought aka traitors.
A rumor has it that Kyai Sajjad is hiding in the Karduluk area. The Dutch also arranged a scheme. They don't want the hunt to go off. So used an old strategy that the Dutch had used to ensnare Prince Diponegoro, the "Letter of Peace".
Here Kyae Rahman tries to speculate. According to him, the letter was not actually made by the Dutch, but by traitorous natives who wanted the death of Kyai Sajjad. The letter was deliberately made by a traitor so that Kyai Sajjad out of hiding and returned to Annuqayah, then after he really returned home, the traitor then reported to the Dutch. Na'udzubillahis...
Encouraged by his longing for pesantren, Kyai Sajjad returned to Annuqayah. On the way, he felt a peace without the slightest suspicion. Until setting foot in Annuqayah, the community confused his arrival. They came in and out, day and night, just to meet him.
After learning that Kyai Sajjad was in the Annuqayah Pesantren, the Dutch immediately planned an arrest. One squad is fielded. They moved quietly at night towards Latee.
The atmosphere in Latee, which was originally full of blue, suddenly turned tense due to the presence of Dutch striped troops with long guns. Kyai Sajjad also looked a little panicked when he learned of the Dutch presence. He was not afraid, but thought why the Netherlands and how to save the people who were with him?
One team leader was smiling when he saw Kyai Sajjad. While moving forward, he asked Kyai Sajjad to be taken to the Dutch Headquarters in Kemisan for deliberation. The people are angry, they understand this cunning Dutch strategy, there will be nothing if he is willing to be brought by the Dutch. Bad things will happen to him.
The community revolted, but was arrested by Kyai Sajjad. He tried to hold back and promised the community that nothing would happen to him. Although haunted by suspicion, the community was willing to release Kyai Sajjad to be taken to Kemisan.
With full of knights, he stepped without asking for the escort of even the closest people. The cries of relatives, Handai taulan, and the community accompanied his departure.

Arriving at Kemisan, precisely in the District Office now, Kyai Sajjad interrogated by the Dutch. Initially the Dutch used a subtle way, by seducing. According to the news, if he submitted to the Dutch, then he will still be confirmed as the village head. But he does not want to.
Then with his bow, the Dutch bully Kyai Sajjad, but again he still can not be subdued. Apparently he still insisted on opposing the Dutch presence on Earth Pertiwi which was clearly proclaimed independence.
Because it does not work with seduction and bluff, the Dutch also use the ultimate way, namely executing Kyai Sajjad. Without the slightest trepidation, he would accept the consequences of his non-cooperative attitude on two conditions, namely: First, if he had been executed, then the Dutch had to leave Guluk-Guluk. Second, give him a chance to pray before he is executed. The Dutch promised to fulfill both requests of Kyai Sajjad.
That night, the atmosphere in Kemisan was really stiff and gripping. No one dared to go out of the house and appear because the Dutch imposed the Curfew. They just sit in the dark of the night.
Kyai Sajjad was taken to a field. In a place that has been determined by the Dutch, Kyai Sajjad perform the sunnah prayer. He prayed very fervently'. The Dutch are watching closely. After the greeting, Kyai Sajjad stood up and prayed again. Keep going until some greetings.
Dutch soldiers began to fury and impatiently wait for the unfinished prayer. Feeling played, a Dutch soldier took a stand while cocked his long-barreled weapon. He took aim at Kyai Sajjad who was praying from a very close distance. And...
Dor dor dor...!!!
Three gun shots barked up the silence of the night. Blood soaked all over Kyai Sajjad. Three grains of hot lead crashing through his chest. The body fell in a prostration position facing the Divine.

The Dutch smiled with satisfaction at the corpse of Kyai Sajjad, and behind the thick bushes there were several pairs of deeply smiling eyes.
According to Kyae Rahman, the place of prayer as well as the place of execution of Kyai Sajjad is in a place that is now built the monument of the hero. After his death, Kyai Sajjad's body was dragged and thrown into the corner of Kemisan field, which had once been built from wooden and bamboo substations.
In secret, some residents and families 'steal' the body of Kyai Sajjad to be taken to the Annuqayah Pesantren. The smell of fragrant fragrant smell is smelled from the blood of the Shahid. Arriving in Annuqayah, his body was immediately prayed at the Annuqayah Mosque, Kyai Ilyas acted as the imam of prayer. Blood and tears were shed on the earth Annuqayah. Then his body was buried south of the pesantren. Lahul fatihah's...!
Such is the story of the Shahid who died because of the betrayal of his own people, not because of the great invaders. Indeed, every struggle will give birth to a hero as well as a traitor. But, each act will have its own consequences.
Evidently, thanks to the struggle of the Shahid, Annuqayah is now the largest boarding school in Madura. No less than 10,000 students who study and wisdom every day in this pesantren, ranging from Kindergarten to PT.
Even this pesantren has given birth to warrior scholars, including: RKH As'ad Syamsul Arifin (Sukorejo School) and KH Djufri Marzuki (As-Shahidul Kabir School, Pamekasan), and so on. Wallahu a'lam bi al - shawab. The Beloved Republic of Indonesia...!
