Gus Mus, From time to time

KH. Mustofa Bisri, the full name of Gus Mus. Descendants “blueblood” Nahdhatul Ulama. Son of the great scholar NU KH. Bisri Mustofa's. Mustofa Bisri bin Bisri Mustofa. Stay on KH street. I'm late for Gus Mus. When a student, I prefer Cak Nur (Nurcholish Madjid), Syafii Ma’arif, Amien Rais and Buya Hamka and Kasman Singodimedjo. Understandably, since childhood in the village, I live in a strong Muhammadiyah aura. Intellectual (ulama) from among NU, in passing all I know is Gus Dur. At that time I considered Gus Dur not a cleric because his writing was a lot about film and football.

When I started college, then I mafhum, that Gus Dur is a smart human who has the ability to analyze not only in one particular realm, but is able to penetrate other domains. To this day, his writings are spread in Tempo Magazine, Forum Justice, Gatra and Prisma, I clippings. His writings on Islamic philosophy, Islamic law and Islamic history are interesting to me, as well as his ability to analyze the total football of Johan Cruyf – Rinush Michels and Canettacchionya Nerazzuri Italy as well as when he wrote about culture. Equally “renyah” and discreet.

When I went to college, I also started to know the figure of Cak Nun. This is the figure of the Nahdliyin who loved students in the 1990s together with Amien Rais (from Muhammadiyah). Cak Nun, Novia Kolopaking's husband and Noe Letto's father, has more ability to be loved by young children (especially students). His writings are so inspiring and interesting to be read by many young people, including me.

Then Gus Mus.

Only then, when Gus Dur became President, the presence of Gus Mus began “tampak”. As with Amien Rais in “jayanya”, and Cak Nun, the figure of Gus Mus is so luminous. Cultural Islam became the magnitude of Gus Mus. His deep understanding of the classical treasures of Islamic science combined with his high appreciation of modernist intellectuals (from Islam and non-– Islam) such as Taha Hussein, Hasan Hanafi, and others, Fazlur Rahman to Popper and Foucault.

He loved Egyptian singer Umm Kalsum as much as John Lennon and The Beatles. Gus Mus is also fashionable. Often use a white robe as he often also wears a sarong, blankon, hat “gaul” and suit and petalon. He is known as a scholar who has many friends. Across age, ideological or interfaith. Just like his best friend, Gus Dur.

There is a certain martyrdom and pleasure to see the depth of science (religion) and the style of Gus Mus. For Gus Mus, Islam is very “humaniwi”, shade is again soothing, cool again soothing. Islam in the glasses of Gus Mus is Islam rahmatan lil’ alamin. He does not talk in a rowdy manner, but flow-quiet-“ excites”. The lecture was so “segar” and refreshing by staying based on the aura of nationality. Something we rarely get these days.

But there is one thing that interests me the most when it comes to Gus Mus. Like Gus Dur, Gus Mus loved his family and his wife. “The source of inspiration for all my poems is Allah SWT. and my wife”, said Gus Mus to Najwa Shihab....... duhai !. I only remember the words of my late father, “if you want to do good to religion, come out .. and love your family wholeheartedly. Give up one female, do not duakan her until you are old bangka !”. And Gus Mus loves family so much, especially his wife, in the midst of his attraction “maha terbat” to be able to suspicious-suspicious his wife.

He did not reject polygamy, because in religion (Islam) it is allowed. “But allow me to keep loving my only wife until I and her age or one of us goes back to his birthday”, Gus Mus said in a tweet. Gus Mus fulfilled his promise.

Some time ago, the public discussed Gus Mus. Gus Mus was reviled and insulted with words of extraordinary abuse. As with Buya Ahmad Syafii Ma’arief, Gus Mus forgave him while saying, “you do not immediately become low if insulted by people”. Indonesia needs conditioning scholars like Gus Mus.
