In accordance with his promise last week, during the holiday Kevin invited Fay to visit one of the orphanages located in the Bantul area, but before heading to the location, he said, Kevin invites Fay to order food and buy toys for the orphanage's children.
Fay helps Kevin choose educational toys for children, "For children how many years old?" ask while sorting out some puzzle pictures of fruit, numbers and letters.
"There are a total of 20 children," Kevin replied. "5 toddlers aged 2.5 years-4 years, 3 children aged Kindergarten, 7 children aged 1 to 3 years, Elementary School, 4 Children of SD age grade 4 to 6, and the remaining 1 person age Junior High grade 2."
Fay was quite surprised, as it turned out that Kevin memorized all the children in the parlour. "Did Kevin go there often?"
"Lumayan." Kevin put some flashcards in his shopping cart. "When I'm off, I visit them often" he shrugged his shoulders. "From being confused about what to do at home."
Fay laughed, because it turns out that a doctor Kevin can also join. "Wow, really useful join" said Fay. "What about these puzzles?" tanya presented some fruit and number puzzles to Kevin.
"Can too. Can be to improve the ability of children's visuospatial skills." Kevin asks Fay to put it in his shopping cart.
Satisfied shopping for toys, they immediately went to the orphanage. On the way Fay again asked about Kevin's closeness to the children's home.
At first glance Kevin turned towards Fay, then he refocused on his vehicle. "Actually, ever since my parents died, I started going there often and playing with them" he said, looking up to hold back his tears, it still feels too crowded to remember the departure of both parents. "I see them just as I see myself. There's no one."
Fay felt guilty for asking personal questions that made Kevin sad, even though he had previously thought that Kevin was just a regular joiner not because of loneliness. "Sorry," he stroked Kevin's arm.
"That's okay," Kevin grabbed Fay by the hand and went back to telling the story. "My father died three years ago of a heart attack, and then three months later my mother caught up with me."
"Is mom sick too?"
Kevin shakes. "No. Mother had no history of serious illness, just a few days before she died, she always said she missed my father." she smiled at Fay. "A lot of tweets. They're inseparable, wherever you go, you always take mom."
"I wish we could be like them." Kevin stroked Fay's hand with his thumb.
Fay was shocked to hear Kevin say. "What do you mean Kevin?"
Kevin just smiled as he pulled over his vehicle in front of the parlour. "It's over, we're down yuk!" he let go of Fay's hand and got out of his car.
Fay was still silent in his place, it felt like he had just been shot by Kevin. "It turns out to be true what mom said," he exhaled softly as he picked up his bag and got out of the car and helped Kevin pull the toy out of the trunk of the car.
"Don't be that heavy, '" stop Kevin when Fay's about to pick up a big package. "This is it" he gave a smaller package containing a hand puppet used for storytelling.
The two walked into the orphanage, just arrived at the door the children were already shouting and behambur approached Kevin. "There's a doctor coming.." shouted one of the children who first saw Kevin, then followed up with the other children.
Kevin lowered the toys he brought to the floor, so that children were free to choose which toys they liked. "Don't scramble, change one-on-one" said Kevin.
"Where is this put?" tanya Fay looked towards the package in her hand.
"This we will give to the caretaker only, because they used to tell stories to children before they slept."
Fay nodded, "Okay."
In the middle of a crowded atmosphere of children choosing toys that they like, suddenly there was one of the 5-year-old children who walked towards Kevin and Fay using a stick. "Om doctor." he shouted cheerfully at Kevin's arrival.
"A little while Fay," Kevin stroked Fay's shoulder and ran over to the boy. "Assalamualaikum, Habibati," said Kevin while squatting to align himself with the boy (Habibati is a affectionate call derived from Arabic for girls which means dear.)
"Walaikumsalam Om doctor," the boy's eyes were fixed on Fay who was already standing behind Kevin. "Who is it?"
Fay extended his hand towards the beautiful boy, the boy did not accept Fay's hand, he hugged Fay warmly. "Our names are almost the same, my name is Fania. Thanks aunty Fay, for coming here."
"Belove you, too" Fay stood up again, then poked the boy.
"Berat Fay, let me be," Kevin immediately asked Fay to give Fania to him, but Fay refused. "Not really," Fay turned to Fania. "Main equals aunty yeah."
"Can aunty play the piano?"
Fay shook his head, there was no musical instrument that he mastered, even to sing it felt like Fay was not confident, he felt his voice was like a broken bucket. "No. Aunty can't play the piano?"
"Fania wants to play some music?" ask Kevin. "We play together, bring the other brothers."
"Eh?" As Fay panics, he doesn't want to embarrass himself and embarrass Kevin for never playing the piano, he can only squeeze the base scales, do, re, mi, fa, sol, he can only, la, si, do. The rest he did not understand.
Fay's panic goes away when he sees Kevin and Fania sitting at the piano, they are duet playing the piano, while the other children sing.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I messed up tonnage, I lost another fight
Lost to myself, but I'll just start again
I keep falling down, I keep on hitting the ground
I always get up now, see what's next
Birds don't just fly, they fall down and get up
Nobody learns without gettin' it wrong
I won't give up, no, I won't give in
'Til I reach the end, and then I'll start again
No, I won't leave, I wanna try everything
I wanna try even though I could fail
Fay stood in the back with the caretakers, watching Kevin perform with the children, as if watching a choir concert. "Wow, awesome!" muttered.
"Doctor Kevin himself taught the children to sing and play music" said one of the caretakers, he pointed to one of the photos that was attached to the wall of the music room. "Three months ago the children were invited to the choir in Balaidesa."
Fay nodded, he walked down the wall of the music room to look at the other photos. Fay smiles when he finds a picture of Kevin there with the children, from the photo he can already deduce for himself how close Kevin is to them.
