Chapter 32: Examination

After completing the task, the Crewmates were gathered in the cafeteria. All were present except Black.

"Where's Black?" Ask Lime.

"I don't know, I've gone to the communication but didn't find it" Yellow replied followed by Rugel's barking.

"I'm sorry everyone, I'm late" said Black who appeared from the door. Everyone turned their heads towards Black and could only snort.

"Where are you from, Black?" White asked as Black sat down.

"From the toilet" Black replied without feeling guilty.

"Yes, then," said White, turning his attention to the Crewmates, "I gathered you here because we're going through the examination. There are currently 2 Impostors left between us and this examination aims to find that two."

Blue raised his hand, "What kind of examination are we going to undergo? Is it effective to find the Impostor among us?" Ask.

"This check will use a scan tool. It will not be complicated and is 100% sure to work because it serves to detect the inside of our body. We all know that the Impostor has a different anatomy" White replied.

"Anyone who first sees the Impostor will definitely immediately conclude it is not human" whispered Black who was only heard by Red.

After that, they all left for medbay not far from the cafeteria. Although it had passed through the room, but this was the first time Red had actually noticed the room.

Medbay in Mira HQ has a room size that is not too big with 6 beds and a scan tool. Even according to Red, the medbay on The Skeld is bigger than this.

There are already two scientists who will help them, Mr. Leon and a guard who from his face alone can make Black conclude that this person is not friendly.

"The way this tool works is simple. You just stand by and he'll scan it automatically. The results will appear on that screen" explains one of the scientists.

"Now, who will advance first?" The Crewmates looked at each other. Until White finally came forward first.

When White was already standing on it, from the tool appeared a green circle that moved slowly over White's body accompanied by a unique sound. After the circle reached White's head, it descended again until it returned to the scan. The result also appears on the screen.

"Captain White is safe, now who else?" The scientist asked as White got off the device.

One by one they came forward to be scanned. Black, Brown, Lime, Cyan, Pink, Yellow, everything is scanned and the results are safe. Red is the last.

"Now the rest of Red," said the scientist then gazed at Red.

Red returned the Scientist's gaze and looked at the scan. Though nothing dangerous, but from earlier Red continued to tremble and break out in cold sweat. He felt as if the scan tool was something frightening.

"Come, Red. Go ahead, you're not an Impostor, "inner Red.

"Of course he won't go forward, it must be because he's afraid of his identity being exposed" the guard commented. On his right chest was a nametag, where his name was Gregory.

"What do you mean?" Black's question did not accept.

"What else? All of you who were scanned proved safe except this one. Without a scan, if from his logic it means it is clear he is the Impostor," he replied.

"But we haven't seen it yet" said Leon.

"Come on Red, just go ahead. It wouldn't be creepy if you believed in yourself if you weren't an Impostor" the scientist said.

Red took a deep breath and walked over to the scan. While walking, Red felt his legs were so heavy to step on. Even he also felt so weak while standing on that thing.

A green circle appeared and started scanning Red's body. Everything stood tense, but only Black Red saw his tense expression.

When the circle reached Red's stomach, suddenly Red's stomach was attacked by a very stabbing pain to the point that he fell down and the device stopped scanning.

"Ugh," Red lamented as he hugged his extremely aching stomach.

"Ray!" Call Black in a panic and he walks over to his friend.

Black embraced Red and rubbed his shoulders to give it a slight sense of calm. Some people were panicking, but some were confused.

"His this why? It wouldn't be able to scan her if she were like that" one of the scientists said.

"Hey boy, are you okay?" Ask the other scientist and come to Red and calm him down.

"You said that Impostor has a mouth on his stomach, right?" Gregory walked up to the three of them. While the others began to prepare to listen to his scathing sentence.

"When scanned, this child feels a stomach pain which means this tool causes pain in that part" said Gregory while pointing at Red who was sweating and trembling due to pain.

Black shook Gregory's hand and stood up so they were level now, "Stop your bullshit. Not yet scanned means the information is not clear. You don't just draw conclusions if you haven't seen Impostor yourself."

"The scan tool is also painless" said one of the scientists.

"I agree with Black. After all, among them there are 2 Impostors, it's strange if everything is safe except Red," replied Leon sir.

Suddenly Red stood up, stopping the debate between Black and Gregory.

"Red, is your stomach still hurting?" Black asked worriedly and then approached Red.

"I'm fine. I would normally be like this if I was scared. Maybe I'm too paranoid" Red replied slowly.

"Are you ready for a scan?" Red nodded, "Alright, let's continue that one."

Black and the scientist get out. The circle appeared again and began to scan. No interference, the scan this time went well. When it was over, everyone waited impatiently for the result.

The scan results appeared and made them dumbfounded. The results stated that Red was safe, they all looked at each other.

"seen? Don't just talk next time," Black replied so that it created frustration in Gregory's heart.

"It's very strange, this tool should have managed to find the Impostor among them," said one of the scientists while rubbing his chin.

"Unless this device breaks," the other one replies.

"damaged? We've been guarding this all night, how can it be broken?" Gregory did not accept.

"Yes, I heard yesterday that you found a tumor in the body of one of the astronauts. Then also this tool has been guarded since they came," said Mr. Leon also.

"But this thing looks like it's okay, you want to dismantle it?" Ask Lime.

"We have to make sure first, I'll call Farah here" one of the scientists said as he walked out.

"Flood? What's for?"

"A few months ago, Farah underwent surgery to remove her kidney which means that now her kidney is 1. If it is scanned and the kidneys are still there 2 means this tool is completely damaged," he explained. His friend understood.

Moments later, the scientist returned with a woman named Farah.

"What's wrong?" Farah asked confusedly.

"Nothing, can you stand there for a minute? We want to make sure of something" the scientist asked.

Farah nodded then stood on top of the scan. It started scanning Farah's body. When the results appeared, the two Scientists nodded their heads.

"It turns out" they both commented.

"My kidneys have two? How come? I was actually operating at the time, did they trick me? So, am I dead now?" Ask Farah in panic.

"Calm down, this thing is just broken. We just want to make sure before it is repaired" replied the scientist.

Farah let out a sigh of relief, "God I thought what was that. If it's fixed, I want to try it again" he said, walking away.

"He was over-thinking" Black commented.

"Hush," White scolded and flicked her hand in front of Black's face. It made the man shocked and grunted.

"So, last night what were you guys doing?" Ask Mr. Leon to Gregory to make sure of something.

"Of course we're on our guard" Gregory replied.

"Then why is this device broken?" Leon asked again.

"We... We don't know. That night we were on our guard and we were pretty sure no one went into medbay" Gregory said in self-defense. He himself was also confused why this could happen when it was clear they were standing guard at the door and no one was in or out.

Black analyzed Gregory's words, then he looked at the room and his gaze was fixed on the vent on the left.

"That was Impostor, it seems he already knew that we were going to be examined" Black said.

"How come? I just gave this information to Black and Brown, nothing else" White said. Black gulped and turned his attention to Red. Red also gave the same reaction.

"By the way, what else do you know about Impostor?" Ask Leon sir. He tried to get more complete information.

"They made vent as their path of movement. Unlike engineers who are not able to linger in the vent, Impostor can be in it for days," replied Lime.

"What about their IQ?"

"If that one, we're still uncertain as well. But it looks like they have some ingenuity in mingling among the Crewmates. It was evident he could also damage the device, "White replied.

Gregory suddenly remembered something, "Wait a minute, aren't you wearing that tracking bracelet? We can detect them from that thing."

"We've checked the device, but the results are nothing suspicious. Everything is moving as usual" replied one of the scientists.

Mr. Leon was silent, for a long time he thought until he finally came to a conclusion.

"This examination we end here first. Gregory, you go and get one of the engineers to fix this. White, I wish you much more to find out more about the Impostor so that we can get a bright spot about the creature. I expect a lot from you" he said.

Gregory nodded then went to carry out his orders. So did the entire Crewmate who left the room.

Meanwhile, the Impostor who was currently mingling among them smiled cunningly.

"My plan worked, '" he said.
