“Who is he, Mia?” ask Adriano again. This time his tone sounded full of emphasis.
Mia woke up, then turned to her husband. “Dia is ...”
“My name is Carlo. Valentino is my twin brother,” interrupted the man. “It looks like you misunderstood, Mia. Valentino is not alive anymore,” the man named Carlo is trying to make jokes.
“What?” Mia turned her gaze to Carlo. “Vale have twin brothers?” Mia scrunched her forehead and looked incredulous.
“Yes, maybe he never told you. Our parents divorced when she and I were toddlers. Valentino went with the padre, then the padre remarried. Similarly with mio madre (my mother),” said Carlo.
“After my mother got married, I went with her and lived in Switzerland. However, my relationship with Vale is very good. We often send messages and call. Lastly, when she was about to marry you, she sent you a picture of the two of you in a wedding dress. Too bad I can not attend, because madre is sick,” continued Carlo explained.
“Can anyone explain to me what happened exactly?” curiosity and jealousy mixed into one in Adriano's chest at the time.
“Adriano,” Mia seemed hesitant to give an explanation to her husband, because it meant that he would re-route the wounds and traumas that he had long suffered. However, Adriano still needs an explanation.
“He was Valentino's twin brother, the man who married me for the first time, before I married Theo. He died at our wedding with my father. They died on the same day,” explained Mia slowly.
Adriano was stunned for a while before regaining control. “So, this man ...” his words paused, while his index finger led to the tomb that was in front of him.
“Yes, he's Valentino. My late first husband,” explained Mia.
“Actually, it's not right for you to call him a husband, because I know, Vale hasn't touched you until his death,” Carlo interrupted in a very strange-sounding tone, made Mia and Adriano immediately turn their heads simultaneously towards him.
“Yes, I know everything. Valentino always told me every detail about you two. How happy my brother is, when you finally accept his proposal. However, he also feels sad when you don't want to be approached by him,” said Carlo. His eyes look sad.
“I ...” Mia looks wrong. He doesn't know what to say.
“It's okay, Mia. Vale is happy now. His life has calmed down, especially if you see him in his current state. To be honest, I was so fascinated when I saw you in person. You're much prettier than you are in the photos,” flatter Carlo. His heart changed with a look of admiration.
“Ehm,” Adriano cleared her throat while tightening her hand on Miabella's tiny fingers. “Looks like we're going to fail the streets today, Principessa,”.
“Why, Daddy Zio?” miabella's tiny lips curved up, as if showing her disappointment to the father.
Adriano did not have time to answer, Mia already said, “Don't listen to him, Bella. We'll be touring Venice in a minute.”
After which, Mia took a few steps forward and cupped her hands together. He prayed fervently for Valentino. Finished praying, he nodded at Carlo and invited him to shake hands. “See you next time, Carlo. Give my regards to uncle and aunt,” he said.
Carlo was still with a gaze full of admiration towards Mia. He looked at the woman who had once been married to his twin brother, who wrapped his arms around Adriano's arms and began to walk away. “Wait!” prevent it suddenly with a loud enough voice. “Can I ask for your phone number? Um.... just to exchange news,” pinta Carlo.
“Grazie,” whispered Mia. He then mentioned the row of numbers that Carlo immediately stored into his phone.
“Grazie, Mom. Grazie, Mr. ..” Carlo extended his hand to Adriano.
“Adriano,” reply. “Adriano D’Angelo,” said the blue-eyed man tried to keep looking friendly and calm.
“Good, Signore D’Angelo. You two are such a compatible couple,” praise Carlo again. Occasionally the man's round eyes glanced at Miabella, who was hiding behind his sturdy body.
“See you later, Carlo,” says goodbye to Mia as she passes by with her little family. They leave the burial place accompanied by the meaningful gaze of the twin brother Valentino Diori.
In the vehicle, after helping Miabella sit in a special toddler seat and put a seatbelt on, Adriano was silent for a while. He still remembered Carlo's face and his sweet words for Mia.
“Come, Daddy Zio. Quick walk. I want to see the ship,” take Miabella who is getting impatient.
“Ah, yes, forgive me, Principessa,” Adriano smiled through the middle rearview mirror, then turned on the car engine. He occasionally glanced at Mia who had become even more reserved since meeting Carlo.
“Her cup, one more fan added, dear. After Juan Pablo, now .... the man,” Adriano shook his head slowly while chuckling.
“Not really, Honey. It's nothing yet, because your fans are so much more than me,” Mia replied. “Bianca, Carina, Olivia .. used to be, though not now and the beautiful boutique owner who always looked at you without blinking. Ah, what's his name, I forgot?" lure Mia in a satirical tone.
Adriano heard it. “I don't think you're counting everything,” he said withholding laughter. "Here you go, I don't have to keep remembering them either. Anyway, now I'm married so ...."
“Ya of course. However, the reality is that after marriage there are still many women who cover you. Somehow the life you lived before being with me,” grumbled Mia slowly while turning her face to the window.
“You really want to know, Mia? All right, I'll let you know. Before meeting you, there were many women surrounding me. I had forgotten how many because I did not have time to count them,” somehow Adriano said such a sentence to Mia. However, he immediately regretted his words. In fact, jealousy over Carlo's attitude towards Mia, slightly disturbed Adriano's sanity in thinking. “Sorry, Dear. I didn't mean ...” Adriano was forced to stop his sentence, when the ringtone of the message from the phone sounded loud enough.
While breaking his concentration in driving, Adriano grabs the phone from his shirt pocket and opens the message that appears there. A message from Juan Pablo accompanied by a photo attachment that would be enough to make a normal person shudder in horror. The photo was none other than a picture of Lionel's corpse with his body already in a torn state. Just below the photo, there are the words sent by Juan Pablo.
‘Gift for you, mr D’Angelo’.
Adriano glued for a while. His face instantly looked tense at that moment.
“Who sent the message? Is it from one of your fans?” mia quipped with suspicious sentences.
“Ah no, Darling. No one,” elak Adriano stuttered a little. There was clearly no way he would show the sadistic photo to his wife. Immediately, Adriano put his phone back in his pocket and no longer discussed it. However, from what the Mexican man sent for him, immediately made Adriano alert and curious about who the figure of Juan Pablo really is.
