Thin mist settles at the foot of the mountain, the wind blows vibrating twigs of shrubs on the edge of the grass field that is still wet by the rest of the dew.
The bushes trembled as a pair of feet thudded down the path leading to the field, the dry twigs creeping over the pair of legs.
"Open Zu!" a frantic shout shrieked from the end of the path, to the point of touching a pair of birds perched on a tree branch.
Hua Zu and Shin Wu were flabbergasted looking at the middle-aged woman with a musty white samfoo patterned in cherry blossoms that was running towards them in a frenzy.
Zhu An Nio—Mother Hua Zu, her breathing was wheezing, her canvas shoes were scratched in the muddy ground. Sweat was flooding in his temple. "What are you doing here?" pekiknya panting.
The two boys were playing at the end of a field at the border of the forbidden forest in the Jinzhi valley.
An Nio finally reached their place and directly grabbed the arms of the two and dragged them away from the forest. "I've warned you many times" he sprayed with a huffed-up look. "Don't approach the forbidden forest!"
"Why is Jinzhi forest off limits?" Shin Wu asked after they reached the side yard of Hua Zu's cottage.
An Nio bent down bending his stomach with one hand, while the other hand was propped up on the back porch roof support pole. "Because it is considered sacred to the descendants of the light sect," he replied gasping. "No man was accepted. Jinzhi forest will not let them in or out alive."
After his breathing recovered, An Nio rushed into the backyard.
The two boys followed him.
An Nio piled pieces of firewood on the side of the fireplace from the clay that looked worn and cracked here and there. A pinch of her hair that had turned white slipped off her bun and decomposed covered one of her eyes as she leaned over. He tried to remove the hair from his eyes with the back of his hand. But every time he went back down, the hair fell back to cover his eyes.
"Tell me more about Jiyou!" Shin Wu urged An Nio with excitement.
An Nio sighed and straightened his body. He patted his palms together to get rid of the dust. After that he left his waist while looking at the two boys in front of him in turn. Then smile and touch.
The two boys scrambled to get close to An Nio.
"There used to be a war in heaven between the gods of light and the gods of darkness" An Nio begins the story. "The gods of light are called Ilojim, while the gods of darkness are called Legion."
"Then who is Jiyou?" Shin Wu interrupted impatiently.
"Jiyou is the god of light" An Nio replied. "He had a twin brother named Jian. They are both angels. As they fight against the dragon, Jiyou manages to crush the angel of darkness without using a weapon."
"Whoa.." Shin Wu looked impressed. "How did he do it?" Shin Wu was getting curious.
An Nio smiled, "He has nine gifts of light that can annihilate the universe as well as restore it. Jiyou had also sealed the dragon with the nine gifts of light within her in a self-destructive manner. But no one knows how long the seal will last."
Shin Wu gaped between astonishment and horror.
An Nio let out a short sigh and smiled grimly at Hua Zu, then bowed and touched his shoulder. "Listen, Hua Zu! Jiyou's struggle is not over, the war of light and darkness is still going on in the underworld to this day. I don't know when the dragon will finally wake up, but Jiyou is gone. He destroyed himself to save us. We must not forget how precious our lives are. Especially you! You have the mark of Ilojim. It's your special responsibility." He reminded as he rubbed the golden hair of Hua Zu who was already shoulder-length and partially tied in a hun style.
Shin Wu just opened his mouth, preparing to ask again, as a sudden commotion rang out.
The voices!
The voices were getting louder, carried away by the wind.
Rhythmless voices.
They put their ears on, frozen in the heat of the sun. They felt like they had suddenly turned to stone.
Immediately, the residents rushed out of their respective huts, then rushed in droves towards the square.
"What's going on?" An Nio asked a neighbor who was passing by in a hurry.
"Emperor!" the neighbor said with a breath. "The emperor answered our call for help. He sent messengers to hear us, and. elders of the protective spirit hall."
An Nio stammered, while the neighbor had already passed.
The protective spirit hall is a kind of highly authorized religious court. Their power is equal to that of the Political Party. Their elders dominated the ranks of the seats of the Regional Superior Council at the bottom of the country. And the protective spirit hall is in full control of the law.
They never come to hear, An Nio's inner bitter. Then look at Shin Wu. "Shin Wu, you have to go back to the prince's hall!" his command with a huffed face, then turned to Hua Zu. "You too" he said. "Go home!"
Shin Wu turned around and waved at Hua Zu. Then hurriedly left the grounds of Hua Zu's cottage.
Hua Zu still looked doubtful.
An Nio leaned over as he gripped his two sons shoulders, "Listen, Hua Zu!" he warned in a sharp whisper. "You'll have to wait for the next sign. But not now. Now it's your job to take care of yourself. I'll make sure one day you understand. Now go!"
Hua Zu nodded and turned around, then walked while bowed, stepping reluctantly. After a while, he looked back.
His mother had already joined the other women, rushing towards the square.
Then quietly, Hua Zu sneaked into the crowd, mingling with the crowd towards the square.
An Nio did not notice it.
Arriving at the square, it turned out that Lim Shin Wu was also there, mingling with the royal troops of his people.
Hua Zu glanced at her with an expression pretending not to know Shin Wu.
An Nio was also unaware of it.
The presence of an elder from the Guardian Spirit Hall made his gaze focused on the man who liked to wear the white cloak vigilantly.
A number of Luoji's soldiers lined up haughtily guarding behind him.
Who does not know Ma Tuoli?
The most fanatical elder who always spoke kindness in violent ways.
Unfortunately, Emperor Tio Bing actually sent Ma Tuoli to face them.
It will not be easy, An Nio thought. Ever since hearing the name of the Guardian Spirit Hall mentioned, his premonition had indeed gone bad. Plus Ma Tuoli, the Guardian Spirit Hall was nothing like an underworld fairy tale.
"Your plants failed?" Ma Tuoli began his judgment.
Judgment is the right word to describe the way this elder spoke.
"You beg the Emperor for help, but you never help yourself!"
That was what Ma Tuoli meant by typical judgment.
