My Killer Lecturer's
Small Debate

"Zein, Big brother, take Maira for a second, yeah!" I said to Zein. A moment later, I approached Maira. "Maira Darling ... Mommy wants to talk first with Enin and Ateu Rayya. Maira is not pa-pa, will you wait here with Om Zein" I asked the little girl.

"Okay, Buna," Maira replied as she ran over to Zein.

"Smart boy," welcome Zein while holding Maira. "Yep, play HP same Om on the sofa," Zein asked Maira, pointing at the sofa in the corner of the room.

"Okay, Om." Once again Maira answered with a big smile, revealing her row of clean white little teeth. Ah, what an adorable little angel.

"Come Ma, Ray, we go to the mosque first to pray magrib. After that, we go to the cafeteria. Let's explain everything there." I took Mama and Rayya to pray magrib and to the cafeteria afterwards.

Not wanting to keep the curiosity any longer, mama and Rayya followed me out of the Fatwa's nursery. I invited them to perform the magrib prayer first. A few minutes passed, after performing the magrib prayer, we finally went to the cafeteria to talk all over dinner.

"So, what would you like to explain about the child? Why is he the same as Brother at this time? Where's the nanny?" asked the mother who was accompanied by Rayya's nod.

"Well, that's what Rayya wants to ask you, big brother" Rayya said.

I took a breath for a moment. "Before, Brother apologized if Brother has made a decision without discussing with you first. So, starting today, Brother has appointed Maira as Big Brother's daughter," I said not to mince words.

"What?! peek stuck mama and Rayya. For a moment, mama circulated her gaze to see the reaction of the people towards her. However, the residents of the cafeteria like not bothered by the screeches of mama are quite hard. Evidently if they look stupid without even a single glance at our table.

Mama also breathed a sigh of relief while rubbing her chest. "Thank God" said my mother.

"Mama why?" asked Rayya who was surprised by the behavior of her mother.

"No pa-pa, Deck. Earlier, Mama was just afraid that we would be the center of attention of people" replied Mama.

"Ish, this Mama," Rayya said, patting her on the back.

I smiled thinly. That's what I've always missed during my time in captivity. I thought, I'll never feel the warmth of a family like this again. But thank God for giving me the chance to go back to them.

"Well, you're smiling, brother. Why did you make your decision without asking us?" ask mama ketus.

"Does Mama mind?" todongku.

"Aish, that's not what you are. Look, Son. Raising the girl is not easy. Will a–"

"I mean Mama?" I cut off his conversation.

This time, I was the one who got Rayya's reprimand through clapping his hands. "Ish, Brother ... Dengerin Mama talk dong first! Maen is fine," Rayya scolded as she pursed her lips.

"Yes-yes .. sorry, Ma," I replied, scratching the non-itchy nape.

"So actually, what do you mean by Mama?" I asked again after my mother ended her talk.

"I mean Mama. There should be a lot of consideration if we raise a daughter. First, we need to know the ins and outs of the child. Who are the brothers from the father's side. Because, after all, Maira will get married later, and of course she needs an uncle, om, grandfather, uwa men to be guardians" said mama.

"But, that Rizal bang has no one, Ma. Since childhood he lived a life of kara. She herself grew up in an orphanage," I argue.

Mama took her breath. "Well, let's forget about it. Maira was a child. However, there are more important than just a marriage guardian," said Mama.

"What is that, Ma?" ask Rayya and me.

"Brother, if Brother is married, he should be able to keep his eyes on Maira," said mama.

"I mean Mama?" Back me and Rayya asked because they could not digest my mother's words.

"Maira is not your husband's mahram. So her law is forbidden except her face and palms. Do you want to put a veil on Maira so that your husband can avoid sin?" ask mama ketus.

"Ish, this Mama," I said.

Honestly, I never understood the law of raising children religiously. I was just putting my empathy towards the kid. I can't imagine Maira's fate if she had to live in an orphanage.

Bang Rizal once told me how hard it was to fight alone in an orphanage. I don't want Maira to feel what her father has ever felt. What's more, Maira's daughter. Don't let him go the wrong way because he feels wasted.

"Will Brother think someday if Brother does get a mate, Ma. Didn't, all this time Mama herself knew that the soul mate brother has not been seen. So, please respect Brother's decision. Honestly, you cannot be silent when you see the injustice happening in front of your own eyes. Maira was already like a bekel ball thrown to and fro by irresponsible adults. Her real mother just hates her. Even his grandparents did not want to take care of him. The only person who loved Maira, had already left her. So, you can't just stand idly by to see Maira have to live a kara. Please, position if Mama sees Brother like that. What if Mama's daughter suffers a fate like Maira's? Is Mama gonna take it and close her eyes?" tell me where.

I just wanted to say what I felt when I decided to raise Maira. And hopefully, Mama's not offended by what I decided.

I saw my mom take a deep breath. A moment later, he exhaled slowly.

"Yes, Brother is right. Let's think about it later," concluded the mother ended a small debate between us.

"Ish, you guys! Ah, Rayya really doesn't understand your mindset!" grouse Rayya.

It seems like Rayya is still upset by the decision I made. Therefore, she immediately moved out of her chair when she heard that she supported my decision.

"Already, do not mind the words of your sister. He was still too small, so not very familiar with the feelings of adult women. We better get back to the room. Maira must be worried waiting for you," asked mama.

I'm nodding. After paying for the food and buying the fried rice for Maira and Zein's dinner, we walked together to return to the Fatwa's nursery.
