The Dungeon Master's
Chapter 47 - The Obelisk

“A-what do you mean by looking for me?” Asked Eric who was currently still in the hands of the giant minotaur.

‘Grrrr!!’

“Oi! I knew you could talk earlier!”

‘Grrr!’

“Don't pretend to be a senseless monster! I'm sure I heard you talking. Quick stop and tell me what you mean!”

‘Grrrr!!’

But whatever Eric did, the minotaur didn't answer. At least not in a language Eric understands.

Quickly, the minotaur takes Eric through its excavation tunnels. The size is quite large and very long this confuses Eric.

‘Why didn't he kill me?’ Eric thought to himself.

But at least now he knows he is safe. Well, even though dying wasn't a big deal to Eric either.

After nearly an hour of running, the minotaur finally stopped. The view reminds me of the past. The minotaur boss's room by the time I found the old book.

A large room with a door that had been shattered at the side. Because darkness was enveloping this place at that moment I was unable to see it clearly. But now it's different.

This place was filled with torches blazing with blue flames.

“What happened?” I said to myself.

“Welcome, Eric.”

I heard a voice like a man from a distance. I immediately turned to the source of the voice. There is a throne room. That shiny, tall gold-plated chair was occupied by someone.

Around him were many treasures. Gold everywhere.

However, the giant minotaur that had brought me here was lost somewhere. Maybe the guy did something? I don't know.

“What does this mean?” I asked the mysterious man sitting on the throne.

“My name is Obelisk. This Dungeon Lord.” He replied in an arrogant tone while sitting on that golden throne.

“Obelisk? Ah, my name is Eric.”

“I already know. You are the one who took the key to read the Summoner's ancient book right? I've been watching you from afar ever since.” The reply.

“Ah, yes. Sorry is that yours? And also watching me?!” I asked with a little fear.

“Close.”

I also approached the throne with a trembling body. Honestly, I was a little surprised why I did not know the existence of the treasure in this room at that time? Is it just because of the dark? Or is my mind focused on the key to the book? Or because of that dangerous minotaur?

“That book is not mine, Eric. I stole it from an ancient temple in the region of the Avertia Empire.” Obviously the man called the Obelisk. His appearance is incredible. Clothes with jewelry everywhere. Behind the robe there is a gold-plated armor and decorated with beautiful jewels. And on his head was a golden crown with a beautiful jewel in the middle.

“Sorry but I don't understand what you mean...”.

“I stole the book and accidentally locked it. Then I accidentally put that key in this room. It is located in the neck of the minotaur. My goal was to see the ability of the book's owner before I handed it over. But you ran.” Obelisk.

“Ah.. about it yes. Ii'm sorry. I have a low level so inevitably have to..”.

“Whatever your level, that minotaur will grow following you. Therefore, this test will be difficult for anyone. But you surpassed it in a strange way.”

“Are you going to take again this ancient book ability?” My toot. I feel like I don't deserve to have it if I fail the exam.

“Interesting words.” Answer the Obelisk with a smile.

“To be honest at first I doubted you, Eric. But knowing that you are able to open the gates to the underworld, and even create a monster city and lead them like that with incomplete power…. You're keeping me interested!” Obelisk.

“Eh? Interested?”

“Yes! The Summoner ability shouldn't be used that way! I've seen it dozens of times! At most they were only able to have thousands of troops that even rampaged at their will! But you! Make them bow to you like that…. How exciting!” Answer the Obelisk while standing from its throne. His mouth smiled very wide.

“It's a hard thing? I just need to find them to eat and..”.

Unable to finish my words, the Obelisk that had been above the throne had now been by my side in an instant.

“Yes, it is a difficult thing if you only rely on Summoner's ability. However, that power is very powerful and able to shake the world.

Every owner of that power always plans to rule the world. The best possibility was that Summoners could survive for just a few weeks before their strength was sealed by the Inquisitors.” Answer the Obelisk with a smile.

“But you…. You can hide well. Improve your abilities and your troops neatly. Even to the extent that you are able to summon demons. Honestly, this is the first time a Summoner has been able to maintain his ability all this time.”

“I? I have been in this world for thousands of years!” The Obelisk answered him with a pretty horrible smile.

‘Eh? Is that possible?’

The developer company Re:Life wants to create a world that is new and completely unexplored by humans. Therefore, prior to the release of the company Re:Life had created 100 virtual worlds and was running simulations at a very high speed.

Armed with an NPC with a high level of AI, the Re:Life company is able to make a whole new world history without the touch of its maker's hand. They simply instilled the rules and basic NPCs and then let the world run for thousands of years with high acceleration.

The outcome?

Of the 100 virtual worlds, 1 is now known as Re:Life.

That was why an NPC like the Obelisk that had a history of thousands of years was possible. All because the world itself has been running longer than that. But of course Eric doesn't know that.

“Then…. What do you want from me?” I'm afraid to see the terrible appearance of the Obelisk.

“Simple only, Eric. I want you to carry on my legacy. I have a dream to become a Demon King. But when I almost reached it, I failed. Now my body can't last much longer.” Answer the Obelisk with a face that looks so sad and sorry.

After a good look, the Obelisk's body hidden under the golden robe and armor began to fade. As if it were translucent.

“My ability alone is unable to make me a Demon King. That's why I lost against one of the Demon Lords, Belphegor.” Obelisk.

“Ra-King of Devils?!” To be honest I was surprised to hear someone challenge the Demon King.

“If only I hadn't been arrogant back then and amassed more strength, I would have won against him. But it's all too late. After successfully stealing the Summoner's power, my real body had long since died. Right now I am able to survive by using my mana supplies. If it's over…. Then I'll disappear forever.” Obelisk.

“Eric, I beg of you. Continue my legacy. Fill my ambitions. If you promise me that, I'll give you all my strength.at least what's left in this world.” Obelisk. Now his body is getting more transparent.

At that time, the system notification window appeared.
