Chapter 42. Lennox Proposal

In her room, Shadow thought of Frisia's drunken speech earlier.

“Truly this Von Amstel family is so crazy! The lover of the city lord's daughter also dared them hostage just so Hugo could marry her? What else am I just a foster home girl. No wonder he was able to throw the mother of his son into the sea!” furious Shadow.

“Looks like me I have to establish cooperation with Frisia,” Shadow thought again.

“But I still can't get close to Hugo who is always in the watchful eye of his bodyguards. How to approach it safely, so that I can bring Moreno to run without obstruction.”

That morning's breakfast, the stale stench of alcohol still emanated from Frisia's mouth as she yawned widely. Making the eating atmosphere very uncomfortable. Hugo had a dark face because of it. His eyes looked at Frisia sharply. But his wife did not care.

Hugo left immediately after his breakfast was over. He slammed the napkin on the table because he was so upset. Moreno became surprised, but Shadow persuaded him quickly. He brought his son away from there, so there is no need to hear the commotion of husband and wife who are provoking each other's emotions.

Lennox came back during the day, right after Moreno took a nap. He pulled Shadow into the courtyard. “I want to talk about something,” he said seriously.

The Shadow that was pulled just followed. “What's up?” ask him with a breath.

“Will you be my wife?” Lennox proposed to Shadow on his knees. He showed a simple ring with glittering eyes.

Shadow was shocked by the seriousness of the man. But he never thought of looking for another Von Amstel man as Hugo's replacement.

“I ... I can't, Sir. I'm just a babysitter.” Shadow rejects Smooth.

“Again, seeing the atmosphere of the household here, I feel like I don't want to get married!” added Shadow.

“That's because they don't love each other. Their marriage was for business only! Unlike me who is not a family heir. I'm a little free to choose a life partner!” obviously Lennox, to convince Shadow.

“What do you love me?” ask Shadow with a face of astonishment.

“I've been in love with you since I first saw you!” lennox said again.

“I've thought about this carefully. I can no longer stay away from you. It feels like crazy to see you around Hugo!” pissed Lennox.

Shadow laughing. “Of course I'll be around him. Because I nurtured her son,” Shadow said amusedly.

“Then let's get married and have children of our own. You can babysit and take care of it for as long as you want!” lennox.

“Moreno is also my son. That's why I have to take care of it!” shodaw said in his heart.  He froze in place for a moment.

“Shadow, I can't hold it anymore. I---”

“Master, let me think first,” Shadow said finally. He said it wasn't because he was really going to consider Lennox's proposal, but he had thought of something. Perhaps by approaching Lennox, he could be closer to the original purpose he came to this house.

Lennox became elated after hearing Shadow would consider his proposal.

“Now I haven't loved you. I'm .. I guess you're like another noble man who only jokes to tease girls,” Shadow finally explained.

“Ah .. I know. I know that my proposal surprised you. You're right, we don't even understand each other. All right, I give you time to believe my seriousness,” Lennox said with a beaming face.

“How about you wear this ring now?” ask Lennox urgently.

“No! That's a proposal ring. I can't accept it yet,” reject Shadow.

“Ah, later to propose to you, I buy you a better ring than this,” persuaded Lennox not to give up.

“Pict this friendship ring only, okay?” lennox said again. He pulled Shadow's hand to pin the ring.

“But this is too expensive!” refute Shadow.

Lennox rubbed for a moment the callous Shadow's palm. He looked at the girl not understanding. “Why are your hands like this?”

“Because before working here, I do any task to be able to live. Become a chef, Cut firewood, or even fish in the sea!” shadow said honestly. He's not lying at all. That's what he did on Chester's training island.

“Hah! How horrifying. How can anyone hand a rough job to a pretty girl?” lennox. Shadow just smiled at him.

“From now on you don't have to work rough anymore. Later, after marrying me, you will become a very respected Lady of the House. I will give you enough servants who can do all the menial work you mentioned earlier!” lennox said gnashy.

“thank you, Mister,” Shadow Smile is back expanding, hearing Lennox promise.

They sat there and talked for a while. Then Shadow went into the house and returned to Moreno's room. It was time for his son to wake up.

Lennox went to look for Hugo beamingly. “Ah, there you are apparently,” greet Lennox when he sees his cousin sitting working in the reading room.

“What's up?” ask Hugo for a little chat.

“I propose Shadow!” Lennox.

Hugo coughed at hearing it. “What did you say?” ask Hugo. He wanted to clarify his hearing earlier.

“I proposed to her!” lennox replied again.

Both of Hugo's eyes grew to his forehead which was normallyalicin, so it shriveled a little. “What's the answer?” ask Hugo curiously.

“He said he didn't think I was serious. So, ask for time to think about it,” said Lennox with a beaming face.

“Hahahaa ..” Hugo laughed loudly at Lennox.

“Why are you laughing?” ask Lennox offended.

“Don't you know the meaning of that word? It means he doesn't love you!” obviously Hugo.

“I know. And I gave him time to understand that I seriously loved him. I hope he can see my sincerity. Love is the second thing. You can marry twice without love! Even with coercion and threats!” lennox said sharply.

“Be careful with what you say!” scold Hugo.

“Oh, come on .. I'm your cousin. Do you think we don't know how you married those two women who were your wives? Even when you said Jean fell into the sea, I couldn't believe it at all!” reply Lennox.

Hugo was silent with a face

redden. His jaw was struggling with emotions.

“And I know, the danger for Shadow to be around you! I know your taste in simple girls like Jean and Shadow. I won't let you take away my love!” ketus Lennox's. He left without caring about Hugo who was very upset.

Hugo was still silent on his desk. “Did everyone not believe my story about Jean's death?” muttered. He cupped his head in his hands and looked down at the table.

Hugo became a little anxious. Worried that someone else would know the truth about Jean's murder that night. All you know is the helicopter pilot. And she had already cleaned up the man after telling him to look for the whereabouts of Jean's body around the beaches and islands.

“No! No one knows that. Even Jean's body I buried myself next to the pilot!” his frown tried to calm himself.

“Lennox and other families are just second-guessing. But it could be very dangerous one day. What if Lennox is drunk and says the secret.}

That was the thought of Hugo who raged that afternoon. He felt he had to tighten the surveillance on his own cousin. He made plans to remove Lennox from some important family gatherings, as a warning for his sassiness earlier.

“Do not challenge me, Lennox!”
