Chapter 28 - Purification of Saintess

I did not expect that the forest near my house had such a gripping atmosphere.

Dried trees.

Tree trunk that looks fragile.

The roots of the tree that give off the liquid are black.

Dried leaves that fall off.

As well as the ground that was black with a sticky black liquid on it.

“Ugh~ terrible smell what is this?” I tried to hold back the stench that pierced my nose.

“Welcome to your first assignment as Saintess, Lily-chan~” Ciel said cheerfully.

Ciel seemed to have gotten used to this stinging stench.

“I-This is the duty of a Saintess?” ask me in a cynical tone.

“That's right! Exploring and purifying polluted areas like this is our main obligation as the Saintess of Goddess choice!” reply Ciel with a face full of excitement.

Ugh, how do I purify a region like this?

“HUUUUAAAA!!” behind me was Sia who tried to stop after running fast and Mio who was screaming on her back.

“Puuuuwaaa. puuuuwaa~” Mio tries to calm the contents of her spinning head.

“Ara~ looks very bad, Ciel” said Sia while observing the condition of the forest.

“Niin~ this forest is still at a stage that can be repaired if the source of the main problem is successfully repaired” replied Ciel while taking the leaves that had fallen on the ground.

The blackish-brown leaves that Ciel touched were extremely fragile and shattered as his fingertips held onto the leaf strands.

“Umu! This incident is still not long ago” said Ciel while lifting a brownish yellow leaf covered by a pile of leaves.

“It can still be fixed quickly. Please help me purify this place, Sia. Seeing its vast size will take a long time to purify the entire forest” said Ciel while staring at Sia.

“Eh? But purifying the forest is not my job, replied Sia.

“Niiin~ please help me this time alone~” pinta Ciel while moving her fox ears and tail.

“Uh! It would be very cheating to ask me to use that pose. B-All right! H-Just this time!” reply Sia.

“For Lily-chan. please entertain our upcoming little guest!” after Ciel said those words, Ciel clasped his palms together and placed both hands in front of his chest while bowing down. A golden colored light overflowed from within his body and a golden colored magic circle was visible under his feet.

“Haaah~ what can be made. I'll help you for now. This was the first time there were two Saintesses from two different Goddesses working with each other -“ Sia stopped her words.

“Fufu~ This is interesting! What if there was news of three different Saintess Goddess cooperating with each other? Hmm.. I'm curious about Saintess' other reaction?” continue Sia's words while looking at me.

“Let's do this noble task! Lily-chan!” Sia was now following the moves Ciel made. His entire body was filled with golden-colored magic and the magic circle that appeared under his feet mingled with Ciel's magic circle.

It's just my feelings or Sia's gaze signifies something related to me.

“Lily-chan, please protect us both yes~” Sia waved her hand towards me and continued the purification ritual with Ciel.

“I'm not used to doing purification on the mainland. But, I will help purify the dirty air in this forest” Sia said as she stood beside Ciel.

“Um! That helped me a lot, Sia. This is the first time we do purification together” Ciel brings his body closer to Sia.

“Ciel~”

Ciel and Sia now clasped each other's hands and took out golden magic from their bodies.

Both of their golden magic slowly fused together and spread from their bodies to turn the dried leaves that had fallen into green again. The black-colored soil and the sticky black liquid on it turned into a ground overgrown with green grass and dew crystals that clung to the grass.

Apparently so!

This is what Saintess's purification ritual is called!

I've heard of this ritual before. In the children's book I've read, a Goddess' chosen Saintess is able to turn the barren land into a lush land filled with plants through purification rituals.

This purification ritual makes me a little wonder about one thing.

Why has the human Saintess never performed this ritual before?

I mean, there are some areas of the kingdom where I live that are very barren and make the inhabitants around it very difficult to plant plants.

Why did they not purify the place until it became fertile soil that could be overgrown with foodstuffs?
