Great Swordsman

Great Swordsman
Ch.23 - Mysterious Figure

A while later, when Xu Feng grew tired of watching Gao Gao who was training, a huge laughter suddenly rang out from within the inn.

“Brother Xu, sorry to interrupt your morning.” Huo Teng walked up to him along with the two guards. He smiled as usual and continued “The people from Xue Village have just arrived and are waiting for you at this time. I was originally thinking of bringing them here but since there was one thing, I thought it was better if you just met them.”

“Finally they arrived.”

Xu Feng sighed lightly after hearing it. The thing he had been waiting for the most came as well. Xu Feng then nodded and did not mind what Huo Teng had said, to him such a thing was just a trivial matter.

“Brother Huo, you should not bother coming here just to give me this news.”

Xu Feng looked at the old man in front of him with little appreciation, for him to personally meet him just for the triviality of showing his determination in building a close relationship.

“Hahaha no need to think brother Xu!”

Huo Teng chuckled lightly as he waved his hand. He then accompanied Xu Feng towards Huo Pavilion while explaining that the people from Xue Village were directly traveling back then as well when the envoy arrived and gave them news.

They did not even rest in the slightest during the journey and continued to spur towards Huo Village for one night without stopping.

“Their despair seems to be more than I thought.” Inner Xu Feng when he heard what Huo Teng had said.

“Only, what makes them so desperate? Is it possible because of the same enemy that killed his Patriarch? Or is there anything else?”

Xu Feng inevitably started speculating. But whatever it was, Xu Feng intended to still join the Xue Village. This decision he did not take for granted, he had thought about it carefully for the past night.

He wanted to build up his own strength and influence, only then could he more easily obtain the Spiritual Stone. The helping hands of many people are naturally more efficient than just relying on themselves.

“I hope they are not too disappointing.”

Not too long later they arrived at the Pavilion and entered the main hall. There, Xu Feng saw three figures who were fully wearing gray robes and hoods to hide their bodies and faces.

Only when Huo Teng chased everyone away and left only the five of them, two of the three figures immediately removed the hoods and robes they were wearing, displaying the face of the middle-aged man.

The first middle-aged man had a firm and slightly rough face while the last middle-aged man looked calm and peaceful, both of them were in stark contrast at first glance.

“Sunday senior Xu!!”

They immediately cupped their hands and saluted. They looked at Xu Feng with expressions that were still shocked on their faces.

They had already heard from the envoy that the controlling figure of the Third Stage who received the announcement letter was a young person, only they had not expected that Xu Feng would look that young!

They had originally prepared themselves but Xu Feng's appearance was still beyond their expectations.

“We are sorry for not welcoming you before, there is a special thing that makes us have to be careful not to be caught having left Xue.” Village Xue Lan, the gentle-faced man explained.

“It's okay.”

Xu Feng waved his hand and did not take issue. His gaze was fixed on the figure that was in the middle of the two, the only figure that did not take off his hood and robe.

He did not even make the slightest sound from earlier, the only move he made was to stand cupped in his hands to give Xu Feng a greeting.

“Senior Xu, sorry for my straightforwardness. I'm sure Patriarch Huo Teng has already explained to you completely, I just want to ask if you are really serious about our village?”

Xue Gong, the rough-faced man spoke carefully so as not to offend Xu Feng. He had not known the young man before him so he did not know what his character was like.

“I'm serious about it. Just before deciding, I want to see and know everything about your village first.”

Xu Feng nodded his head and looked at the figure in the middle before continuing, “How can I trust you guys if you guys just hid something from me on our first meeting?”

What Xu Feng meant was obvious, he was a little displeased at the figure that continued to hide behind his hood.

“It.. “ The two glanced at each other and were stunned for a long time. They don't know how to deal with that question.

“Xue Lan, Xue Gong, believe me.. Brother Xu is a trustworthy person.”

Huo Teng understood the reason behind their doubts so he spoke up to help Xu Feng. Hearing what Patriarch Huo said, their doubts disappeared one last time.

Huo Teng was a figure that they respected and was already like the Second Patriarch to them.

After all, he was the figure who always stood at the very front protecting the Xue Village when their Patriarch was gone. Both of them had always believed in Huo Teng's judgment or were at least confident that Huo Teng would not lie to them.

“Then we believe in Patriarch.“ The two glanced at each other and nodded before turning to bow to the figure, “Nona Ding Xiang, now it is up to you.”

“Brother Xu, this concerns Ding Xiang's personal matter and also the wishes of my old friend, the Patriarch of the predecessor of Xue Village.“ Huo Teng let out a helpless sigh and there was a deep sense of pity in his voice.

“Therefore I beg to retreat for a moment, I hope you are not surprised by what you see.”

This time he lowered his voice and whispered in Xu Feng's ear. He only hoped that this young man would not overreact when he saw what the figure looked like.

He patted Xu Feng on the shoulder for a moment before leaving the room together with Xue Gong and Xue Lan.

“I hope you treat my only daughter and adopted daughter of my former best friend well.” Huo Teng whispered his last word and stepped away.

“Patriark Huo, will the young man not be frightened when he sees Miss Ding's face?” Xue Gong whispered lowly when they were outside, there was anxiety on his face.

“I also don't know.” Huo Teng shook his head and spoke wryly, “But I'm sure of the character of the young man, he won't take any actions that might embarrass Ding Xiang.”

“To be honest none of us have ever seen the likeness of Miss Ding because the Patriarch who always hid her looks. I just don't know how bad it looks from the only princess he loves so much that he needs to hide his face from others to that extent??”

Xue Lan was unwilling to glance back with a worried face. It was common knowledge that the reason why Ding Xiang, the only daughter of the Village Patriarch of Xue covered her entire body and face was because it was apparently so ugly.

Although no one had ever seen him aside from the Patriarch, rumors had already spread out from nowhere.

Before his death, the Patriarch had advised them never to make him show face to others, even to them alone except for the circumstances that forced them to do so.

At that last request, the three still kept it up to now.

The patriarch naturally did all that to keep the feelings of Ding Xiang, his beloved daughter, understandable to them.
