THE MYSTERY OF SEDUDO WATERFALL


East Java does have a beautiful nature, so many natural attractions here. One of them is Sedudo waterfall which is at the foot of Mount Wilis. This waterfall has a height of about 105 meters wrapped with rocks and nature that is still beautiful around it. In addition to offering a stunning natural panorama with its cool air, Sedudo waterfall turns out to save a myth that is still believed by the local community. That said, if there is someone who bathes in the pool under this waterfall, he will get a blessing, stay young, rise in rank and can be cured of the disease he suffered. Want to believe it or not it's each other's personal rights, but clearly when the month of Suro arrived, thousands of residents from various regions came to bathe here. Not only from among the community, from among the political elite is also not uncommon to be found in the pool, even until midnight.


This is justified by Lies Nurhayati, Head of Culture and Tourism Office of Nganjuk Regency. According to him, many officials were bathing under the waterfall at midnight. Sedudo Waterfall tourism is indeed a "primadona" for residents of Nganjuk and surrounding areas, either used as a tourist attraction or for rituals. Not only in the month of Suro, when Friday night kliwon not a few visitors who come to bathe in this waterfall. Behind its beauty, Sedudo waterfall turns out to have a long history.


In the era of Majapahit Kingdom, this waterfall is often used to wash the stone belonging to King Majapahit and the statue used Prana Prathista ceremony. It is said that Gajah Mada had galvanized his soldiers at the location of this waterfall. A few years later when the Islamic Kingdom began to develop, Sedudo waterfall was once used as a bathing place Ki Ageng Ngaliman, a spreader of Islam in the Nganjuk area. Therefore, every month Suro always held the ritual Bathing Sedudo which began with a dance by six long-haired virgin dancers.
