"Where's the cake?" Ihsan asked at dinner that night. He wants to taste my cake.
And, fortunately, I made two pans. For the candle-mounted birthday cake, I purposely used a small size baking sheet, a special cake for Reza. A cake with a baking sheet is large enough to be cut and eaten together. "Please spend it" I said after removing the cake from the fridge to speed up the chocolate melt to harden.
"So, is there a result of your trip to Bogor, son?" ask mom.
Reza. "Nothing, Bund," he said. "Recording from Nara's camera that the police seized there was no clue. The tape died after the camera fell. There was only Nara and Salsya. No one else was caught on camera."
I cleared my throat a little, then asked, "That day you went to Salsya's funeral?"
He nodded. "So, Honey. But nil too. The guard of the tomb said they had never seen any pilgrims who had come there. Even if." He paused for a moment to drink a few sips of water. "I also had time to go to the orphanage, want to ask Bu Nurul, maybe there is something he knows about Salsya. Nihil. Nicholas is the same, he knows nothing. The only person closest to Salsya, Kayla, is not home. None of his neighbors knew where he was going. Bun- tu street."
"Maybe he has moved to Jakarta as well" Ihsan said. "I used to see him around the Orchid Garden."
I was stunned, a little surprised. "Seriously? Is she here?" I said reflex. "KOK...?"
Everyone is staring at me. "Why?" ask mom. "What if he's here? Where do you think he's going?"
Fix, I got nervous and a little misbehaved. "No, kok. I mean, um, maybe he's having some business here. It could be, right?"
"Darling?" The special look of the investigator emanated from my mother's eyes. "What's wrong with Kayla? You covered something up?"
I shook my head, but I haven't had time to tell Ihsan to interrupt first, "Didn't Kayla do it? He killed Salsya?"
I was silent for a moment, confused. But I'm still trying to dodge, "Where is possible," I said. "They are good friends, even like a real sister. There's no way Kayla did it."
"Continue, you mean your astonished attitude earlier, what? Where do you think he's going?"
My mother, when she played instinct, she made it difficult for me to evade. "Emm. e. anu, he said he was going to New York. Maybe he's been back to Indonesia, yeah."
Ihsan shook her head slowly. "There's something strange" he said. "Let's tell the cops-"
"Goddess...." I'm hooked.
"Why? There's a chance that the killer-"
"But, honey," Reza said, "our problems have something to do with the murder."
"I knew. But we just need the original footage Aarin saved, right? Not trying to prove who killed Salsya. Please, me and my kids are alive. Be thankful that our lives are not lost. So, please, stop looking for the culprit. Can, right?"
Ihsan. "How do we find the original footage if we don't know who recorded it? I checked Aarin's phone and laptop, but nothing. There is no original recording. He also doesn't want to admit anything. If it wasn't for you, I'd have reported him to the police."
I take a deep breath and try to calm down and think clearly. "Look," I said, "we're looking for Kayla. No matter how long it is, don't be linked to a murder case. Maybe he knows something."
"You got the contacts?"
"Whatsapp is off, Bund."
"I usually chat via messenger. But he doesn't seem to want to be disturbed anymore. My account is blocked."
"Well," Ihsan nodded softly, "if he is not searchable, we make him come here. Hmm?"
We throw each other a look. "How?"
"We make flyers and contests with prizes: a few million in return for bringing them here. And then I'll ask Joe to block Kayla's access to the airport and the port. He won't be able to go outside the island, let alone out of the country."
Mother shakes. "Repot, yes," he commented. "What if the results are nil as well? Like Kayla won't admit to anything?"
"Reza will keep trying, Bund. Because with just that evidence Nara won't doubt our marriage anymore. Reza doesn't want a divorce, nor does she want a remarriage."
Yep, Ihsan also shook her head. "The two of you are the same - both complicated!"
"Well how else? The remarriage only made Nara not doubt our marriage anymore. But not with his trust in me. He'll still doubt."
Feeling insinuated, I also cleared my throat. "Eat him so the husband don't like to lie. That's consequently. Not good, is it?"
Ew!
Gratitude, delicious, right, backslidden? Nara resisted.
