Chapter 1 excerpt
VROOOM...
The sound of a car roaring into the church where Ezra and Zefanya performed the blessing of marriage. Zevanya panicked, he was looking for Ezra but the man was no longer beside him. Where's she? The car was approaching them. Nah! The car was headed not towards them but came towards Zefanya.
The movement of the car is like a movie that plays slow motion. His body was terrified and wanted to save itself, but his entire body was stiff, unable to move. No matter how hard Zephanya tried, as if there was a heavy object piercing him. He can't go anywhere. Though the car kept approaching, fear ambushed him.
"DARK!" she panicked, hoping her husband would come and save her. Cold sweat dripped from Zefanya as she realized that coming out of her mouth was more akin to a squeak. How could Ezra hear it. Zephaniah's eyes began to move wildly, looking for Ezra's figure. It is not usual for Ezra to leave himself alone.
TIIIN!!!
CKIIIIIT!!!
The sound of car horns hurts the ears and the squeaking sound of car tires rubbing against the hard floor deafen. The car stopped just right in front of Zefanya's nose, her body not spaced with that brash car. Zefanya wondered, how could no one protest against the driver. It's church! And not the highway.
"You can't be with Ezra anymore, Zie." a man's heavy voice echoed in the church. Zephaniah wavered and looked around, when he realized that he was not in the church. This place feels foreign to Zefanya and there is no one around. No bouquets and invited guests will witness her wedding to Ezra. And where are they all? Aunty Emma and Gabriella are not. And the sad thing is that Ezra doesn't exist either.
Suddenly Zefanya tired. His eyes and body felt weak and powerless. He fell in a large room and the stranger closed his eyes and hugged himself.
SLAPS!
The terrifying figure appeared again, standing between the two of them. "You can't unite." the voice resonated, making Zefanya tremble. The young woman was silent in her place, seeing how the monstrous figure had covered her beloved male body with her body that was much larger than Ezra's. And suddenly the figure disappeared with his Ezra.
Zefanya back alone, slumped and exhausted. Trying to strengthen his heart but his body was limp helpless. There's no power. He's outmatched. Realizing that Ezra could no longer be his, Zefanya's shoulders trembled and began to weep for her fate. In the depths of his heart, he wished that this was all just a nightmare. And it's gonna be over soon.
"Ezra, this is just a dream, right? When I wake up, I can still be with you, right?" lirih Zefanya. Tears melt on his cheeks. Zeus, lover, husband, love in Zephaniah's life. The only person who has always been in his future plans, now they can no longer love each other. Can't!
When his consciousness recovered, Zefanya realized that he was in a room with walls with soft wallpaper. There are couches and tables to receive guests near the entrance. Then a pantry with a minimalist design in the corner of the room. This place felt much more comfortable than the dark room in his dream.
Slowly - Zefanya's breathing field began to be regular, her heartbeat was much calmer. He breathed a sigh of relief.
"Good morning, Mrs Halley. How's my most beautiful patient doing?"
"Good morning, Doctor Sandra. I'm fine." Zefanya did not turn her head, she stared at the window of the room that showed the garden outside. Colorful flowers and green leaves - leaves make his heart feel cool and calm.
Zefanya's heartbeats echoed in her own eardrums, she was rummaging through her anxious hands. He lowered his head as deeply as possible so as not to meet Ezra's eyes. His ears heard the sound of approaching steps.
'Please, stay away from me. We can no longer love each other.'
Ughhhh! Zefanya's heart feels like direm.as - rem.as so hear the voice of the person who so missed him.
"Don't touch me."
"Don't touch me."
"Stay away from me, Ez."
His head closed his mouth tightly, tightly, repeatedly opening his eyes. It is hard to resist the emotions that force out in the form of teardrops that have now gathered in the corner of his eyes. If only he could have turned into the invisible of the moment.
'Don't cry. No cry. It's for the good of everyone, especially Ezra. He did not want them to get deeper into the pit of sin.'
Meanwhile, Ezra looked at him with a stirring emotion. His eyes look hopeful. For months his wife was unconscious, while he could only wait and pray for a miracle. Waiting for the moment where his soulmate woke up and came back to say his name. Her heart breaks when Zefanya does not recognize herself on the first day she awakens from a coma.
And today, Dr. Sandra told him that Zefanya could already name the people in the photo, including him.
Unfortunately, the reaction was not up to his expectations. Ezra looked inside - in the woman who always managed to make her heart fall in love every time they met. His arrival this morning wanted to see for himself that his wife, in much better shape. Moreover, he wanted to make sure that Zefanya really remembered herself, Ezra Halley.
Realizing her woman was trembling, Ezra got closer. "You're okay, what?" his hands gently stroked Zefanya's head.
Ezra's worried tone and gentle touch made Zefanya go awry. He clenched his hand. "Can I have a medicine?" tanyanya panic.
"Medicine?" Ezra frowned, his eyes looking at the small bottle on the wooden table next to Zefanya's bed. "This?" Ezra lifted the bottle and showed it to Zefanya.
His Zefanya grabbed him quickly, opening the lid in a hurry. Prepare to pour the drug granules inside. But Doctor Sandra's hand held Zefanya to take the drug.
"Medicine doesn't always solve your problems. Try to temper your emotions" said Dr. Sandra gently.
Then the middle-aged doctor immediately gave Zefanya instructions to regulate her breathing when the panic attack struck. Zefanya tried to follow the instructions and succeeded, slowly the tremor disappeared. Then the beautiful woman leaned her back against the bed rest and closed her eyes. Wishing Ezra pity and letting him rest.
"What happened to my wife, Doc?" Ezra asked confusedly.
"It's okay. That's a normal reaction. He's adapting. Old and new memories overlap each other. Don't worry, Sir. We will help him to recover his physical and mental condition" said Doctor Sandra, trying to calm Ezra down.
The doctor was moved every time he remembered how much Ezra loved Zefanya. Not only himself but the rest of the hospital knows how a handsome, famous and super busy CEO chose to spend his day in the hospital. Not sleeping for days accompanying his beloved wife who is in a coma.
Dr. Sandra asked Zefanya a few questions and added notes in her special patient's health journal. Zefanya answered those questions more calmly and clearly. The doctor was satisfied. "If your condition continues this way, you can immediately walk in the park and go home, Madam."
A moment when Zefanya was stunned, then she shook her head. "I don't want to go home." she said.
Zefanya's words made Ezra short of breath. The moment Zefanya returned to the house she was so waiting for, it turned out that his wife did not want to return home. With all the pain in her heart, Ezra forced herself to speak without emotion. "Why, Ma moitie? Is there anything sick and uncomfortable?" This time the man sat on the bed next to Zephaniah.
Unknowingly, his Zefanya tiptoed and shifted her position. The fragrance of Ezra's body thrusts into Zephaniah's sense of smell, making him have to refrain from hugging his beloved husband.
"Ma moitie, I'm waiting for you.... " Ezra watched Zefanya's face closely, his eyes began to glaze over as Zefanya closed her eyes again. Don't want to look at him. "Ma moitie, tell me the truth. What's weighing on your mind?" Next to Ezra was stretched out, rubbing Zephaniah's cheeks that looked slightly sunken. After the coma his weight dropped a lot.
"We can't be together anymore."
