Chapter 15 -- Were You Fired?

There is a small opening in front of the apartment door that is not tightly closed. Toni stood in front of the door and her forehead creased. "Eliana." call him slowly.

Toni slowly pulled the door handle, remembering - remember, don't - don't forget to close the door when leaving the apartment.

Toni is very confident that she has locked it well. He was not the kind of careless person who carelessly left something behind. Always double check before leaving the apartment.

No one was in the apartment when Toni came in. The room is all dark. No lights on. Looks like Eliana hasn't come home yet.

As Toni recalls, a coffee shop waitress conveyed a message from Eliana that Toni did not need to pick her up at the stop because Eliana had little business elsewhere.

The main door of the apartment and the door to Eliana's room open? Eliana should have gone home, but why aren't the lights on? What the hell is he doing?

Toni turned on the lights one by one while glancing across their modest apartment room. Then, he walked silently towards Eliana's room.

Toni knocked on the door and called to Eliana in a soft voice. There was only light from the sleeping lights in Eliana's room. Toni peeked inside, dim. Is he sleeping? Or sick?

As he asked, Toni slowly entered into Eliana's room. He could see the woman lying on her bed.

"Excuse me, I'm in" Toni said as she opened the door wider.

The man approached. For a moment he looked at Eliana's face. It's not very clear, but Toni knows Eliana's not sleeping. He just closed his eyes and pretended to sleep. What happened to Eliana today?

Toni asked more and more, then she put her hand on Eliana's forehead. The temperature is normal, not hot.

"You sick?" asked Tony with a confused face. He felt something was different with Eliana today.

Eliana shook her head, her eyes still closed.

Toni's large, warm hands made Eliana half-dead withstanding the cries. He did not dare to open his eyes, afraid that something would melt and come down from his eyes.

Why is everyone taking such a bad view of Tony? Rarely are people willing to be open-minded and look positively about them. Tony is not a criminal. Eliana could sense that the man was a good person. The man can be so gentle, even always repaying every kindness Eliana did to him.

"Eliana, I'm making dinner. Yea?" ask Tony again.

"You crying?"

"I'm just tired, I'm just going to sleep." Eliana replied in a soft voice. His eyes remained closed and acted like people were exhausted.

Toni sighed. He was trying to understand, Eliana was not wanting to be disturbed. His hand wiped the tears of Eliana. Holding back her curiosity, she pulled out a blanket to cover Eliana's body.

"Have a nice dream" said Toni. Then she stood up and left Eliana, giving her space to herself.

'This is better. Toni doesn't need to know so she doesn't feel guilty.'

"Toni, I'm leaving first." said Eliana.

Hey, Eliana? You didn't have breakfast?" toni asked astonished to see Eliana was well dressed and standing by the exit.

"Wait a minute. The food is ripe. Bring it for breakfast. Why rush anyway?" toni's orders to Eliana.

His hands deftly took out a lunch box and put down a slice of potato stir-fried meat, a few pieces of fruit and two sandwiches. Don't forget Toni filled a bottle of fresh su-su for Eliana.

"Not bother, Toni. Just prepare for yourself. I'll have breakfast with Mr. Peterson."
