"You-" Mr. Peterson stared furiously at Alex. He opened and closed his mouth, "Tiffany... "
Due to his shock, the Grandpa could not utter a single sentence in its entirety.
Alex clenched his hands and braced his heart to add to the story. "Yes. Tiffany and I had a one night stand." Then he turned to look at Toni with a look full of regret. "I'm sorry, Toni. But I've admitted it to you, even before the amnesia."
"LACK OF TEACHING!"
BRACKET!
Mr. Peterson hit the chessboard before him as hard as he could. His emotions overflowed, his chest rising up and down rapidly. If only he was young, Alex would have been beaten up by him.
"Grandpa!"
"Mr Peterson!"
John and Toni stood up quickly, they were worried Mr. Peterson was collapsing from being too angry. John's face was slightly pale, a mixture of worry and shock. John never thought Alex and Tiffany would go that far. The young master seemed to dislike both Alex and Tiffany.
Another John, another with Toni. His reaction was completely unexpected. Call him 'crazy', because the only person who is happy to hear Alex's confession is himself. Not one bit of Alex's story makes him angry, suddenly his eyes like open. It was like seeing a bright spot on the other end.
Memory loss makes Toni forget many events, as hard as she tried to remember, her brain does not want to follow her wishes. That memory never returned everything completely.
He can only remember an event when someone shows a photo and retells the incident before memory loss. Or when he meets someone, he will remember faces and names but the memory among them is empty. The rest he just rely on his instincts and logic to judge one's honesty.
"Why did you do it?" asked Mr. Peterson at last, his voice sounding disappointed.
Alex took in his annoyed breath and replied in a high tone. "Because of my brother, Anthony is always number one. And I'm just a stunt double."
Mr. Peterson was flabbergasted to see the fire in Alex's eyes. He can feel Alex's hatred for Toni.
"Will Grandpa look for me like Grandpa looking for Anthony if I disappear?" alex asked with a cynical smile. "Never! Grandpa only looked for me only when he needed me to replace his vacant position at that time."
Toni was stunned, so Alex had been jealous of her all this time? Though silent - silent he envies Alex who can freely have fun out there, while he must live by carrying the name Peterson. Life is so funny sometimes. Often others just want to be in a position that we have always considered unpleasant.
"During this time, I tried twice as hard as him, I also learned twice as diligently from him. But still he is the heir. And I'm the loser." said Alex again. His voice sounded bitter.
(He is the heir. I'm loser.)
"What does the company have to do with Tiffany? You know that she's your sister's future wife?" furious Mr. Peterson.
"Because she's Anthony's future wife, then I have to get her. Whatever Anthony has, I want it too." Alex shrugged his shoulders. "And as it turns out, she is easy to get" Alex said with a belittling laugh.
"So you want all Anthony's?" ask Mr. Peterson not to believe it.
"Yes. And back then, I wanted her to disappear from my life." Alex is honest.
John gasped, his eyes narrowed. His mind goes back to the events where Toni disappeared, how the investigation always ended in a dead end. There was no CCTV, not even Toni's cell phone GPS just stopped at the office. The police found nothing.
If only Mr. Peterson had not been cared for by Eliana in St. Paul, it's possible that his young master has not been found to this day. Unknowingly, John looked at Alex with a probing gaze.
Noticing John's gaze, Alex said.
"You're right, John. I let Anthony disappear."
"ALEXI!" call Mr. Peterson beaver. His voice was blaring but also trembling. The answer pointed to Alex. "I don't want to see you again, get out of Peterson!"
In a time of tension where Mr. Peterson rose in blood, when John was still pensive and struggling with his mind to unite the puzzle of the case of the disappearance of Toni. And also, Alex is prepared to accept the consequences for his actions. Toni was laughing. His laughter sounded relieved as if it was regardless of the burden. Until everyone looks at him.
John gawking. An event that usually requires months of preparation, now has to be done in seventy-two hours. His eyes glanced at the watch that was coiled around his wrist, trying to calculate the time it would take to prepare it.
"Are you crazy, Toni?" hiss Mr. Peterson.
"I am." A smile of relief flashed on Toni's face. "Isn't Alex's confession the solution we're looking for Grandpa? Now I can get away from Tiffany."
Alex breathed a sigh of relief. "So, you got what I mean?" He stood up and prepared to leave the room. The responsibility is done now, he just wants to clear up his problems with Toni. True said Eliana, even though Toni and herself are brothers.
Toni nodded steadily. "yeah. Thank you by the way."
"Wait, Alex." Mr. Peterson didn't just let go of his granddaughter. He squinted. "Why did you finally decide to admit it to us?"
"Because Eliana... "
"Whataaa?" ask Mr. Peterson and Toni at the same time.
John listened carefully, he recorded every micro of Alex's expression. Don't want to miss anymore. He has been fooled by Alex.
"Because I like Eliana as much as you, more than you like. L loved her. My feelings are different from when I wanted to take Tiff from Toni."
John and Mr. Peterson held their eyes, while Toni held her breath and tried to understand Alex. Anyway, Alex is trying to be honest. He waited for Alex to continue.
"I learned a lot from him. She didn't blame me when I said I loved her, my sister's own boyfriend. In his eyes I am not a loser. Besides, I don't want to see him sad. If he doesn't want to be with you, I hope it's because he doesn't love you. Not because of Tiffany or anyone else."
Alex paused for a moment and looked at Toni with a stupor - really. Then he said. "Isn't it better for two people to be happy than three people to be sad?" he said, patting Toni on the shoulder.
"Wait, Mr. Alex. Did Miss Tiffany do it out of love?" asked John curiously.
There is something strange about Alex's story. If from Alex's side, obviously the motive is envy, then how on the part of women. Normally women have s-e-k-s relationships on the basis of liking.
And, if Tiffany likes Alex. Why won't she cancel the wedding? Complicated!
"He's addicted."
"What?"
"Uhm, yeah.. arguably hyper-s-e-k-s."
"WHAT?!" exclaim John, Grandpa and Toni together.
And then, Alex recounts events by events that are known by him. This is a confession about the wrongdoing he committed against Toni and her amnesia.
