Chapter 28 - Pretend Everything Is Fine

Toni feels the atmosphere in the apartment environment is a little different than before. Some people were seen clustered and whispering when they met him in the apartment lobby.

"Eh? Good night, Toni." said one of them as Toni was about to walk past them. His tone was nervous, their elbows nudging each other.

"Night." replied Toni while slowing her pace. His forehead wrinkled to see what their strange behavior was. Toni could feel the unusual glare of her eyes as they looked at her.

"Pssst... , come on." whispered the others. He smiled awkwardly as he clenched his friend's arm.

"I'm sorry, Toni." said another.

"Please." Toni nodded politely with a smile. And the group hurried away, while being seen whispering to each other.

'What's wrong?'

A bad feeling slipped into Toni's heart. The experience of being transported from one hospital to another, rejected and humiliated, makes Toni very sensitive to these attitudes.

Toni sighed. What he can do, he doesn't know what they're talking about. And they didn't do anything to him. Nothing to do with them.

It was night after all, Eliana must have been waiting for him. Every day the distance from Rocktown to Lake Wood is taken by Toni to be able to see Eliana even if only for an instant. At least he could see the woman he loved the morning before leaving and the night before going to bed.

"Boss gave me a nice cake. He said I could take him home for you. Wait a minute, I'll cut it for you. You must love it." Toni said excitedly.

Hope Eliana will love the food she brings. Unfortunately, reality is often different from what is expected. Toni could see Eliana stunned. There was a worried glint in her female eye bead. And it seemed, Eliana was less excited when she approached him.

Toni tilted her face, could it be that Eliana was already sleepy? He glanced at the wall clock, only eight o'clock passed. Today he finished everything early because Grandpa was feeling tired and wanted to rest soon.

Never mind, Eliana had already come out of her room and was now in front of Toni. Unwilling to overthink, Toni turned her body, rushed to cut the cheese cake and placed it on a small plate. He couldn't wait to sit down and talk to Eliana.

Toni kissed Eliana's forehead as an expression of her affection and longing for the woman.

At that moment, Toni realizes that there is something Eliana is hiding. Although her mouth was smiling, but Eliana's eyes could not imply worry. And the haggard face was not sleepy but something was being thought of.

"Drink first." said Toni.

"What's wrong? You don't like the cake?" ask Toni. He chooses light-hearted questions to open up the conversation while provoking Eliana to speak.

"I was waiting for you, but you didn't come until I was starving."

Huh huh? Eliana's tone of voice sounded spoiled, her lips piercing. Funny and adorable. Where did the worried expression and pale face disappear? Toni was really surprised.

Cheese cake dishes have moved from the table to the top of Toni's large palm.

"Come on. I want to eat with you, Toni." this time Eliana said while shaking Toni's burly arm. Her style was like a child whining, rarely Eliana behaved like this.

Toni is back at a crossroads, her determination to be honest again fades along with the return of Eliana's attitude. It was clear that Eliana did not want to discuss what had happened to her just now.

'Every day of the past I can't remember worries me about losing you, Eliana. I'm sorry I'm too cowardly to be honest.' ~Toni~

Toni smiles. "Well, do you want to be fed?"

Eliana nodded her head.

And tonight, the two of them are the same - the same decided to behave as if all is well - fine. Let it all be like this, though in the end they may be the same - just as heartbroken.
