A jeep car was streaking across the muddy road. His village had just been rained down by heavy rain. The news of Cindy's death seemed to make the whole village mourn, or ... The fear?
The streets looked deserted, some houses also looked tightly closed. Even as far as they were driving, not a single human had been seen outside.
"Where's this guy going, huh? Really lonely!" tukas Gio while focusing on driving.
"Maybe it rains, so lazy out of the house," said Abi casually. Adi just silently stared at the scene outside the window.
"Eh, that! Cindy's house, right?" tanya Adi pointed at a house with a white flag in front.
"Ah, yes. We ... Slip over there?" gio asked for their agreement. Adi and Abi looked at each other shortly nodding. The car turned towards the yellow painted house. From a distance there were only a few people in the house.
"Excuse me." Adi went into the house. Saying condolences to Cindy's parents. Their arrival actually made Cindy's mother's cries explode. Apparently only a few people came to worship. People were terrified by news of Cindy's death. It was natural, but it would be better, as the villagers were also present at his funeral.
"How was the beginning, sir?" adi asked Cindy's father who was sitting on the porch seat. Cindy's mother continues to roar because of the death of her only child.
"Cindy always comes home late in the afternoon. Because at school every day there are additional lessons. I couldn't pick him up yesterday. Till night, Cindy hasn't come home yet. We finally called the police. Not long, Cindy found. But it's dead. He fell by the river." Undeniably the most painful thing about loss is the person closest to us who leaves this world for good. And of course, no one feels fine if the closest person dies.
Cindy's mother's screams roared. He was hysterical. His emotions are not under control. Cindy's father paused to appease his wife. Soon the girl's body will be buried. Abi, Gio and Adi decide to attend the funeral until it's over.
The distance between the tomb and the village is quite far. Cindy's body was taken in a hearse. Only the family and the closest neighbors would take him to his final resting place.
Flowers were spread across, indicating the tomb was still new. An umbrella stuck in Cindy's headstone. This tradition applies to people who have just died.
Tears flooded Cindy's grave again. Andrew also appeared to come to the funeral. He stood near Abhimanyu in a shirt suit and black glasses against his nose.
"Back started, yeah." Andrew's words made Abi and Adi look over. He looked at the man with a confused and suspicious look.
"What do you mean?" ask Abi.
"Murder with this motive happened 7 years ago. Maybe the killer's back, right?"
"Homicide? Wait, if it's not wrong, the police say Cindy slipped in the river because it rained last night. His blood vessel broke. Then nobody knows. So just as Cindy met all too late," said Gio trying to pull back the red thread of what he heard and read.
"It's not an accident but murder! There's one thing in common. I'm sure the killer's the same person."
"What's the same, sir?"
"This keychain!" point Andrew to a worn photo he took out of his jacket pocket.
"Why are these key chains the same?"
"You forgot? That 7 years ago there were three murders in this village?" ask Andrew to Abhimanyu.
"7 years ago? Masa, anyway? Bi?" tanya Gio nudged Abhimanyu who was standing beside him.
Abhimanyu recalled the thing that the man meant. Murder 7 years ago? The memory of his brain was pulled back far back. 7 years ago there was once a murder of 3 SD children. He doesn't understand if there's a keychain like the one in the photo.
"How do you know?" ask Abi back.
"Because I'm the one taking care of the case" Andrew said blankly to the tomb.
______
The cafe opens during the day. Though Ridwan, Emil, and Bhishma have come since morning. They were grateful that Abi asked them to open the cafe when the sun was already rising higher. At least they had time to clear the place up more. Last night's work is still piling up, now it's done. The plates and glasses are clean in place. The floor is already covered. And the yard was already clean of dry leaves. Last night's rain was pretty big. The mango tree in front of the cafe fell. Lucky not to hit the window. Though the distance is pretty close.
Abi is still thinking about Cindy's death and Andrew's words. He was sure Andrew must have had a legal basis, why did he say that. And judging by the way he spoke, there were no lies in his words.
"Wan," call Abi to Ridwan who will make customer's order toast. "Yes, Bang?"
"Do you know anything about Mr Andrew?"
"Well, you mean know which one?"
"Everything. Especially about the murders 7 years ago. You remember, Wan? Is he the cop who took care of the case? Which murder is it, Wan?"
"Murder 7 years ago?" Ridwan was seen staring at the ceiling, his mind glaring far away. "Oh yes! Ada, Bang. You remember, the mysterious death of the SD kid back then, right?"
"Which SD kid?"
"That's Diva, Chandra and Amel. They died in the last month. Your brother doesn't know?!" ask Ridwan astonished.
Naturally Abhimanyu did not know, because his parents had severely limited his playing environment. After all, the victim's house is quite far from Abi's house. The case was closed a week after the body of Amel, the last victim, was found. Issues circulating, they're child abductees. The killer has not been caught because he is thought to have moved out of town.
Since then there has been no news of strange deaths in the village. The village is safe and peaceful as before.
_____
"Who are they?" ask Adi who is starting to understand who the locals and immigrants are. Abhimanyu glanced at the 4 people earlier, he scolded both his shoulders a sign of not knowing. "I only know Mr. Karso. He's the principal at the village's end primary school" Abi said, wiping a glass.
"The school that there was a murder tragedy 7 years ago, Bi?"
Abi stopped wiping the glass. And just realized that the school he just mentioned was the place of the murder victim 7 years ago. Because that's the only primary school in this village.
"Well, pretty too." Gio snatched while staring at the two girls sitting in the corner of the cafe. Mr. Karso brought 3 honorary teachers who will teach at his school. It was the first day they came to the village. The village still lacks medical and teaching staff. Often the city people who teach in this village will only survive for a little while. Then replaced by new people. So next. So Abi was not surprised to see Mr. Karso bring a new teacher.
Surprisingly, one of the women wearing a maroon jacket continued to pay attention to Abi. Sometimes even caught the middle of stealing a look at Abhimanyu.
"Bi ... How's ellea?"
"What?" sahut Abi relax.
"Your relationship! Put on nanya again!" hardik Gio who also realized that Abi had been watching the teacher from that city.
"No idea. Ellea had no news at all. He said his mother was sick. Keep moving abroad for treatment."
"So hang dong?"
Abi just laughed bitterly. He hadn't thought about Ellea in a long time. Ellea already had a life there. Abi only hopes Ellea finds another happiness in her new place.
"If so, that pepet is a girl! Beautiful, Bi!" whispered Gio was referring to the girl that Abi had seen since.
There was something strange about the woman's look at him. Not a feeling of liking or fanciful like most people, but ... I don't know. Abi himself hesitated and did not dare to assume.
Mr. Karso came closer to the barista table. Greeting Abhimanyu and Gio in a friendly manner. He also told me about three new teachers he had just picked up from the station. "They came from Jakarta. Well, our village does still need a lot of teachers." Mr. Karso who already looks old is still the spirit of living his profession. He is famous as an exemplary teacher until now served as the principal.
_____
"Yash! Lu pesen what?" ask the girl who is now at the barista table with the man in the same uniform. "Black coffe aja" cried one of the men who was still sitting in a chair with his partner.
"Sin?"
"Capucino, Bill."
The girl then turned to Abhimanyu as a barista cafe. "Mas, black coffee one, capucinnya two, yes." A smile on his lips.
"Oh, well, mba. Please wait a minute."
"Eum, where's the toilet, huh?" the girl asked slightly whispering towards Abhimanyu.
"End there, mba. Just be straight."
Nabila looked in the direction Abi pointed. Then nod. He immediately rushed to the toilet.
The bell hung on the door of the cafe rang. The door is closed. Abi took a quick glance and found a figure approaching and standing in front of his barista table. A middle-aged mother now Tenga stared softly at Emil. Abi who did see it just pretended not to see. It was just that the presence of the figure did indeed disturb his calmness. Abi was a little nervous and stared at the figure several times.
Nabila had just come out of the toilet, he patted her sleeve which was slightly wet because it splashed water when he washed his hands. While looking down as he remained focused on his sleeves, he drew closer to the barista table again. "Mas, ask for tissue dong," pinta Nabila.
"Oh tissue? Here, mba." Abi thrust out a few pieces of tissue. When Nabil grabbed her, the two girls looked at the figure of the mother who was still standing in front of the barista table, more precisely standing in front of him. All over the woman's body was wet, because the cafe floor was seen pooling water where she stood. His body is drawing water. His clothes were wet and there were many tears in some places. His feet are dirty with mud. His long hair was unraveling dripping with water that was never ending. His eyes continued to stare at the man who was near Abhimanyu, Emil.
Abhimanyu who found the girl silent then realized one thing. If he could see that figure too. "Eum, uh?"
When I looked, a little surprised. "Eh why, Mas?"
"Eum, why?" ask Abhimanyu.
"This mother misses her child," pointed Nabila to the figure of Emil's mother. Abhimanyu glared at the speech of the girl in front of him. "I'm sure you're squirming him too, right?" ask Nabila again.
"Eum, huum," said Abi confused what to comment. He was quite surprised and did not expect that anyone else would see what he saw.
"My coffee's not yet, is it?"
"Eh, already, mba. I'll be back at the table soon." Abi who just finished making the last coffee then a little nervous, took a tray to deliver to the table Nabila.
"Eh, Mum. Don't forget the floor mop. Something will slip, danger." Nabila immediately returned to his desk, leaving Abi's face increasingly confused.
