The Pledge of the Ingkar

The Pledge of the Ingkar
IYI 70'S

Currently, Liam and his parents are in the living room after Zoya leaves for her gallery. Rian was busy with the business magazine in his hands because even though the company had been officially taken over by the son, it did not mean that the middle-aged man would stop following the developments out there.

Different things were felt by Wulan who continued to observe Liam. There were many things that struggled in his mind regarding his only son. Especially after these few days Wulan somehow always dreamed something bad about William.

“Is there a problem, Ma? Looks like something's been bothering Mama.” Liam could not help but ask. Realize it is right if the mother has paid more attention to him.

Rian also turned and found his wife's cloudy look. Though, it should feel good because of the arrival of Liam and Zoya.

“Liam, Mama wants to know how you feel about Zoya? You mean, can you love her after everything that happened?” ask Wulan carefully. Afraid that the question would offend the son.

“Why did Mama suddenly ask like that?” ask Liam. Sipping tea made by the waiter because his throat suddenly feels dry.

“Liam, Mama just wants the best for your relationship and Zoya going forward. Mama loves you and doesn't want your marriage to be ruined. Especially with Renata's presence back, what if it can make you betray Zoya? Therefore before everything happens, Mama needs to make sure first.”

Liam fell silent and sighed. Fulfilling every word from Wulan. If asked about his feelings, it is undeniable that the man can indeed accept the presence of Zoya even love him.

It's just that Liam's heart is still divided. There was a bit of space that only Renata was filled with as much as Liam tried to forget the girl.

“You have no desire to go back to Renata right, Liam?”

Rian's gaze was seen warning the wife and completely forgot the business magazine she was reading. The man also had the same worries, only that he felt pressuring William was not the right thing. Liam's an adult, he must know what he's doing.

“I'm not done talking.” Wulan coded Rian not to vote. As someone who had lived together for decades, Wulan certainly knew what Rian was going to say. Her husband often defended the son when what Wulan did was also none other for the good of Liam.

William was silent. Although she was eager to refute the mother, Wulan was clearly not going to stop until all of her uneg-unegs were removed. Liam also did not want to trigger a fight.

“William, Mama doesn't want to hear if someday I'll hurt Zoya just for Renata's sake. You know for yourself that Zoya has a big hand in your life? Your recovery from paralysis? While Renata? He disappears when you need someone to encourage him, most importantly he goes to take the money you gave him. You don't want to see yourself destroyed twice by the same person. Just do it, Liam.”

Wulan shook her head. Start comparing between his wife and his son's ex-lover. He also felt sick to see Liam as if he lost his passion since being sentenced to be paralyzed and Renata just left.

A mother wants only the best for her child. Therefore, it was very natural that Wulan felt a little unacceptable when Renata returned.

“How many times should Mama remind you, William? Lest you forget Zoya's merits and become an ungrateful husband. Zoya has been very patient to accompany and take care of you who at that time could not be anything. Prepare all needs including food and clothing intake from you wake up to sleep again. He is also the one who faithfully waits for you through various kinds of therapy and never tired of reminding you to take medicine. Is it all lacking, Liam? You haven't seen his kindness all this time?”

Wulan went back into silence and raised the teacup. Inhale the aroma before bringing the end of the cup close to the mouth and sip slowly. Letting Liam digest everything he said first because what was delivered was still not finished.

“That's not as good as you think, Liam. Because if she was a good girl and loved you, she would always be there no matter what. Not back when you are declared healed. While when you are sick he is not clear where he is. And I'm sure she'll only remember you if she needs you."

What has been thrown away, will not be recovered at all costs. That is what is being emphasized on the son.

“You heard all the advice Mama, Liam?” asked Wulan knowing her son was just silent from now on.

“Remember, Liam. Mama and Papa never taught you to be an ignorant and grateful man. Never be a coward.”

That's enough. Liam can't take it anymore. All the words of his mother seemed to attack him simultaneously and make his ego disturbed. No man likes to be called a coward is ignorant.

“Enough, Ma. I've grown up. Know what will be done. Mama better not interfere too much. Because even though Mama is my mother, this life is still mine. I alone have the right to determine everything,” said Liam with a dead red face.

“Mama just don't want us to take the wrong steps that result in the destruction of your household, Liam,” kilah Wulan.

“I can handle everything myself without the intervention of Mama or anyone. Thanks for the advice. Excuse me for the room first.”

Liam got up and walked quickly to the room. I couldn't see his mother putting on a sad face.

“William,” call Wulan in a soft tone. Of course it didn't make William hear and turn around.

The woman knew her son was an adult and hoped that Liam would not be rash in making a decision.

“I told you not to put too much pressure on Liam. Look now he's upset. Supposedly, we as parents can make Liam feel comfortable and at home while here instead of sparking debate,” said Rian. He who is level-headed must always be able to mediate between his wife and child.

“I've been very careful talking about it. Who wants to make trouble. Indeed you want something bad to happen to our son's wedding if he is not often commemorated?” asked Wulan with a huffed tone. Her husband never defended himself even though he was said to often contain the truth.

“No one wants his son to live in suffering. At least be patient, let Liam think for himself what steps he should take. I'm sure he won't do the things you're afraid of.” Rian patted Wulan on the shoulder, asking the wife to be more heartened and opening their eyes if their son was not a child, all of which still had to be given direction.

“What I did was right. For the good of Liam too,” said Wulan. Feeling what was done all this time was solely for Liam's own future.

“Iya, I know. Just don't push it that way. What you're doing is upsetting Liam. Men have their own ego. So, no matter what you say, you should be able to control it.” Rian said more gently and patiently. Do not want the problem to widen and do not find common ground.

“Till you alone. My hunch is that if something is going to happen, then I should always remind our son and prove myself that there will be nothing bad around us. You know for yourself if a mother's premonition is a lot of right.”

“Do not talk like that. Your hunch is not necessarily proven.”

Wulan sighed. Convincing Rian was as difficult as convincing the son.

“It is precisely because my premonition has not been proven that everything should not be real. If you can't help advising William, at least let me do it myself.”

“No need to discuss. Let's go to the room. Maybe we can get Liam junior to keep arguing.”

Wulan pinched her husband's waist, but did not stop following her husband.
