Behind the Eyes of INDIGO
Papa's Friend's Story

Mr. Aji sighed, actually he felt hard to tell such a bad thing, but he really wanted his daughter to understand what really happened.

Alia focused on looking at her Papa, waiting for a story to be told by her Papa.

Mr. Aji was silent for a moment, after careful thought he finally began to tell stories.

Papa's Story

Papa used to have close friends, very close, we were friends since childhood. His name is Pak Hari, his age is older than Papa, approximately 7 years above Papa, he is like a brother to Papa, because by chance all Papa's brothers are women, Papa's brothers, and only Papa himself is a man.

Mr. Hari was married at the time, and we had rarely met because he was busy working in the fields to provide for his new family.

At the beginning of her marriage, her home life was no problem, she was even blessed with 3 children in a short time, but the economic situation was very lacking, there was always a trial that befell, he said, such as crop failure and her gardening results are not enough to cover the needs.

At that time Papa went out of town and came home after a few years.

About 5 years later we met again, and it turns out he was divorced with his wife.

At first their domestic life was very good, but because Mr. Hari could not continue to accept with the economic situation that was very down, he finally decided to go to a mountain.

He met a mountain guard's grandfather and complained about the problem he was facing. The old grandfather told Mr. Hari that he could get his wealth quickly just by making a pilgrimage to the tomb at the top of the mountain.

Because Mr. Hari felt that he had no other way, he finally decided to go to the mountain. Before leaving, Mr. Hari said goodbye to his wife to work out of the city, he hugged his first and second children aged 4 years and 2 years. After that, he also kissed the forehead of his youngest child who was only a few months old. The three sons of Mr. Day were all men.

After saying goodbye to his son and wife, Pak Hari immediately left. He returned to the guard's grandfather with a rooster that was not too old. That was one of the conditions requested by the guard's grandfather.

After being given supplies by the guard's grandfather, Mr. Hari also began to climb the mountain. At that time, the road to the top of the mountain was still very steep because it was still rarely touched by humans.

The road is still a narrow land attached to the hills and ravines around it, It takes about a day and a night to get to the top because the access road is still very difficult.

Mr. Hari climbed the mountain with a rooster requested by the guard's grandfather.

After reaching the top, he had to confine the chicken nearby. The guard's grandfather asked Hari to fast Pati Geni for 40 days near the tomb on the top of the mountain.

At that time there had not been built a hut or anything there, so there was only a pair of old mausoleums that were not maintained.

Mr. Hari sat under a large tree near the tomb and began his hermitage. He fasted 40 full days and did not go down the mountain for that long, he only drank water from the spring and ate the tubers. After the forty day, the old man came to see Hari, he performed the last ritual of Pak Hari's effort to pray in front of the tomb using Javanese language that is rather difficult to understand by lay people.

After he finished praying, the old man told Pak Hari to slaughter the rooster he was carrying. The old grandfather gave him a small dagger and asked Hari sir to immediately perform the final ritual.

"Hi young man, why did you stop, let's quickly perform the final ritual!" the old man said to Pak Hari.

Mr. Hari quickly slaughtered the chicken and immediately completed the ritual so that he could quickly go home to meet his children at home.

As soon as Pak Hari scratched the sharp dagger on his chicken neck, the chicken continued to thrash and make Pak Hari quite difficult, he said, it took quite a long time until the chicken was completely dead and did not move anymore.

After the chicken was completely dead, Pak Hari gave the chicken to the guard grandfather to take care of.

"Go home young man, after this you will not be in trouble again, and do not forget to make a salutation at your house once until" said the old man.

The old grandfather also said that every 3 months Pak Hari had to come to the top of the mountain and fast for 3 days near the tomb, then held a salutation after arriving home.

Mr. Hari remembered the grandfather's words well, he rushed to go down the mountain and go home because he had missed his children at home, especially his eldest son.

After traveling for 2 days, Pak Hari finally reached home, but he was very surprised to see there were so many people in his house. He ran into the house and found out what was really going on.

Mr. Hari was shocked and speechless when he saw his eldest son lying stiff on the bed and being read by some of his neighbors. His wife was crying in the room while hugging his second and third son.

"My child? my son why? why is he like this?" shouted Mr. Hari, but all the neighbors were silent and speechless.

"Mas Day! you're home!"

Mr. Hari's wife immediately ran over to Mr. Hari while holding his youngest son, he continued to cry while saying "Nanang mas, Nanang...."

Mr. Hari tried to ask his wife exactly what happened to her son.

Mr. Hari's wife immediately said that two days ago his eldest son suddenly cried hysterically, he screamed in pain and continued to hold his neck. His body temperature turned hot and blue, he also saw a red wound on his son's neck, his wife tried to summon a mantri and a baby shaman, but things still remained the same.

"Nanang just kept screaming in pain, he was calling you all the time, until finally this morning mantri said that he could not be helped" explained Pak Hari's wife crying.

Mr. Hari was really devastated, he could not speak anymore, it was appropriate that during the trip he felt very missed his eldest son.

Some residents suggested burying Pak Hari's son immediately, and he only agreed because he did not know what to do. Mr. Hari eventually kept his departure to the mountain a secret on his wife.

The next day suddenly someone came and said he wanted to work with Mr. Hari to cultivate the fields. That person is willing to give any capital to cultivate the field Pak Hari and the results are divided into 2.

It was with pleasure that Mr. Hari immediately accepted the offer, half of the money given he used to make a salute, as instructed by the mountain guard's grandfather.

From that day Mr. Hari returned to work in the fields and stayed at home with his wife and two sons.
