Sand lake is the name of a lake that is around Mount Lawu, the beautiful lake has a story about the origin of the formation of the lake which until now is still a myth that is often told by the people around the lake. Here is the story.
Kyai Pasir and Nyai Pasir are a married couple who live in the forest of Lawu mountain. They took shelter in a house (lodge) in the forest on the eastern slopes of Mount Lawu.
The cottage was made of wood and roofed leaves. With this very simple hut both of them already feel very safe and not afraid of the dangers that befall him, such as the disturbance of wild animals and so on.
Moreover, they have long lived in the forest so that they understand the surrounding environment and can definitely overcome any disturbances that might befall him.
One day Kyai Pasir went to the forest with the intention of planting something in his field, as a livelihood for daily living.
Because of the fields that will be planted with many large trees, Kyai Pasir first cut down several large trees one after another.
Suddenly Kyai Pasir was surprised to find that there was an egg that looked like a chicken egg located under a tree that he was about to cut down. He watched the egg for a moment while asking in his heart what kind of egg he found.
Even though around it does not appear a single poultry animal that usually lays eggs. No longer thinking, Kyai Pasir immediately went home with the egg and was given to his wife.
Kyai Pasir tells Nyai that Sand first found the egg, until he brought it home.
Finally, the couple agreed that the eggs were boiled. After cooking, half of the cooked egg was given to her husband by Nyai Pasir. He ate the egg by Kyai Pasir with ravenous. Then Kyai Pasir left again to the fields to continue the work of cutting down trees and planting crops.
On the way back to the fields, Kyai Pasir still tasted the delights of the eggs he had just eaten. But after arriving at the field, his body felt hot, stiff and very sick.
In this very critical situation Kyai Pasir rolled on the ground, rolling back and forth violently. Magical befall Kyai Pasir. Suddenly his body turned into a huge dragon snake murmured, the sidewalk was terrifying. The dragon serpent rolled here and there without stopping.
Once upon a time, Nyai Pasir who lived in the house and also ate from half the boiled egg, suddenly suffered the same fate as Kyai Pasir. His whole body became sick, stiff and hot instead of playing. Nyai Pasir became confused, ran here and there, not because of what he did.
Because of this suffering, Nyai Pasir finally ran to the field to meet her husband for help. But what was found. Not Kyai Pasir, but a huge and terrifying dragon snake.
Seeing the great dragon snake Nyai Sand was surprised and afraid not to be trapped, but because of the pain he was in getting worse, Nyai Pasir was no longer able to survive and fell to the ground. Nyai Pasir suffered the same supernatural fate as her husband.
As he fell to the ground, his body transformed into a huge dragon snake, cluttering, mincing, his long and pointed teeth were terrifying. The two dragons ended up rolling around here and there, wriggling in the field. Causing the land where the two dragons rolled around to be scattered and huddled as it was being dredged.
The basin is getting wider and deeper, while the two dragons were also getting more powerful and rolled around and suddenly from inside the deep and wide basin of land that gushed water that snatched everywhere.
In an instant, the basin was already filled with water and the Kyai Pasir field turned into a large pond called Telaga. This lake by the local community was later named Telaga Pasir, because this lake occurred due to the actions of Kyai Pasir and Nyai Pasir.
The moral message contained in Central Java folklore above is "Let us not take anything that is not ours and also whatever we find we must return it to its owner because it is not ours."
