The Lady of Marvels

A story from Celtic. The Celtic region had a very large area, which included Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, and England. The story tells the story of King Pwill and Princess Riannon in the kingdom of Difed.

One day the kingdom of Difed had a party in the palace. Pwill sat on his throne and said to all who were present, "After this feast is over I will go to Arberth Hill."

"Sir" said his adviser, "whosoever dares to sit on the hill of Arberth, he shall have one of two things, calamity or wonder."

"I am not afraid of disaster. Instead I will welcome the miracle" replied Pwill.

The party was over, Pwill immediately went to Mount Arberth. He saw farms, plantations, forests, all being land for the Difed people to live up to their lives. Pwill is thrilled to see its inhabitants prosper. "I'm very rich. My kingdom was also very successful. If only there was an empress accompanying me. My life will be happier, "he added.

At that moment, he saw a woman in a hood. He rode a horse very gracefully. Pwill was curious. "Who is it?" muttered. He immediately took the horse and followed it, but the woman sped up the pace of her horse."

"Miss, please stop!" scream Pwill.

"alright. If only you had asked for it from the beginning then it would have been better." replied the woman. The woman then flicked her veil.

"What a beautiful woman" Pwill said, "I've never seen a woman as beautiful as Miss."

"Miss, what brought you here?" ask Pwill.

"I'm here because of you, sir" he replied.

"I'm very flattered by Miss's reply" said Pwill.

"It's an honor to know you" Pinta Pwill said.

"I am Riannon the daughter of Heveydd" she said. "I will marry someone I don't love. It's the master I've wanted since I was a kid" he explained. "I'm here to hear your answer. If you refuse, I will never marry another man" she continued.

"Riannon, if there's another woman for me to choose from, I'll choose you" replied Pwill.

Hearing that answer, Riannon was overjoyed. "Then come to my palace one more month. There will be a feast to unite my kingdom and the Kingdom of Gwal. Don't forget to bring this basket. This is a magic basket," Riannon handed over the basket while whispering his plan to Pwill.

"Alright, I will obey all Miss' orders" Pwill said.

In the appointed month, Pwill and a hundred of his troops went to Heveydd's court. Pwill ordered his troops to wait outside the palace. They will enter after hearing the sound of trumpets.

Pwill entered the palace. He disguised himself as a beggar carrying a basket. Gwal and Riannon forest, ravines. Not a single inhabitant inhabited it, all disappeared.

"Oh my God, what happened to my country?" exciting Pwill.

"It must be Gwal who did it. He has a great grudge against us" said Riannon.

They returned to the palace, but in the palace they did not find a single person. "With one hit we have lost" Pwill said.

"But we can still have each other" said Riannon.

"yes, I'm grateful to still have you" replied Pwill.

For some time, they lived a simple life away from the party. One day Pwill went hunting, Pwill's dogs went into the bush looking for boars. Pwill's chasing his dogs.

Some wild boars ran away, suddenly they stopped and watched the dogs hunting him until Pwill approached. Then the pigs turned and ran away. It happened repeatedly several times. Finally, they reached the fortress he had never seen.

The pigs passed through the fort, the Pwill dogs followed. Pwill could not let his dog just like that, he entered through the fort. Inside the fortress, he found a very clear spring. He then drank heavily. Suddenly he felt someone raise their hand and hold their leg.

Pwill tries to escape from the trap, but his strength is not enough to fight the spell that has been spread by Gwal. Soon the fort disappeared.

Meanwhile, Riannon waited for Pwill's arrival faithfully. Time changed, but her husband did not come. He rode horses and searched all over the city of Difed. However, Pwill was not found. Riannon wept, "I have been given the greatest sorrow. But I will not give up hope. Though hope falls, and there is little left in life."

Riannon returned to the palace, trying to live alone. In order to make his living, he hunted, fished, and also gardened.

Morning came too. Riannon went to the garden. How surprised when he got there. He saw that his wheat garden was broken and could not be harvested. "How did this happen?" regrettable.

he then turned to the other field. However, the same thing happened again. The wheat field was damaged so it could not be harvested. "Live one field I expected. I'm so ashamed if I can't find the cause" she said in her heart.

That night, he hid the bat. When he heard the sound of a mouse squeaking, he hit him. The more he hit the horde of rats the more it spread and disappeared. However, there was one mouse that was caught by him. "Well, you are a mouse, but you have stolen mine. You must be punished" said Riannon.

The next day, Riannon took the mouse to the hill of Arbert. He's gonna kill that rat. Not until the rat was killed did a priest come with his entourage.

"Don't you dirty your hands by killing that rat" said the priest.

"This mouse has stolen mine" replied Riannon.

"You'd better sell me that mouse" the priest said.

"No, I won't sell it" Riannon refused.

"It's inappropriate for a princess to deal with an animal like a mouse. This could be a disgrace. Take our things, and hand over the rat," urged the priest.

"No, I don't sell it," Riannon refused.

"What do you want me to get that rat?" ask bishop.

"I want Pwill's freedom and an end to Difed's spell" replied Riannon.

"You'll get it now. Give me the rat" said the bishop.

"No, I want to know who exactly you and this rat are" asked Riannon.

The priest and his entourage suddenly disappeared and what appeared to be Gwal sitting on a horse. "It's me Princess," he replied, "i'm the one who has bewitched Diphed and held Pwill. The rats that ravaged your wheat garden are my man. However, on the third night the women of my kingdom succeeded him. Among them was my mother. The mouse that got caught was my mother.

"Oh, so all this is you" said Riannon.

"Yes, I've admitted everything. Now let go of the rat," pinta Gwal.

"No, I won't let go of it before you promise me. Promise me that you won't cast spells for Difed, Pwill, and also his loved ones" Riannon explained.

"Alright, you'll get my oath," replied Gwal, "quickly let go of the rat."

"Not before I saw my husband" said Riannon.

Suddenly there was lightning and there came a black cloud, after it disappeared, Pwill was seen in that place. "Riannon, did you save me?" ask Pwill.

"Yes, he saved you" said Gwal, "your kingdom will return to its original state."

Pwill and Riannon looked at the farms, plantations, and also the different peoples as they were.

"Now let go of the rat," pinta Gwal.

"Alright," answered Riannon.

He gave the mouse to Gwal. There was lightning and clouds blackened, suddenly the rat turned into an old woman. Gwal lifted him up on the horse. They left the hill of Arbert.

Pwill and Riannon are so happy that they can reunite. "Sir, I almost lost hope because you never found it. I am so grateful that my hopes have all come true" Riannon said.

"My love! Sufficient for me is your presence by my side" replied Pwill. "Let's go back to the palace" Pwill said.

They also returned to the palace. In the palace all the family, friends, and also the guards had been waiting for them. They were still in a state of partying, like nothing had happened. The King and Queen are happy.
