The Story of Roro Jonggrang

In the past, in Prambanan Village stood a kingdom led by Prabu Baka. He has a daughter named Roro Jonggrang. Once, the Kingdom of Prambanan was defeated by the Kingdom of Pengging. The kingdom had a knight named Bandung Bondowoso. Pengging master Prambanan, Bandung Bondowoso also occupies Prambanan Palace.

Bandung Bondowoso wants to marry Roro Jonggrang. However, Roro Jonggrang knew that it was the knight who killed Prabu Baka. Roro Jonggrang sought the sense to reject Bondowoso. "Make me a thousand temples and two deep wells. Everything must be finished in one night," said Roro Jonggrang gave conditions. Bandung Bondowoso agreed. For he had a great army of jinn.

They built temples and wells very quickly. Roro Jonggrang started to get nervous. Passing through midnight, only three temples and one well were unfinished. The princess then sought a way for Bandung Bondowoso to fail. He immediately called the ladies. They were tasked with burning straw, ringing dimples, and sprinkling fragrant flowers. Shortly thereafter, the eastern sky appeared reddish. Lesung is sounded. The fragrant flowers that began to smell made the chickens start crowing.

The jinn army immediately left the job in a panic. They thought it was morning. The knight from Pengging was also very upset. Finally he completed the construction of the remaining temples. However, really shit, not finished the construction of the temple, the morning has come. Bandung Bondowoso also failed to qualify from Roro Jonggrang.

Bandung Bondowoso was furious. He shouted, "You cheated, Roro Jonggrang. For what you did, I want you to be a statue in this thousandth temple!"

Roro Jonggrang turned into a statue. The form of the statue until now can be witnessed in the Prambanan temple complex. The temple is known as Roro Jonggrang Temple. The temples around it are called Sewu Temple.

Once upon a time, there lived the Sura Shark and Crocodile in the ocean. They often fight over food. Because both of them were equally strong, the fight went on for a very long time. Both are tired of fighting. They also made a deal on the division of the area of power. The sea is the territory of Shark Sura. The mouth of the river is the area of Crocodile power. They had to find food in their respective areas of power. With the agreement, the two agreed they would never fight again.

One day, Shark Sura began to run out of fish in the sea of power. He began to search for food in the river. The crocodile learned that Shark Sura had broken the agreement. The fight happened again. They bite each other, pounce, and hit. The crocodile got Sura's bite at the end of the tail on the right. As a result, the tail always bends to the left. Shark Sura bitten tail until almost broken.

The fight between Shark Sura and Crocodile is very effective in the hearts of the people of East Java. They were also used as city symbols. Sura comes from the name Shark Sura and Baya is taken from the name Crocodile.

Calonarang

In Girah Village, Kahuripan Kingdom led by Sri Baginda Erlangga, there lived a witch woman named Calonarang. The woman spread strange diseases to the people of Kahuripan. His Majesty Erlangga ordered Patih Narottama to capture the witch. However, Patih Narottama was defeated by Calonarang.

His Majesty Erlangga called Empu Bharada. He is a cousin of Calonarang. Empu Bharada knows the secret of Calonarang. The witch has an heirloom book that contains the secret of her magic. Empu Bharada called his disciple, Empu Bahula, to strategize against Calonarang.

Empu Bharada asked Empu Bahula to marry Calonarang's daughter named Diah Ratna Digi. After marriage, Empu Bahula lived in the house of Calonarang. He immediately carried out his task of stealing heirloom books. One day, Empu Bahula said goodbye to his wife and Calonarang to visit his family in the village. Calonarang was not suspicious and allowed it.

From the heirloom book, it is known that the weapon that can defeat Calonarang is the White Wing Keris. So, once you get the keris, Empu Bharada and Empu Bahula come to Calonarang. It turned out that the woman knew her book had been stolen.

"Pardon us, Calonarang," said Empu Bharada. "We did this on the orders of His Majesty. People have suffered too much because of you."

"I don't care what Gusti Raja says!" exclaim Calonarang. "Give me my book!"

Empu Bharada ignored Calonarang. The witch was getting angry. He attacked with his magic Empu Bharada deflected the attack with the White Winged Kris. On one occasion, Calonarang could not dodge. Keris White Wing ended her life. After the death of Calonarang, residents also live a peaceful life and free from strange diseases.
