I woke up shivering, realizing that I was back in my cell. The ground froze, colder than usual and I could not stop shivering. Why is it so cold? I've been able to strip it but now it all feels like ice.

I must have fainted earlier which I was grateful for because the pain was really unbearable. After the injection, I honestly didn't think I would make it. It felt like I had hung my life on a thread. I can't get through that anymore because next time, I know I won't survive.

I wonder how much time has passed but I don't know because there is no natural light. It could have been a few days or just a few hours, I don't know.

In the middle of the room, I saw a dim lantern that I thought was strange. The whole time I've been here, we've been living in the dark and they don't seem to care. So why are they giving us this little privilege now? What does that mean?

I leaned my body against the wall so that I was in a sitting position and judged myself. My condition was not good, I still felt a prolonged pain, but luckily it was not too strong. My muscles were tightly wrapped around the tension they had been through but strangely, I did not feel as weak as I used to be.

From the corner of my eye, I saw movement and realized that Chen was also awake. He occupied the cell next to mine, so when I arrived he was the first person I spoke to.

Chen is two years younger than me but he has a level of maturity that I appreciate. His personality seemed balanced: he was serious when the situation demanded it, but his hunting dog-like nature was evident through his actions.

"How are you feeling?" I asked, even though I already knew the answer.

"It looks like I should die," he groaned while waking up and mimicking my position. I nodded my head once in return because I understood.

I grabbed across the bars and squeezed her hand convincingly but she flinched, quickly pulling away. I was just trying to comfort him so I didn't understand his reaction.

"Why are you so cold?" he exclaimed, "that's not normal."

I looked at him confused. I've felt cold before, but I think it has something to do with the drop in room temperature. Is that me? I raised my hand to check it out, but they looked the same as usual, but a red cut from my fingernail.

"Hyung, something is going on" Chen said with wide eyes. I looked down and he was right, something was going on. The ground around me became glazed with ice particles. They are not fully formed but they are definitely there, surrounding me. I inched away but it followed my movements forming a trail behind me. "Did it come from you ?"

"I'm — I don't know. That's impossible" I stammered in disbelief. There's no other explanation, the only one in the cell is me. Nothing else could have caused this. Is this what Doctor Choi meant when he said we were special?

"Yes it's probably because it's getting colder outside, I mean almost Winter," Chen said sounding unsure but I was grateful that he was trying to convince me. "Although you should consider, it might be something supernatural. We just experimented, maybe it really worked and what they said was true."

That's not possible. I am normal, we are normal. Doctor Choi is just crazy and obsessed with the idea that we carry rare genes. He believes we are different but we are not.
