Mr. Dimitri's Toy

Mr. Dimitri's Toy
Death God

[Chloe’s POV]

I was sitting on one of the sofas in Edric's private library and reading a book on the same topic when the sound of knocking on the door blew away my concentration.

“Sorry Miss Eliza, Mr. Argo is already waiting under.”

“Good, thank you Layla. I'll be downstairs soon.”

I close the book with the dark brown cover, there's a palminervis leaf on it. I hugged the book in my chest and stared down from the large library window.

The warmth of the morning sun made me realize that I had spent all night here, immersed in the new readings and information I had.

I was immediately interested in the different types of herbs that could be used to cure diseases or even kill humans.

“Good morning, Miss Eliza.”

A male servant lowered his head as he passed by me. I'm still interested in the smell of human blood but now I'm better at controlling myself.

I never broke Edric's rules. I did not drink human blood and did not use the power of teleportation in front of them.

Here I am only a Miss Eliza, but on the battlefield I have a different name.

Out of nowhere, a sword almost pierced my head from behind but I casually put my body aside a little. The blade of the sword was in line with my eyes, and I could see the reflection of my own face.

“Test last before you were crowned war commander, Chloe.”

I rolled my eyeballs when I heard Argo's voice and turned to look at him standing up with a grinning smile.

“There is no harder test, Argo? It's like a little kid's game.”

Argo whistling. “Are you really my protege? In just half a year you've been appointed commander of the war. I still can't believe.”

Edric who had been sitting there looking said, “I told you Argo. You will pull your own words.”

Argo put the sword back in its place on the castle wall.

“You won, Edric. I have to admit my students this one is different.”

The old man patted me on the shoulder. He taught me to fight with the sword and I learned all the strategies of war from him. Although archery was easier, it didn't take me long to be thrown into battle.

The first war that broke out between the Kingdom of Azov and Navarre, lasted for two days.

To prove I was worthy of being a war commander and attract King Azov, Edric put me in the front row.

“Of course. He's my son,” Edric said proudly and I only gave him a small smile.

The day of the coronation arrived. All the important officials had gathered in the royal hall to witness the symbolic ceremony as King Azov raised the new war commander.

In full armor, I knelt before him saluting. Then he got up and took the sword that had been thrust out with both hands by a servant at the side.

He placed the long sword blade on my right shoulder as a symbolic sign of bestowing a new status.

Without mentioning my name, the king announced to everyone that a new commander of the war had been born. The whole hall clapped although I also received the cynical gazes of some people who were unhappy with the way King Azov hastily raised a soldier.

On that sunny day, I sat on my white horse, Stormy. I fell in love with Stormy when Edric took me away to buy a horse as a gift when I was already immune to the sunlight.

Stormy was also the one who accompanied me on the first battlefield. He is like a lucky charm that brings victory to the Azov Kingdom so that I can be appointed as a commander.

I looked at the sea of soldiers before me hearing King Azov's words.

“Starting today, God of Death is your new war commander!”

All simultaneously kneeling in reverence. They won't know my true identity because I've never taken this suit off in front of anyone else.

The God of Death.

Somehow I got that nickname. It probably came from the soldiers who fought beside me and saw how I killed the enemy so easily.

I'm just doing this to please Edric. She was the first person to treat me well when I opened my eyes and saw her crying. I don't remember, but he's my father.

“Happy duty, General!” Argo patted my shoulder.

“Thank you, Argo. It's all thanks to your services.”

From behind the armour helmet my voice did not sound like the voice of a woman. I also lowered my tone and did not speak too much.

I lifted my head and saw the sun rising above the sky. On the day that should have filled my heart with pride in the achievements that all the soldiers craved, I felt nothing.

This task is not the call of my heart.

[The Third POV]

Edric always knew where to find his daughter. After hunting, he always secluded himself in the library. He sat upright on one of the sofas closest to the window, the fireplace lit up and the sound of burning wood accompanied him.

“Chloe... I'll be going to Rudolmuv Kingdom for a week. You okay I left alone?”

His eyes turned to Edric.

“Go to Rudolmuv Kingdom again? Almost every month you always go there, Edric.”

Chloe looked back at the book and Edric walked in, standing in front of her. Recently Chloe expressed her astonishment when Edric had made this trip several times.

“Do you want to come with me?”

Chloe chuckled and turned the pages of the book, “You know I can't, Edric. Tomorrow I have to watch the training of the new soldiers. Maybe you forgot who I am now.”

Edric stroked her soft hair and kissed her head. “Of course, Chloe. I'm so proud of you, my son.”

Chloe just gave him a small smile. Edric always praised her and said that she was so proud that Chloe got tired of hearing it.

“Then, I go first.”

If only you knew the reason I always went to the neighboring kingdom. I went to see my granddaughter, Chloe. Dwayne will be 1 year old in a few days and I don't want to miss his birthday party.

Edric had already arrived at the door when he heard Chloe's soft voice.

“Be careful, papa.”

Edric's eyes widened and he looked in disbelief. A warm smile adorned Chloe when she saw Edric's face so shocked.

“A-did I not hear wrong? You called..”

“Papa. Or would you rather I call you as usual?”

Edric's mouth was raised upwards, “Of course I'd rather you call me papa!”

The father and son smiled at each other. So long until Chloe's been beating.

“Not your train is waiting below?”

“Oh yes, sorry. See you, Chloe. I’ll miss you.”

“Bye, papa.”

The library's large door was closed and Chloe could hear Edric's happy screams from inside.

With a smile adorning his face, he continued his reading.
