A few weeks ago, Arsene was appointed by the new Chairman of the LDK, Kang Ahmad, a 7th semester FISIP student, to be a moderator at a weekly afternoon review routine. This was his first experience as a moderator. It will guide the speaker to deliver the conversation. Arsene responded, though he hesitated. He just wants to hone his public speaking potential in front of the crowd.
An ustadz advisor of LDK DKM Asy-Syifa who is planned to fill out the study later in the afternoon. Arsene has been practicing by watching videos of how a moderator works. What is clear is that he must be confident and not nervous in front of the mosque worshipers.
That afternoon the sky was so clean. The clouds are out of the way, so that the sun can spread a burning heat for the creatures of the world. Afternoon studies are held at 4. 30, where students usually have finished studying. Arsene set his breath while sitting cross-legged in the hallway while waiting for the start of the event. The mosque bulkhead has been moved so that religious worshipers can watch the event inside the mosque, although its existence is still separate from Muslim worshipers.
The LDK administrators have also placed sofa chairs on the carpet of the mosque that is intended for the performers that afternoon.
“Deg-degan Sen?” ask Angga who was sitting in front of him.
“Yes, the first time!” the answer.
“Just relax, you can definitely!” sahut Adit's.
Although Arsene is no longer in the same class as Adit and Angga because Arsene had to pursue his studies in the second semester, the three remain solid and compact as friends. They are already equally active in the DKM LDK. Even Angga and Adit already held positions in their respective departments of choice.
“Sen, get ready yes. Ustadz Halim has arrived!” said Galih, an activist friend at the LDK who is also at his age.
“Ready!”
Arsene tidied up his shirt, and wore an LDK jacket modeled like a black suit with the LDK DKM Asy-Syifa logo in gold.
“Yuk ah in!” invite Angga.
The three of them entered the mosque and sat on the carpet. Arsene will wait for the MC's instructions to guide the event first before he steps forward.
Before long a man with glasses, maybe his age is not far from Reza, came and greet the congregation sitting in front, including Arsene there. Then Ustadz Halim sat next to Arsene who was empty.
“Assalamu’alaikum Tadz!” greet Arsene nodded.
“Wa’alaikumsalam. This is Arsene, right? Who will be my moderator?” tanya Ustadz Halim friendly.
“Betul Tadz! Please help,” said Arsene.
“God willing!”
Brotherhood and religious organizations have come from various faculties. There are also from the community who deliberately came because they have memorized the schedule of routine studies that evening congregation. It wasn't much, but they were already sitting in a neat and tight row in front.
An ikhwan MC had been standing in front greeting the worshippers present. Impressions from the powerpoint application are also on in front of the screen, so it will make it easier for pilgrims to understand the material to be delivered. He had opened the event, then invited a friend to read the Quran so that this assembly of knowledge would be even more blessed.
“Thank you to Kang Angga who has brought tilawah, may the reward flow to those who read it and also to those who hear it. Aamiins. Before proceeding to the next event, we know the same moderator who will guide the study material this afternoon. Please Kang, show her CV!” said the MC.
The operator displays the moderator's short CV on the screen.
“Yes this is it, the moderator who will be hosting the event this afternoon. His name is Arsene Rezka Winata. Born in Bandung, 20 years ago. Now studying English Literature class of class 20xx. Status is married. Waw! Let us welcome Brother Arsene with takbir, Allahu Akbar!”
Arsene got up from his seat and stood in front. The MC greeted him kindly before he took over the show. Then give her a microphone.
Arsene sighed, setting his rhythm. He looked at all the worshippers present and only focused on the male pilgrims to keep his eyes on him. Although he knew there was a figure that he missed sitting staring at him with other religious worshipers.
“Bismilbornrahmaanirrahim. Innalhamdalillahi nahmaduhu wanasta’iinuhu wanastaghfireuhu. Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu. Thank God on this sunny afternoon, God willing I Arsene will guide my friends here in a weekly regular review that will be presented by Dr. Ustadz. Halim Ashari, M. Coms. We read CV Ustadz Halim first. He is an alumnus of S1 to S3 from the Faculty of Informatics Engineering of Bumi Pertiwi University. Currently active as a lecturer in the same faculty, as well as a dedicated activist of LDK DKM Asy-Syifa and also Chairman of Asyari Foundation. She is married and has 4 children. We welcome Ustadz Halim with takbir. Allahu akbar!”
Arsene invited Ustadz Halim to sit on the sofa that has been provided. He also sat in another chair next to each other.
“For today's review, there is a material delivery session first then the next discussion forum will be opened. So for friends who listen, can prepare questions if there is material that has not been understood. Alright, to Ustadz Halim are welcome to deliver the material today.”
Ustadz Halim opened the study of the day by pronouncing His name and glorifying His name, and giving greetings and prayers to the Prophet. He began to convey the material after greeting the worshippers who were present first.
“Qada is a language that means law, decree, and will of God. Everything that happens comes from Allah SWT, the owner of life. Before the process of life, God had written down what would happen. Be it about the good, the bad and also about life or death.
“Qadar is linguistically interpreted as a provision or certainty from Allah. While in terms, qadar means a definite determination and has been determined by Allah SWT. What is happening, is happening, or is going to happen.
“Directed in the hadith of the history of Bukhari and Muslim, the Prophet said: ‘Truly a person is created from the stomach of his mother for 40 days in the form of a nuthfah, 40 days into a lump of blood, 40 days into a lump of meat, 40 days into a lump of flesh, then God sent an angel to blow the soul in it and wrote down four provisions that are about sustenance, death, charity, and (the way of life) miserable or happy.’
“The relationship between Qada and Qadar is also inseparable. Qada is a plan and Qadar is the embodiment or reality that will happen as Allah has determined SWT.
“God has determined everything that happens and can not be changed by humans, such as the birth and death of someone, natural disasters and disasters, sustenance and also the day of the apocalypse.
“But there are also things that can still be changed by human hands. God gives man space to change things according to his own choice, and it remains inseparable from the qada and qadar of Allah. This is what only God knows. What is clear is that we still believe that everything in this world and the universe, God who governs and establishes it.”
Ustadz Halim is still delivering afternoon material relating to God's destiny. The worshippers were so serious and focused on taking it. Even Arsene was so stunned by the explanation of the bespectacled ustadz. His eyes glittered with jaw muscles that were pulled so hard. Sometimes he closed his eyes. Arsene straightened his position, looking at a woman who was staring at him with a glint of eyes that he was very familiar. Their gazes locked for a moment, before the newspaper finally bowed. There were several water crystal droplets falling from his eyes.
“Qada and Allah's qadar have indeed been outlined and cannot be changed. But God also still gives space, so that people can work for what they can do. Allah will judge the process while the result will be Allah. It can still be a lesson and wisdom for other humans, that God still provides an opportunity to improve the existing situation. After that be patient and confident, with that the heart becomes calm.”
Ustadz Halim closed the material before the discussion forum.
“Jazakallahu khair for his material Tadz, very piercing. That it turns out that God still provides opportunities, so that humans can improve the situation. Right now, we are opening a discussion forum. For those who want to ask, please raise your hand and introduce yourself. We will limit 3 questions first.”
A man raised his hand. Arsene was quite surprised because Zaara dared to ask questions early even though the girl had cried.
“Iya there is one questioner from akhwat and two questioners from ikhwan. Starting from the past yes, because the first one raises his hand! Please stand up and introduce yourself, Tea!” arsene told Zaara.
A committee member gave her a microphone.
“Assalamu’alaikum Tadz, introduce me Zaara from the department of Indonesian Literature.”
Ustadz Halim invited him, while Arsene tried to listen to what Zaara would ask with a heart fluttering.
Zaara bowed for a while, then took a breath.
“Recently someone had a great calamity, until finally he decided something that made him reflect and isolate himself. He is disappointed in others who ... are considered important, but is it natural for a human being? What to do if only he still felt disappointed in that person?”
Arsene bowed limply at Zaara's question which of course would have led to him. Like a sharp spear so sore. She thought Zaara had really opened her heart, but she seemed to be wrong, because maybe Zaara was still disappointed in her. Arsene is trying to refocus.
“So as to the question, let's take it first huh? Continue to the next inquirer!” arsene looked nervous.
Two other questioners have already asked questions. Ustadz Halim put the microphone back on and ready to give an answer.
“The first question of Zaara Tea yes. It is what Allah wills, it is the part of Allah that cannot change. That's the first one. If there is indeed someone from the life of the A who indirectly leads to the disaster, then do not blame him completely. For God will abide by his will, perhaps in another way. Wallahu. Disappointment is normal for every human being, but until when? Especially for example this is a person who is very important for the life of the A. There is room for the A, whether to forgive him and improve what already exists or continue to harbor a sense of disappointment that over time will become a grudge? For sure the first choice will lead to the pleasure of Allah and the reward. Maybe the person will change because they regret their actions. We must also be careful, lest we be disappointed with God and blame His destiny. Do not let, Allah wills the best for His faithful servant. There must always be wisdom there. That's what I think.”
Zaara beristighfar shed tears, feeling stupefied by ustadz's answer. He felt very guilty. Heart's shaking.
The choice of his heart is right at this time, he will open up and also forgive Arsene's error in his attitude some time ago. She realized she was also wrong because she was selfish, and made herself negligent to her husband, because she asked to avoid him.
The sun has sunk, Adzan has reverberated. The review was completed before the Adzan. Zaara was silent sitting on the carpet of the mosque preparing for the congregational prayer of Maghrib. He did not call his sister that afternoon to pick her up. He will look here for a moment until nightfall. Whether he's going back to the apartment that night, the girl doesn't know yet. He only wanted to ask God for forgiveness because he might be disappointed in what God had already destined for him. His fetus belongs to God, God can take it at any time. And he blamed Arsene for this, even though Arsene had ignored him.
Zaara bowed for a long time. He asked forgiveness for his attitude.
Arsene walked out of the mosque after the prayers and prayers were finished that night. He glanced at the akhwat's passage, had his wife gone home?
“Back when is Sen?” ask Adit.
“About again!”
“Gue first yes?!”
“Ya!”
Arsene momentarily felt the cool breeze of the night pass through his jacket. He was still thinking about Zaara's question. Is it true that the girl still feels disappointed in him? Though he was already happy when Zaara asked him to wait for her in a moment. Perhaps indeed, Zaara still needs time to set the heart. Arsene bowed and sat his body on the terrace of the western side.
Zaara came out of the mosque. The girl called her sister, asking her to pick her up immediately. He regretted not contacting his sister before that. Now he had to wait longer in the quiet mosque alone on the terrace of the east side.
There was no one else but them, for almost all the worshippers had returned home. However, the two people who are united in the bond of marriage do not know each other that they are in the same place and time with the same great hope to be back together.
