That morning the air was quite cold. Asphalt looks still wet because of the rain last night. The leaves that were conquered by the rain seemed to be scattered on the ground. The cleaning workers of the campus were busy cleaning which looked difficult due to the wet conditions.
Ferdian dropped his wife in front of the dean building before 8:30, while he himself would not go down, because he would immediately leave for the next campus which is approximately 3 km from the campus. She kissed the back of her husband's hand.
"Hopefully good speech," said Ferdian smiling.
"You too, honey! Be careful on the road" Ajeng said, he got out of his car and waved.
Ajeng's heart thumped in welcome today, but Ferdian's trust in him gave him his own strength. He had everything ready for the reception. He is used to giving a welcome for small events like this, including from his own library which also often receives donation books from publishers who work with the campus. This morning he will be teaching in his new student class. Mr. Burhan also advised him to invite his students to visit the library at 10 later, if indeed they do not have classes.
I don't feel like time is going so fast. Ajeng teaching hours have ended, there are still about fifteen minutes left to go to the event in the library. He gulped down his strawberry lemon juice, as a mood booster and stirred up his energy. She tidied up the makeup on her face as well as her formal casual outfit that made her look feminine and elegant at the same time.
Ajeng walked with a pounding heart, he tried to regulate the rhythm of his breath. Several times he did abdominal breathing to feel more relaxed. It seems that the library is already filled with many students and staff who organize this event. Someone ran over to Ajeng.
"Come on Miss, the show's about to start!" said a young female staff member, the library manager.
"Oh yeah, sorry I just finished teaching!"
The staff brought Ajeng into the staff room, all of whom had gathered there. Many dus-dus piled up there, it turns out that the donation books have also come.
"Miss Ajeng is ready?" ask the other staff.
"Yes please,"
"We're going to the lobby!" bring later.
The library lobby room is quite spacious, now it has been filled by many students who are familiar with the library. Some sofas are placed in front for the audience, especially from the publisher as well as the top faculty who represent.
The man was already sitting on the sofa in a blue steel-colored shirt. He looked forward to where an MC would open the show. Ajeng sat next to the deputy dean of the administrative and staffing department, two seats from the man. He tried to calm himself. The woman was indeed very good at conquering her nervousness, her professional attitude was reliable.
MCs also opened the show. He asked the faculty to give the first speech. The deputy dean of administration and staff came forward and gave his speech. After five minutes of giving a welcome, the show was returned to the host.
"Thank you to Ms. Ratna Sulastri, who has given her welcome. The next event was a speech from the Head of the Library of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, but because Mr. Burhan Ginanjar was unable to attend, the speech will be delivered by the Ambassador of Reading of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, namely Ibu Ajeng Chandra Diningrat, welcome to him," said the MC.
Ajeng got up from his chair, he exhaled a long breath and walked forward. The MC gave him a microphone, Ajeng smiled. Kevin, who was sitting watching the event, stared fixedly at the woman standing in front. He did not expect Ajeng to give a speech this morning. The gazes of the two met for a moment, Kevin corrected the position of his body to become more upright.
"Assalamu'alaikum. Reading opens the window of the world. Without us having to go out, without us spending a lot of money to travel, without us devoting energy, by reading we can know everything that exists, he said, even those who are invisible and beyond human logic. Reading is a bridge for those who are in the dark to the light. In the current era, reading does not have to go through books, there are many media to be read. However, books are a form of treasure that must be guarded and loved. We as book lovers, thank the Natabooks who have contributed greatly to the progress of this campus. With books published and given to our campus, it is expected that our knowledge and insight will increase, as well as our love of books and science. May Allah repay your kindness many more times. Thank you!"
The audience applauded the words of Ajeng. Kevin smiled faintly at her at a glance before the woman returned to her seat.
The host also returned to lead and invited the Natabooks to also give a special speech. Kevin stood up and came forward and took the microphone.
"This library has always been my favorite when I was in college. This library also brought me to be who I am today. The books I read first turned out to make that little motivation big. The greater the motivation, the greater my dream. I hope that many students here can achieve bigger dreams, through this library, through the books here. Therefore, I am proud to give the books we have published to be stored here, in the hope that they can be a bridge to a bright future. Not only books, we also provide digital access for library members here to be able to access our books wherever they are. Hopefully with this our campus is getting ahead, and bringing real progress for the nation. Thank you!"
"Thank you very much to Kevin Nataprawira. Hopefully, students here more often visit the library and increase their insight. Turning to the next event, is a symbolic handover from the Natabooks namely Mr. Kevin Nataprawira to the campus represented by our Read Ambassador, Miss Ajeng Chandra Diningrat. Both are welcome to go back to the front."
Kevin and Ajeng went back to the front. A cultural encyclopedia was prepared to be a symbolic item handover assistance from the Natabooks for the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. Kevin held the pretty thick encyclopedia, then he handed it to Ajeng. The two hold together. That's when many cameras capture it, both from campus photographers, journalism teams, and amateur cameras of book lovers students. Kevin and I smiled at the camera. After finishing the photo session, Ajeng took the encyclopedia which turned out to be quite heavy as well. Some of the staff immediately helped Ajeng who looked difficult, and took it from the hands of the pregnant woman.
"Are you okay?" asked Kevin after seeing the troubled Ajeng.
"It's okay!" answer Ajeng.
Both of them returned to their seats. A comedy-drama show was staged as entertainment in the middle of the show. Did not feel the event was completed before the adzan reverberated.
Walk outside the library. Suddenly a voice called his name. He looked back, and Kevin called out to him. He's surprised.
"Ajeng wait a minute!" said the man with short hair with random bangs.
Ajeng stopped his steps.
"What's wrong?" ask her with a flat tone.
"Can we talk? Or lunch together?" ask Kevin.
Time still shows at 11. WIB 12. Checking her phone, there was no message from her husband. Ajeng muttered, is it okay to just accept the request of his old friend for a moment? There is no problem between them to be solved.
"How's it?" ask Kevin again.
"All right, just for a second but. I still have a teaching schedule this afternoon!" answer Ajeng with resolute eyes.
"Thank you, wait a minute! I'll leave all my business to my assistant!"
Kevin ran into the library again, shortly after he returned.
"Where are you?" ask Ajeng.
"Cantin is full, right? We eat out is it possible? Just be close" said the man.
"All right!" say Ajeng.
"Are you really a lecturer at our college?" kevin sipped his cappucino.
"Yes that way," answered Ajeng briefly.
"Good! You really hold onto your commitment."
"I told you before, right?!"
"Yes, I never doubted you, Jeng!"
"You too, it seems that your father's company is much better, not begiu?" ask Ajeng while bribing his cheese cake.
"Yes actually since I was in America, the condition of the company Papi has crawled up. But after I come back, I can develop it" said Kevin.
The warden smiled stiffly. Actually his heart was not calm, because he came here without Ferdian's knowledge. It's not feeling good.
"Did you remember your promise to me?" kevin asked, squinting his eyes.
"What promise?" tanya Ajeng raised her eyebrows.
Kevin chuckles.
"Promise to wait for me" he said slowly.
Ajeng's heart is beating. But his heart asked, since when did he promise Kevin that.
"Did I ever say anything like that?"
"Yes, I remember it a lot. You used to say, look for me on campus, because I'm going to teach there!" kevin smiled.
Just laugh with force.
"You assume I promised to wait for you, what do you mean?" ask Ajeng.
"I assume at that time, you want to wait for me to come home from America and continue our relationship that we never pledged" said Kevin.
He laughed a little, he clucked.
"Geez Kev, I never even thought about going there!"
"To this day I still wish you, Jeng!"
Ajeng shook his head, sounding ridiculous Kevin said that.
"Can't you see that I'm pregnant? I'm married to Kev!" sergeant Ajeng tried to make the man aware.
"I know you're married for a match, right? You have to marry your husband, right?" kevin said with high intonation.
"It's true, but I love my husband! Be aware Kev, there are still many women out there who are better than me!"
"I can't, Jeng! I've only loved you my whole life!"
"God! I better get out of here!"
He immediately walked outside the cafe. He no longer cared about the man he considered his old friend. Kevin is crazy. He should not have agreed to her lunch. He moved his feet outside. She was about to cross the street, and Ferdian's car passed in front of her, and her husband saw her. Kevin pulled the arm of Ajeng who was just about to cross the street.
"You crazy? The danger of crossing without warning!" scream Kevin.
"You're crazier, Kev!" yelled Ajeng trying to release his hand from Kevin's grip.
"Report, Kev! I'm going!"
Instead of letting go of his grip, the man even further tightened his hand.
A few passing people looked towards them with astonished gazes.
"Get my wife's hand off!"
