Chapter 35: The Custodian Mode

After that, Ryo did not stop injecting natural energy into the Yin seal. He really took 10 days to saturate it.

The amount of natural energy he collected himself from his surroundings actually fluctuated. That's what causes a 3-day delay.

But that didn't stop Ryo from admiring the power of nature! It takes a human at least two years to fulfill his Yin seal. But with natural energy, it only takes 10 days.

Jiraya didn't see it that way. To him, gathering Chakra into the Yin Seal, and gathering natural energy were two completely different things.

First, natural energy is inexhaustible, while the power supply of Ninja is limited. Second, Chakra is what is used for Ninjutsu, not pure natural energy. From his point of view, using Chakra to fill the seal was more practical than using natural energy. (Translator's Note: What I understand from this is that because Chakra is usually an inhibitor in fights, it is more practical to store it than natural energy. This is not always the case for Ryo.)

After Ryo injected so many natural Chakras into his seal, he realized what Jiraya meant when he said that this source of energy was endless.

After saturating his Yin Seal, Ryo entered Ice Elementization mode, freeing up the natural energy within the seal. Natural energy flowed profusely from Ryo's arm.

He released a large amount of water. Freezing them did not eat any chakra, even while using the Ice Dragon attack.

After about 10 minutes, Ryo turned off the natural energy output of the Yin Seal. The amount saved is reduced by one-fifth. Most of it is released into the air and with all of its intensive freezing, Ryo uses only a fraction of what is released.

In other words, after only 10 days of gathering natural energy, Ryo was able to use Ice without consuming Chakra for a full 50 minutes.

The problem of excessive Chakra consumption while using the release of Ice that plagued Ryo's life for almost 4 years is now finally solved.

Everything he did to practice Sage mode was motivated by trying to solve this dilemma.

Fukasaku said Ryo could not reach Sage mode. The main reason was that he absorbed too much natural energy from the outside. It was now too late for him to get his 3 types of energy in a 1:1:1 Ratio to produce the Senjutsu Chakra.

So Ryo wanted to try this: If he could use as much physical and spiritual energy as the special internal natural Chakra, would he be able to produce the Senjutsu Chakra? If he could, then he would unseal her afterwards to equip himself with natural energy to maintain balance.

Fukasaku said that a Ninja could easily distinguish between physical and spiritual energy, as both are used in Ninjutsu. Ryo didn't need much practice to figure it out either.

He channeled equal amounts of physical and spiritual energy into his own natural energy through his body.

Once all three sources reach the appropriate ratio, they begin to mix slowly. A new type of Chakra was born inside Ryo!

"Is this Cakra Senjutsu?" His eyelids began to look orange; his Sage fashion face looked just like Naruto's face.

Ryo felt the change of chakra within his body. As in Manga, the performance improvement provided by Sage mode is huge. His Sensory and physical abilities were greatly improved.

Ryo activated his Lightning Cakra Mode. At the same time, he released his Yin Seal. After doing so, his speed, power, and Lightning Release were massively enhanced. His speed completely exceeded the speed in the Ice-Lightning Chakra mode.

“[Thunder Release: Chidori]” Ryo also observed a great evolution for Justu. Not only his strength, even his voice became weak and inaudible.

Kakashi says in Manga that Chidori was developed for the purpose of assassination. But throughout the story, both Chidori and Raikiri have been used primarily in combat.

Ryo understood why this technique was not often used for murder when he learned it: it sounded too loud. For him, Chidori, as well as his descendant Raikiri, is not perfect. (Translator's note: It should be noted that Chidori is said to be efficient in killing despite her loud voice, due to her speed. See chapter 113, page 15.)

But the moment Ryo added natural Chakra to it, it became perfect for murder.

About a minute later, more or less, the Hermit Mode was lifted automatically. Ryo's chakra isn't enough to sustain him anymore. No matter how much natural energy he could harness from his seal, he needed more Chakras.

After he regained his form, Ryo entered Sage Mode again and again. This time he did not use the Yin seal, and did not use his Thunder Chakra mode. Sage Ryo mode is always maintained for less than 2 minutes.

Then he did another experiment: Using Sage mode, Thunder Chakra mode, and Chidori, he lasted less than a minute.

After determining his ability to maintain the ascetic Mode under different conditions, he stopped practicing. Now, he needed to consult the 2 great wise frogs.

The next day he finds Fukasaku training Jiraya. Jiraya still could not integrate herself with nature. This is not something Fukasaku can help with. Only Jiraya can solve this on her own.

“What's Ryo Chan?” Fukasaku had already sensed his arrival.

“Ryo, didn't I say? You cannot enter Sage Mode. What are you..”

Before he finished his words, Ryo entered Sage mode. Fukasaku and Jiraya were both stunned to see Young Ryo.

What was even more surprising to Fukasaku was the perfect Sage Ryo mode. He didn't expect him to even enter that mode, and now not only did he succeed, his Sage mode was perfect.

Then he saw the Natural energy coming out of the seal on Ryo's arm.

"Ryo Chan, are you absorbing the natural energy from this seal?"

Ryo did not tell Fukasaku about the special Natural energy he had inside him. So when he saw the flow of energy coming out of the seal, he thought Ryo was using it to control the flow of natural energy.

Ryo nodded without saying a word.

"Satan small, how long can you maintain Sage Mode?" Jiraya asked him.

“No more than 2 minutes.”

“Ryo Chan, you have too little Chakra now. For now, Sage mode will not be optimal for you. When you are mature enough, you will have enough Chakra to use it efficiently.”

“Yes Fukasaku Sama.”

"But you are truly the genius of Ryo Chan, you actually found a way to control the flow of natural energy into your body."

“Bos, you are wrong! Her genius is me, helping the child with her seal so that she can enter this mode.” Jiraya, then laughed out loud.

“Jiraya Chan, you can't even get into Sage mode alone! Keep practicing.”

“Ya boss...” Jiraya looks confused by Fakasaku's words.

“Ryo Chan, now I will teach you Kawazu Kumite (Katak Kata)!”

“Yes, thank you Fukasaku Same!”
