the Yagumo region. It would be Less than a week after he left the spirit village, Rio became a hard journey, two to three months on foot – even if he has improved his body with spirit arts – but thanks to the wind spirit arts he has learned from the village, he could fly far away instead. Therefore, he can travel from the village to Yagumo with relative ease. However, from then on, Rio's matter really started.
Visiting the Yagumo region to mourn the deceased parents in their own homeland was understandable, but Rio almost had no information on the location of their birthplace. The only information he had was their names. There are more than 30 countries of various sizes in the Yagumo region, whose attempts to find their hometown in this way seem almost futile.
However, that did not deter Rio from continuing to advance by achieving his goal. He visited all the towns and villages on the west side of Yagumo, in the hope that he would find someone who recognized his parents' names. But having a will does not always mean there is a way.
Currently, Rio was visiting Karasuki Kingdom, a large country located in the western region of Yagumo region. He had already passed through several towns and villages, and was going to head to the next village, so he used wind spirit arts to ascend into the air. The goal is a small point on the horizon.
… The village, huh?
With a bird's-eye view, he could see a road that stretched from the east and west sides of the village, a small hill in the north, and a mountain overgrown with trees in the south. It was a typical and beautiful village; mediocre but beautiful. Residential areas occupy the center of the village, where houses made of wood, lime, and clay stand in rows. Judging from their numbers, the population might be around three hundred or so. Around it are fields and meadows, where villagers are seen working.
They said that Yuba, the head of this village, had many connections. Rio recalled the information he had gathered from the neighboring village chief he had visited earlier. To be honest, he didn't really expect to find much here. At this point, he could not even remember how many times he raised his expectations, only to be disappointed once again.
To avoid unnecessary commotion by landing right in the middle of the village, Rio traveled quite a distance. After landing on the road leading from the west side of the village, he lightly ran towards the entrance. The village was surrounded by a simple wooden fence, with no scouts stationed at the entrance, allowing Rio to walk in freely.
Even so, there were villagers working on their farms in all directions, so they were aware of the fact that someone had entered from the outside. Sure enough, when Rio arrived at the entrance of the village, some villagers were staring at him. However, none of them approached – they were just watching him from a distance.
The atmosphere almost made him hesitant to go any further, but any village would be wary of unknown outsiders. This was normal, and it was a reaction that Rio was already very familiar with.
Rio bowed briefly to the farmers, before stepping through the entrance. He calmly walked straight towards the center of the village – where the house of the village chief was most likely – so that he could finish his affairs here quickly.
Two girls dressed in simple clothes emerged from the field beside him, and hesitantly approached. They seemed to be in their teens; one of them looked two or three years older than the other.
“Umm, do you need anything from our village?” The older-looking girl asked Rio timidly.
“Halo. My name is Rio,” Rio replied in a formal tone and gave them a friendly smile.
“I'm on my way to find someone. I want to meet this village chief ... Do they exist at this time? ” he asked his question.
His pronunciation was a little awkward, but he was fluent enough that he had no trouble speaking in conversation, thanks to his extensive knowledge of Ursula and the others in the spirit village. They had taught him the language spoken in the Yagumo region during their time together. The months he spent wandering through Yagumo also helped. Rio introduced himself politely and explained the situation, causing the two girls to widen their eyes.
“A-Ah, umm, h-hello. W-Well to meet you, umm? Are you an adventurer? The village head is in ... does .. exist? Should I show you the way? ” Older girl offers nervously. He doesn't seem too comfortable speaking formally.
“Thank you very much. Many people tend to be wary of outsiders who suddenly appear on their doorstep .. If it's not a hassle, I gladly accept your offer,” Rio thanked him in a calm voice, bow his head and smile thinly.
“Y-Sure! Then ... Umm .. Please follow me!” The older girl nodded with a shrill voice and started walking towards the center of the village. Meanwhile, the younger girl, who was standing behind him, looked at Rio's face in a daze.
“...Is there a problem?” Rio stopped in confusion just as he was about to follow the older girl who was already walking away.
“...Huh? Ah, ti-no! I-This, umm ... is nothing!” The younger girl blushed and shook her head strongly.
“O-OK, Ruri!” Asked by an older girl named Ruri, Sayo – younger girl – rush to run. Rio slightly tilted his head before he went chasing after them.
The two girls still looked nervous as they walked uncomfortably, while occasionally looking at Rio. Sayo, in particular, often glanced at him. Are outsiders really that rare? Rio thought, staring at Sayo's back as they walked. The three of them maintained that awkward silence and distance until they arrived at the village chief's house.
“Grandma, you have guests! He said he was looking for someone!” Ruri shouted loudly as she entered the house. The front door opens onto a clay floor leading to an elevated living room, where a sinking fireplace was erected to warm the area.
“You don't need to be too noisy, Ruri. I can hear you well ... Oh? ” After a while, an old woman appeared. He saw Rio standing behind Ruri and Sayo at the entrance and narrowed his eyes.
“Halo, nice to meet you. I'm Rio. I'm dating today to ask you a few things, village head,” Rio introduced himself kindly and took a step forward. The old woman widened her eyes.
“Oho, what a courtesy we have here. Your clothes are unknown and you have a slight accent .. A traveler from a foreign country, maybe?” The old woman's gaze analyzed Rio, as if she was trying to identify his origin.
“Yes, I'm not from here. I have traveled to various countries.”
“So, so. … Ah, I'm sorry. I'm Yuba. I'm sure you already know this, but I am the head of this village. ”
“It's nice to meet you.” Rio bowing.
“Yes, enough formality. Please sign. Ruri, Sayo, pour tea.”
“Good! Let's go, Sayo,” Ruri replied excitedly on Yuba's orders. Sayo nodded awkwardly before heading to the kitchen with her.
“You.Please come to the living room. … Oof.” Yuba directed Rio to one of the seating pillows in front of the sinking fireplace and sat down.
“Excuse.” Rio bowed modestly before taking off his shoes and stepping into the living room. Then, he took off the hooded coat he had worn over the sword and armor he had received from the spirits of the people, and placed them on the floor along with his sheathed sword.
“...The clothes you wear under your coat are rarely seen in this area. The sword was excellent, but its shape was a bit strange. You certainly don't look like someone from this country.” Yuba looked at her appearance with curiosity, as Rio expected.
“My weapons and clothes are not made in this country. I usually wear a coat to avoid attracting people's attention. ”
“True, your appearance does attract attention. Not to mention how high the quality of your equipment is, especially for casual travelers.”
“Yes, these items are very good. As a craftsman, I am deeply indebted for making it a special gift to me. ”
“...Is that so. Well, I'm not gonna dig any further than that. The tea is ready now, so let me hear your story. ” Ruri and Sayo brought tea right at that moment, so Yuba cut the conversation there. The girls split up to each serve Yuba and Rio tea.
“Thank you very much.” Rio thanked Sayo, because it was she who put the tea in front of him.
