It was the first time Amy had met a black-haired woman with hazel eyes who was now walking up to her, but she immediately recognized him because the beautiful woman in front of him was none other than the older sister of her husband Helen Margaret Xander.
Amy can recognize him right away not because she has seen a portrait of him in this house, but Helen looks very similar to her mother who she met a few years ago in Nort West.
She looked like the younger version of her husband's mother. Maybe this is what her husband's mother looked like when she was young.
“Hai, Helen, long time no see,” greet Madelyne, put on a face not happy to see his arrival. “As you know yourself maybe Danny is currently playing under a girl's skirt, whoever it is somewhere, so I have no choice but to come to Markus' house, although I forgot now it is not only Markus who is in this house.”
The scornful look Madelyne threw at Amy provoked her anger again. However, before he could reply, Helen first threw a reply that this second time managed to silence the mouth of the venomous woman.
“Maddy dear, you are wrong, you have no choice,” reproach Helen as soft as silk, shaking her head. “If only the politeness you have is as good as your smart brain, of course coming here will never be your choice.”
Madelyne's face immediately reddened hearing the insults. Unfortunately Helen has not finished criticizing the behavior of her husband's secretary.
“You know for yourself Markus just got married, which means he's still in his newlywed days, so it's not appropriate for you to bother your boss in the morning like this. It's more appropriate for you to bother playboy Danny than Mark who already has a wife, isn't it Maddy dear?” Helen raised her eyebrows. “And next time I hope you keep your attitude in front of your superior wife, because after all you are her husband's subordinate, so you are also under him. Okay, Miss Secretary?”
Hearing the nickname that Amy also gave to her husband's secretary last night made her snort because she tried to hold back a laugh.
His face that held back laughter made the already angry Madelyne grow even bigger his anger. Alternately she looked at Amy and Helen, feeling she was about to lose against the two of them, she stomped her feet and turned away without saying a word.
“I can not understand why Markus still keep the jal*ng at his side,” grumbled Helen looked at the departure of Madelyne with eyebrows linked.
Finally Amy's laughter broke also after being unable to hold back the laughter she was trying to hold. The astonished Helen listened to her sudden laughter was gradually unable to help her smile as well.
“It's good to hear you laugh. Though I was already worried about meeting my sour-faced sister-in-law, or pop-up eyes.”
Wiping away the tears at the corner of her eyes, this time Amy who was staring at Helen was astonished. “Why should I be like that?”
Helen took his hand. “I've heard everything from Luke. That's why I'm here now.”
While telling a story, Helen led him to the back of the house to talk alone there. According to Helen speaking in the open courtyard is more comfortable than in the house, because there will be many pairs of ears that hear from behind the wall.
So he took Amy to sit with him on a relaxing bench with a small round table. They chat surrounded by shady trees and various flowers decorate the yard beautifully.
From the chat Amy finally knew where Mark had been sleeping for the last few days. It turned out that the nightclub he had been to that night belonged to Luke's cousin, and it was there that Mark had been staying overnight, before his flirtatious secretary accidentally met him there.
Feeling that it was her chance to get Markus in her arms, she intended to take Markus to the hotel that day, which fortunately was immediately stopped, thanks to Luke coming there because his cousin contacted her about the whereabouts of her husband.
Just listening to it made Amy want to go to Madelyne and grab the hair of the woman until all her hair was off her head. How dare he take advantage of his quarrel with Markus.
His cruel delusion was foiled when a servant was serving drinks and snacks for the two of them.
It was only after the servant left them that Helen finally asked what she wanted to ask Amy from the beginning.
“I know this is our first meeting, but I really can't hold myself much longer than the curiosity that gnaws at me,” Helen began. “Actually what happened to you and Mark, Amy? Why did she behave that way on the first day you got married?”
Since this was what Amy feared when chatting with Helen, she was afraid that her brother-in-law would ask the cause of Mark being this cold to her.
Although he had expected it he was really not ready to tell all this to his sister-in-law. Although he had only briefly chatted with Helen, he already liked his sister-in-law very much.
Her cheerful and friendly carrying made Amy feel comfortable. It was like talking to Sophie's sister. How much he missed his family.
Sensing Amy's hesitation to tell a story, Helen grabbed her hand and smiled gently at her.
“If you're still not ready to tell me your problem is okay, baby, I won't force you. I just want you to know that I just want to help you. Just so you know, I'm glad you're part of our family.”
It was this heartfelt remark that finally made Amy tell Helen everything without a single cover-up. In the end Helen would know later too, so what difference would it make to tell her now.
Although she hoped little that Helen would understand her, and believed that she would not betray Mark regardless of the marriage was a lie.
"I know I've done cruel things to Mark because of my selfishness, but Helen I swear I've ended it all with Samuel, and I've also decided I'm going to devote my whole life to a Mark." Amy grabbed Helen's hand. "I also know you must be disappointed to learn all this, but Helen, please help me get Mark's heart back."
Helen's gaze was fixed on something behind her, as if unable to look into Amy's eyes directly.
"I think it's gonna be hard to do."
Amy's grip slipped from Helen's hand, sighing she looked down at her lap.
"You're right. I should have known my lies were hard to forgive" Amy said, smiling wryly. "I'm sorry I've been shameless by asking for your help. This was all my work, however, so I had to finish it by myself, even though I had to kneel down and ask for Mark's mercy for the rest of my life."
"Oh, Amy, I think I made you misunderstand what I said just now" Helen said. "I don't mean what I said about you, but Mark."
"What do you mean?"
Biting her lips, Helen worried about having to tell about Mark's dark past or not to Amy, but considering Amy is now her sister's wife, she felt Amy deserved to know her husband's past. Especially if it makes Amy can understand what causes Markus is very difficult to forgive him.
"Do you know Amanda Piers?"
"Amanda Piers?"
Amy's forehead was furrowed trying to remember where she had heard that name before. He was sure that he had heard that name somewhere, only that the memory of that name was still vague in his head.
"She's Mark's ex-fiancee" Helen said, helping him remember.
That's when her memories of Amanda Piers began to be vividly drawn inside her head. In her memory, she also remembered the rumors about the tragedy that befell her husband's fiance at that time.
At that time there were many bad rumors about Mark in connection with the tragedy that befell his fiancee, which of course he considered just mere gossip. Or maybe everything the gossip says is true? No, it's possible.
But what if it's true? Maybe that's why Helen brought up her husband's fiancee, immediately Amy shuddered to imagine what would happen to her later.
Helen, who had been looking at her face as if she knew what she was currently thinking, suddenly said, "I hope you don't believe the bullshit about my sister killing her fiance because she was caught cheating."
"No, of course not. I never once believed in such obscure gossip" Amy panicked. "I'm just. Well, I'm just wondering why you suddenly brought up Mark's fiancee."
For a moment Helen simply observed her face full of probing, looking for signs of lies from her, then her expression turned soft.
"Because this has to do with Mark's tough attitude to trust someone, baby."
Then Helen began to tell at length about Mark's romance with Amanda Piers in the past. From the beginning of their meeting together until an event that made Mark start closing his heart to every woman who came closer until finally he began to open his heart again after meeting Amy.
How torn Amy's heart was listening to the heartbreaking story that had befallen her husband in the past. How could there be any rumor that Markus had killed his fiancee after she was cruelly harmed by her fiance.
No wonder on their wedding night when her lies were exposed Mark looked at her so coldly, she must have reminded her husband of the betrayal his fiance once committed.
It's time for Amy to wake her stupid husband up if he's not the same as his ruthless fiance. She lied, but betrayed her husband, she never did.
"To be honest I still can't believe Manda would do such a heinous thing, let alone end her life" Helen said. "But that's how people are, they're always unpredictable, like you for example."
For a moment Amy thought Helen was insinuating the lies she was doing, but Helen's wink told her that her sister-in-law was just joking.
"Fuck you, Amy, where are you!" the screams were coming from inside the house. "You're not gonna get out of this shit."
"It seems that the lion has woken up from his sleep" Helen sighed dramatically. "As his wife it is your duty to appease the lion."
The two of them were staring at each other with amused eyes.
