"Ah, I see," that's all Amy can say in response to Markus's words.
Hearing that brief response, Markus finally opened his eyes and turned to face Amy who now looked somewhat absentminded.
"Understanding what you mean?"
"Understand that you're not interested in me anymore." Mark's trinket shows that that's not what it means. "Or do you perhaps regret your confession that day?"
Mark shook his head again.
"Why don't you just explain it to me instead of making me guess like this?" amy was impatient. "You're just making me have a headache."
"Truly Amy, why is it so hard for you to see what's in front of your eyes" said Mark enigmatic.
"See what you mean?" Amy shakes her head, watching Mark carefully trying to figure out what he should have seen.
"Poor Amy" said Markus, holding his smile.
"You're pranking me!" amy is upset.
"I want to marry you, Amy Anderson, not to fuck you."
For a few seconds Amy could only be silent staring at Markus, as she did that night at the restaurant.
Mark's love statement that night alone had left him shocked to death, now a marriage proposal? That was enough to make him almost have a heart attack.
It seems that lately Markus is happy to make it too late.
"It seems I've left you out of words again. For the umpteenth time. Ii'm sorry. I didn't mean to," Markus said without the slightest regret, his eyes sparkling mischievously looking at Amy who was still gawking at his seat.
He seemed to be amused by the situation.
"I need to breathe fresh air."
After saying that, Amy rushed out of the car. As if not wanting to give him time to think about the proposal for a moment alone, Mark followed him out.
"I want your answer right now, Amy," Markus said mercilessly. "I've been waiting for you for so long, and now I don't want to put it off any longer to get you in my arms."
"A minute, a minute," Amy interrupted in a panic. "Let me think for a moment, Mark. It's too sudden for me."
"It's not sudden, my dear Amy, since I wanted you to be my wife, it just took me a long time to realize that." Mark turned his eyes to Amy's lips, and at once his eyes began to darken and look hungry. "You don't know how often I pictured you on my bed. That shadow alone almost drove me crazy."
My God, he suddenly started having trouble breathing. That look seemed to expose him. Really crazy.
Taking a deep breath, Amy tried hard to calm her bubbling body listening to the passionate confession.
"If I may ask, why did you change your mind? You must understand my surprise, when just a week ago you asked me out and now you're proposing to me?" ask Amy astonished. "If you were in my position right now, you would definitely feel the same way as me."
"What's the difference between me asking you out on a date or getting married? Both of them make us together, '" replied Markus plainly. "Marriage only makes you completely mine. I'm just speeding up the process, Amy."
"That's all?"
"Yes, that's all" replied Markus quickly. Then suddenly I remembered something else. "Oh yeah, I seem to have forgotten to tell you that soon I'll be back at headquarters. I'm going home to my town, Amy. My job is done here."
Although a little surprised by the information, Amy actually also had guessed that sooner or later Markus will definitely return to his original place.
Since the beginning Mark came here just to help solve various internal problems at the branch office that is here. Although Amy was a bit confused Markus took that long.
"That's why I want to take you with me too. What better solution if not by inviting you to marry," continued Markus. "I can't live without you by my side, Amy. But this time I want you by my side as my wife, instead of my secretary."
Any woman who receives such a heartfelt confession of love is bound to be filled with heart. The same thing happened to Amy.
But even though Amy was deeply moved to know that Mark loved her that deeply, she still could not marry him. Therefore, without thinking for a long time he immediately rejected the proposal of his superior.
"Why? Does this have anything to do with your best friend Samuel?" mason asked voicing his suspicions all along. "Are you in a romantic relationship?"
"No!" quickly objected. "You misunderstood our relationship. Samuel loves Sophie. She's currently dating my sister."
Then the lie flowed out of his mouth with ease. It was as if Amy had prepared herself for that question a long time ago.
He lies if his quarrel with Samuel is related to Sophie. Although Sophie's involvement is true, Sophie's role in the fight is inversely proportional to what actually happened.
Amy deliberately makes an impression if she only mediates a small quarrel of lovers who are drunk in love.
Despite feeling some awkwardness in Amy's story, it's fortunate that Mark doesn't question it any further.
"If that's not the case, why did you reject my proposal?" markus chirps back to the problem about the reason for Amy's rejection. "I didn't get it wrong in the car, did you intend to accept my invitation to go on a date?"
"How did you know?" ask Amy in shock.
"Well, let's just say my instincts are sharp" Markus replied casually. "So?"
That's how his boss is, it's always unexpected. And should he ask his superiors who have such keen instincts, does he know that Amy is actually about to make the most of it by accepting her call to date.
It would be stupid if Amy dared to ask such blunt questions. A moment of that stupid question slid out of his mouth, then it was finished. He will be forced to say goodbye to his glorious career.
Brushing aside that terrifying shadow, Amy ventured to look at Mark's eyes steadily.
"You're right."
"Please understand, Mark. Wanting to get married and agreeing to date you are two very different things. I'm not ready to marry you yet."
"But you're ready to date me. It's strange" Markus murmured. "I don't have time to give you time to think about my marriage proposal carefully, Amy. Please, marry me. I promise I won't make you regret marrying me. I will make you live like a queen" Markus promised, holding her in his arms. "We'll be happy together, honey."
Slowly release of Mark's embrace. "I'm sorry, Mark."
After saying that, Amy ran to leave Markus on the street alone.
***
It had been a week since her conversation with Mark that night, when Amy was sitting pensively in the little cottage where she used to hang out with Samuel and Sophie, she was rethinking her relationship with Mark.
The next day after leaving Markus on the streets after rejecting his proposal, Amy sat nervously in her chair waiting for her boss to arrive.
That day actually Amy was still not ready to meet Markus, and it occurred to him to take leave, but immediately undo his intention.
Amy doesn't want personal problems to affect her work. And knowing Mark's nature, his superiors would definitely not like his impulsive actions.
Amy has always been praised for her professionalism at work. So he does not want yesterday's problems to destroy Mark's trust in him.
Fortunately, he made the right decision. Throughout the day Mark was acting as usual, not once did he bring up the events of the night.
Although relieved, there was a little disappointment in Amy's heart to see Mark's attitude that seemed to consider Amy's rejection was not a big thing for her.
Is that the attitude of a person to the woman he wants to be by his side all his life?
Ignoring the disappointment that began to eat away at her, Amy again busied herself in her work.
A few days later Markus went out of town to take care of his imminent move.
Then here he went back and forth looking at his phone, worried about having to call Markus or not. Because it had been a long time since he had spoken to her, except when the two of them were discussing work.
It was just a short conversation. There are no small pleasantries, such as news or anything that can extend their conversation.
Don't know why Amy misses her casual conversation with her boss. Although they were both only superiors and subordinates, they always talked about many things.
Not just a conversation about work. Maybe that's why Amy misses Markus. He just misses his old boss.
A pleasant boss despite often being indifferent. It felt so empty to work in the room without seeing Markus for a long time.
"I thought you were here" said Samuel sitting next to him.
Samuel's arrival did not surprise him much. Amy had expected Samuel would follow her here. He must have wanted to re-discuss their conversation a week ago.
Because for a week Amy was always trying to figure out how to avoid it. Just like Samuel did to him a while ago.
"You didn't take Sophie?" Amy asked without even once glancing at Samuel.
Sophie came home from the hospital. Her relationship with Samuel led Sophie to recover faster than the time the doctor had expected for her.
"He was busy packing" Samuel answered briefly.
Now his sister must be preparing for a long journey to see Doctor Peter in Cambry. There he will do the treatment in the company of his mother and Samuel.
"Then I'll go to help her pack."
Amy began to rise from her seat, but before she went any further, Samuel jerked her arm.
"I'm not done, Amy," said Samuel fiercely. "Look for a few days now your wood boss has rarely seen you again. Is your relationship with your boss over? Or did what you told me that day just lie about the love between the two of you?"
"It's none of your business."
"That's my business, Amy. Because if what you told me that day was just a lie, I intend to expose the sweet lies you've laid out for Sophie to her" Samuel snapped. "I don't want to continue this false love. I didn't like your crazy idea in the first place, so I decided to admit everything to Sophie."
"You won't dare!" amy is scared.
"Are you testing me?" reply Samuel.
"That's gonna hurt him, Sam. You don't want Sophie to get hurt, either? Did you forget what happened after you rejected him? If you he knew your lies, he'd probably hurt himself again."
"This time you won't succeed, Amy, using my guilt to undo my intentions" said Samuel stubbornly. "I'm tired of this lie."
Samuel's panic will truly manifest its threat. Amy thinks hard about trying to figure out a way to stop Samuel from telling Sophie the truth. Her sister would be more devastated than ever if she knew that.
As he was thinking, his eyes unintentionally turned to Samuel's hand, where he saw Samuel clenching his hand with all his might.
Knowing that, Amy began to calm down a bit. At least Samuel's posture was not as relaxed as he showed.
But just in case, Amy suddenly thought of a brilliant idea that she thought would have a stronger effect on her ex-boyfriend.
"It's too late, Sam. In the near future I'm getting married to Mark."
Well, it's done. In the end, for the sake of their common good, Amy concluded that her marriage to Markus was the right solution.
It was then unthinkable to him that he had just plunged himself into greater trouble.
