I hesitated. Not because I did not want to accept Sister Rena anymore, but I still remembered the incident that day.
Rey's sister sued Rena, but I begged her to have the charges lifted immediately. Mama Sonya begged and apologized to me at the hospital. He said he had no one but Rena. How could I bear to see a woman I once thought of as a mother shed tears of such sorrow. Anyway I'm fine. Sis Rena does that because of her emotional impulses alone.
I understand that too. Sis Rena who always fulfilled all her wishes since childhood must be faced with the fact that her husband cherished her, must be very difficult to accept. Moreover, her husband prefers a third person like me. As a fellow woman I understand her actions despite disagreeing.
I opened the door wide, letting him in. At first Father and Mother-in-law were surprised by the presence of Kak Rena, but then they put on a flat face.
Without any more caring for me, Sister Rena came in after seeing my two in-laws inside. He was friendly and polite, greeting by bowing. However, when Sis Rena was about to kiss the back of Father-in-law's hand, she pulled her hand quickly.
Father-in-law's attitude was cold. Especially to others. He was a little warm when he became a family. He was like that to me before.
"Sit, Brother!" I invite Sister Rena to sit down. He is a guest and I am the host.
He shook his head in response. "Can we speak four eyes?"
"Why four eyes?" Father-in-law interrupted. "Is there anything you're keeping secret?"
Highlight Dad's eyes so sharply pointed at Sister Rena. I don't even dare to bully or defend Kak Rena.
"No. It's not like that. It's just .. There's something personal about our family."
"That's it, Mom, no need to interfere. I'm sure Alea can handle it. Anyway we're here. Rena can't possibly dare to mess around." Mother mediates the tension that was created. I felt the attention of both my in-laws. "Solve your problems. Althaf let us take care of it. Go, Mas! We're going to the back garden."
I see Dad seems heavily approving. But again, he always obeyed whatever Mother said. They then passed and left the living room.
Now, it's just me and Sister Rena. He sat facing me. His two hands were intertwined, as if there was a sense of nervousness whacking him.
"What's up, brother?" I ask who is impatient. Rena said there are problems related to our family. What does Mama Sonya mean?
"Alea, I'm here to apologize to you. Brother didn't mean to harm you back then. My sister is emotional. Do you know that it's hard for you to accept this divorce?"
Kak Rena's face looks tangled, as if she is no longer taking care of herself. Did the divorce make her worse?
"Sister, I've forgiven you. I'm not angry at you at all. I know it's hard, but I have to say that, please forget Rey! Sorry if I was selfish. I just want my family to calm down. I want my son to have a complete family, no lack of parental affection."
She's speechless. We also just flinch on the spot while digesting the contents of each other's minds. Until then Kak Rena voiced.
"I've let Rey go. Take good care of him. I regretted wasting it. I was selfish. But, I really love her. Although it was a difficult decision, I will try to forget it. I ... don't want to mourn him every day. I don't want to be a third party either."
"Sister, I'm sure you'll be happy. I will always pray for you happiness. Sorry, for my decision to defend Rey. I had to do it for my son. He's not guilty. He deserves the love of his father."
Sis Rena hugged me as we both got up from sitting, standing up. After a year, Rena finally hugged me. She was crying, crying on my shoulder. Kak Rena's body posture is higher than mine. He hugged while sobbing in tears.
I don't know if this is a starting point for my life and Sister Rena is changing. But, I was relieved to hear Sister Rena trying to make Kak Rey for me.
Sis Rena resigned herself, met my two in-laws who were chatting while holding Althaf alternately. I saw Father who used to have a cold face kissing his grandson's cheek many times. I smiled, and many loved Althaf.
"You're so lucky, yeah, Alea! Your life can be this happy."
I looked towards Sister Rena. He stared ahead at where Mother and Father were nurturing the Althaf lovingly. "Yes, after so many bad things I've been through, I'm so grateful to be at this point. I'm sure Brother will also get happiness someday if Brother wants to."
"really?" He looks unsure. "I doubt that. But, I'll try," he said.
We finally caught up with my two in-laws with Kak Rena intending to say goodbye. Mother smiled at us, then said, "Why so fast?"
"Yes, Bun, there's a sudden business." Sister Rena replied. "Alea, can I play here often? If there is a spare, I want to play with my nephew" he said, rubbing Althaf's cheek in Dad's sling.
"no need. You better not be here too often. Let Rey be happy with her little family." Father answered straightforwardly. He was always firm without thinking about the feelings of others.
"I just want to meet my nephew, not Rey" replied Rena. His face was red when he said that. I'm sure Kak Rena is embarrassed to hear the words of Father who is very clear.
"Here, fetch! You can carry it now. If you love him and want to be around him."
I don't know why it's like this. Though Kak Rena just want to visit, but Daddy does not seem to like it.
Sis Rena looked doubtful as she reached out her hand. However, eventually Althaf was in his carriage as well. He looks stiff when carrying a baby. Just like I was at the beginning. Hopefully, by holding my son, his wounded heart is comforted a little.
For about five minutes, Rena returned Althaf to me. He said there was business. Her lips kissed the cheeks of Althaf's puffer. "I go first" he told me.
"Alea!" Dad called me after Rena's back was away. I turned around, looking at him. "Peach your husband! Don't trust other women too much, even if it's your own brother."
