We arrived at the hospital an hour later. I'm worried of course. I almost wish this car could fly, half of it I'm worried about Mom, half of it I'm worried about, don't know if I have enough money.
I'm trying to put my money aside for something like this, there's but I'm not even sure it's going to be enough. The cost of healthcare in the US is incredible. Even though I'm helped with Medicare.
"Calm down, he's probably fine. If detected early, there will be no problems. Hopefully not severe and can be treated with medication. I have an uncle whose mild stroke his doctor gave him medication and shortly after observation of his blockage where he can go home." Nicholai tried to calm me down.
"Yes I hope so too."
I kept thinking maybe if I couldn't borrow from Uncle if the money I was holding wasn't enough.
"You have insurance for hospital costs."
"What?"
"Do you have insurance?"
"No, I have a little stash, if it's not enough I'll borrow it to my Uncle." Even though I'm not sure he has.
"Don't worry about the cost. I can borrow you." I looked at Nicholai in disbelief.
"Why are you so good, if I borrow you I might not be able to return it anytime soon. You're even in a different city than me. Don't you love your money."
"I'm not rich enough." He grimaced, I looked at him with various considerations in my mind.
"Thank you, Nic, I don't know how to get back at you. Actually Mom is 65 years old and she is covered by Medicare, the government health service, still I have to pay 20% of the cost to the ER like this. I've got a little savings I don't know if that's enough."
*Medicare (us government health service for citizens 65 years and older)
"I hope I don't need to borrow your money."
"If you can't pay? What the hell's going on? Are they gonna take your mom off?"
"Simple, they'll take it off of course, I'll be visited by debt collectors every month. They're gonna make me pay, even force me to sell my assets. I'll be more stressed." That's why many people don't want to go to the hospital willingly they don't want their money robbed of America's inhumane hospital system especially if they don't have insurance.
If they are forced to go to an emergency, they choose not to pay the bills or pay what only they can afford.
"If necessary, it won't be so big. It's okay, your mom's healthy and you don't think about it much." This pull partner is so good.
"Thank you Nic, I don't know how to get back at you after this." He's laughing a little.
"Later you'll find a way to repay me. As long as you don't daydream about the stage, the important thing is that you can perform well and not get hurt by daydreaming about hospital costs." He smiled, patting my shoulder made me feel comfortable.
I ran half into the hospital. And get Mrs. Harrison was waiting for me.
"Mrs. Harrison, thank you so much for helping Mom, where she is."
"He's having some tests, I don't know if the doctor will ask him to stay or not. We are asked to wait. Looks like they'll hold it for observation, my sister used to be too."
"So we have to wait."
"Yes we have to wait."
