Heavy rain is pouring down the city. Nora awoke from her sleep when she heard the sound of objects breaking from outside her room. He immediately got up from his bed and put on a warm pink robe. He ran towards the dining room with his heart pounding.
There, he saw a scene that made him hold his breath. Shards of glass were scattered on the floor, along with the remnants of spilled food. In front of the refrigerator, a middle-aged man stood up blankly. He held a can of soda in his hand and drank it as if nothing had happened.
His father was Renanda Aidit Satria. A famous former architect who is now an alcoholic. He often makes trouble at home and hurts his mother, Rayna Grace Dahlia. A successful woman who still works as a senior architect at a large corporation.
Nora saw her mother crouching on the floor, cleaning up broken glass with a broom and a pengki. Beside her, her house-dwelling aunt helped her by taking a wet handkerchief from the kitchen. They both looked tired and sad.
Nora could not bear to see her mother treated like that. He ran towards her and grabbed her tightly. He took the pengki out of his hand and threw it at his father in anger.
“Mother, don't clean this up! Let's have a bad dad! Mother is a great woman who became the idol of many people! Mother cannot be humbled by father!” Nora spoke in a loud voice.
His mother looked at him affectionately and patted his hair. “Nora, dear .. Mommy is fine. Don't be angry. You have to hurry to school, it's almost seven.”
Before Nora could answer, she felt a rough hand embrace her shoulder. He looked over and saw his father's face smiling sinisterly. The smell of alcohol stung his nose.
“Good morning, my daughter! You see, how great is your bundle? He can take care of this household well even though your father can no longer work. It's all thanks to your father first.” His father said in a proud tone.
"Mas Satria don't bother your daughter. He wants to go to school." Rayna Grace Dahlia pulled her husband's hand so as not to disturb her daughter. He just doesn't want a fight between two people he cares about.
Renanda Aidit Satria, the middle-aged man who became Nora's father. The man looked at Nora with a disdainful look. She said, "My daughter .. You don't need a high school like Rayna. You will also take care of your husband, so you better take advantage of Rayna's money first."
Nora who heard instantly looked at her father in disbelief. He just walked away without saying a word. He was fed up of seeing that person who looked like an uneducated person.
His father snorted and shouted loudly. “Basic of a disobedient child! You don't know yourself, do you? You don't need to go to high school like your mom! You will also become a wife and take care of the household! You better take advantage of your mother's money now, before she wakes up and leaves you!”
Nora turned around and ran out of the house. He did not care about the screams of his father who followed him. He just wants to get out of there as soon as possible. He wanted to go to school, where he could study and dream.
Outside, the rain was still pouring down. Nora just brought an umbrella. He just ran towards the car that was waiting for him in front of the fence. The car belonged to his mother, who drove him to school every morning.
Along the way, Nora stared at the rain that soaked the earth as well as sometimes closed her eyes. He tried to forget what had just happened in his house. He tries to remember things that make him happy, such as his friends at school, books he likes to read, or songs he likes to hear.
His eyes opened slowly. At the red light intersection. In the midst of the heavy rain was also a strong wind. Nora saw something that made her smile. At the bus stop near the school, he saw Ervin standing in the rain.
Ervin looked soaked, but he didn't care. He raised his hand towards the sky, and caught the raindrops with his palm. He smiled widely, as if enjoying the rain as a blessing.
"Uncle will stop near the bus stop. Nora wants to be with her underclassman" Nora pinta pointed at the stop. His smiling face saw the calm face of the figure.
The driver's uncle looked back with a worried expression. “Nona Nora, it's raining heavily. Later Madam is angry if she finds out Miss took the bus.”
“Uncle don't worry. Uncle said it was the same mother that Nora had arrived at school. Lagian Nora will have an umbrella,” Nora said with a sweet smile.
The driver's uncle sighed and nodded. She knew Nora was an independent and courageous girl. He also knows Nora is very close to Madam, her mother is always busy working and there is rarely time for Nora.
The white luxury car stopped by the roadside, not far from the bus stop. Nora immediately took the red umbrella from the back seat and opened it. He got out of the car and waved to the driver's uncle as a sign of gratitude.
The cold touched his skin. He walked and stood beside Ervin, the man he had recently met. The man was not aware of his existence. He smiled as he closed his umbrella.
Nora is curious about Ervin who is always quiet and obedient. He wanted to be friends with her and know more about her. He also wanted to know the relationship between Ervin and Giovanni, who seemed to be very familiar and affectionate with each other.
Ervin looked over in shock. He sees Nora who is soaked but still beautiful in her blue-red school uniform. Nora simply smiled by waving her hand in front of the man's face. He was silent as Ervin looked at him in wonder.
"Remain here, Brother?" ervin asked with a scratch on his neck.
"If it's here, it means you get on the bus" Nora replied with a small laugh. He felt funny at his class sister's statement.
The two of them stood at the bus stop while staring at the streets that were wet with rain. The cold wind blew fiercely, making Nora shiver. He felt something warm covering his shoulders and neck. He turned his head and saw Ervin giving him his brown jacket.
"Wear it, brother. I know you're cold." Ervin smiled by pointing at his jacket to ask Nora to close it to make it warmer.
Nora was touched by Ervin's attention. He thanked me and put on the jacket. He felt warmer and more comfortable with the smell of fragrance attached to the jacket.
Shortly after, the bus they were waiting for came with a honk. Nora smiled thinly. He looked to the left with his hand. He didn't know if Ervin was holding back laughing at his behavior. This was probably the first time he had ever been on a bus.
They immediately boarded the bus and paid the fare with their respective bus cards. Nora is a bit of a hassle because she usually uses an ATM card to pay for everything.
"Hold first, Brother," Ervin pinta by taking out his card. No need to do repeated, he could pay the bus fee in one try.
"Bus can't use atm cards, brother. Just can use the bus card," added Ervin by showing a card of his.
Nora smiled shyly by following Ervin's steps. He was just this time embarrassed in public with many people watching them. They both sat behind the bus.
Nora looked towards the window. Nora felt strange and excited about this new experience. He usually takes a private car to school, without ever feeling the atmosphere on the bus. He sees different people, from different backgrounds and goals. He also felt the vibration of the bus engine that made him sleepy.
Unknowingly, he fell asleep on the shoulder of Ervin, who was also asleep with his head lowered. They look like friendly lovers, even though they have just become friends. They do not care about the gazes of those around them, who may be envious or astonished.
“Kak Nora! Wake, Brother!”
Nora woke up surprised. He saw Ervin patting his cheek gently. He looked out the window and realized that they had arrived in front of the school.
“Yes, I overslept,” muttered Nora with shame.
“Gapapa, Brother. Come down, before the bus runs again,” Ervin said quickly.
They both got off the bus in a hurry. They ran to the school gate, carrying their umbrellas and bags. They did not realize that many eyes were staring at them with admiration or envy.
Nora was happy and happy. He felt today would be a great day. He hugged Ervin and said, “Yuk, go to school together! Don't care about other people!”
