Chapter 264: Visiting Alex
Vito Narendra entered the prison on his wheelchair with the help of the driver. He looked around the room, looking for the whereabouts of his son, Alex. Vito is nervous because after a dozen years this will be the first time to meet his son.
He deliberately came alone without telling his plans to either his other sons or his wife.
Before coming, he asked one of his acquaintance's police to arrange the meeting.
Upon arriving at the prisoner's den, Vito finally saw Alex sitting in the corner of the room, among the other inmates. Alex raised his head and looked at his father, looking awkward and astonished.
Alex still recognizes his father's face even though he looks older than he used to. I still can't believe that his father is alive.
Vito took a deep breath and approached his son who had not met for a long time. "Alex, how are you?" ask Vito in a soft voice.
Alex just nodded, he didn't speak. The atmosphere became awkward as Vito did not know what to say. The two of them stared at each other, pondering over the words to fill the silence.
Vito smiled. "You must still be surprised, yes, seeing your father is still alive" Vito said. "I also did not expect to still be given the opportunity to meet with my sons. Even though your father is now no longer able to walk as he used to."
Alex saw the condition of his papa in a wheelchair. "Mama how are you?" ask Alex.
"Mama's fine. Papa will bring him here sometime to pick you up" replied Vito.
"Don't, there's no need" Alex said.
In Alex's memory, Indira is a kind, gentle, loving woman. Although not a child, he was treated the same as his other siblings. For Alex, Indira is like her own mother. He will be ashamed if a loved one sees himself in such a condition.
"No one has told Mama your whereabouts. But, I'm sure he'll be happy to see you," Vito said reassuringly.
"It's not necessary, Pa. Just let Mama don't know forever" Alex asked.
Vito looked at his son with a sad look. Alex is the second son born to another woman he accidentally slept with while drunk. Alex's real mother was a waitress at a nightclub and had died one year after Alex was born.
Alex was sent to the Narendra family residence at the time. Indira and grandfather are shocked to learn that Vito has had a son from another woman. Grandpa actually banned Alex from living there. However, with an airy heart, Indira is willing to accept and care for Alex like her own child.
Vito loves his wife, Indira. He was also grateful for the greatness of the heart of the woman to forgive the mistakes she had done.
"Alex, I never thought that you would do something like this. Why did you kill your grandfather?" ask Vito regretting Alex's actions.
Alex is apparently intrigued by his father's question. He took a deep breath before starting to explain. "Pa, grandpa treated me unfairly. He always thought of me as your bastard son. He never even looked me in the face when we spoke" he replied.
Vito looks surprised to hear Alex's explanation. "What do you mean unfairly? How'd he treat you?"
Alex looks sad as he recalls his childhood memories. "Grandfather always underestimated me, comparing me to my other brother. Grandfather never gave me the same opportunity, even when I asked him for help."
Vito feels sad and guilty for the treatment Alex receives. "I never realized that you suffered like that, Alex. Forgive papa."
Vito is sorry for what happened. He could understand how difficult it was for Alex to live without him. He did know that his father did not want Alex in the house. Grandpa always said that his grandson only had four.
"It's okay, Pa. That too is long gone. The most important thing is the present" Alex said in a trembling voice.
Vito looked at his son with a sharp look. "Then what really happened, Alex?"
Alex gulped and tried to explain. "I was upset with Alan. Grandfather always favored him and underestimated me because I was an illegitimate child. I can't take it anymore and tell people to hurt Alan. But it turns out that grandpa was in the car with Alan at the time. It wasn't like I thought, Grandpa was seriously injured in an accident by the man I sent. And finally grandfather died."
Vito was silent for a moment, digesting everything his son had said. "You know, Alex, what you did was very wrong" he said.
It felt like he wanted to cry knowing that there were problems going on between his sons. He used to take care of them in order to love each other.
"There's no reason to hurt others, even if they upset you. Grandpa is still our family and should be respected" Vito said. "Why did you even think that far to Alan? He's your own brother!" he said with a disappointed tone.
Alex lowered his head. "I know, Pa. I'm so sorry for what happened. I never thought it would be like this in the end."
Vito took a long breath. "We can't change what has happened, Alex. All we can do now is accept the consequences of your actions and try to right your wrongs."
Alex nodded in understanding. "I'm ready to take the punishment I deserve, Pa. I'm not running away from my responsibilities."
During his time in prison, Alex became more and more mused. He repeatedly regretted his actions. He should have been more patient with Grandpa.
Vito stroked his son's shoulders. "That's what you have to do, Alex. That's the name of the man in charge" he said with a twinkle of pride. "But remember, even if you make a mistake, you are still my son and I will always love you."
Alex develops a smile. He was happy to meet his real father.
After a moment of silence, Vito took a deep breath and looked at his son seriously. "Alex, as long as you're here, do your brothers regularly visit you?" tanyakanya.
Alex shook his head sadly. "No, Pa. I've never seen them here. But, that's only natural. I killed my grandfather" he said.
Vito looks upset and sad with the attitude of his sons who seem indifferent. Whatever Alex is, they're still brothers. "I can't believe they can behave like this towards you,"
Alex took a deep breath. "It's okay, Pa. That's not a big thing. Besides, there was Irene who visited me a few times" Alex replied.
"Irene?" repeat Vito, a little surprised. "Is that Alan's future wife?"
Alex nodded. "Yes, Pa. She's a good woman. Though I often did bad things to her, but Irene still cared about me. He always brought me food and books. He also likes to remind me to repent" he said, chuckling.
While recalling her moments in prison with Irene, the woman always told her to repent in order to be forgiven. Although it sucks, but Alan can feel Irene's attention to him.
Vito smiled slightly hearing that. "I see she's a good woman."
Alex agreed. "Sister Alan was very lucky to get a wife like Irene. I hope they can live happily."
Their conversation continued for an hour, discussing Alex's future. Vito calms his son and gives him hope. Alex could finally smile back, feeling there was hope for his future.
After the visit was over, Vito left the visiting room feeling relieved and happy. He believed that he would help his son to improve his condition.
