Chapters. 141 - Conference of the Seven Families

A year later, the Nanming Conference of Emperor Zhang's Palace.

The Nanming Conference was a gathering commonly conducted by the seven great families namely the Zhao, Zhang, Li, Bai, Yun, Cheng and Mu families. The palace conducts this conference for 20 years and whoever manages to get the highest score, their family will be ranked first as the strongest family.

All the extended family members of the seven surnames, gathered at one point and lined up in their respective ranks according to the sequence number. They all looked gallant with swords hanging on one part of their bodies except, Mu Chen Xiao who had to lose his sword after he learned dark magic.

As he was watching all the other extended family members standing around him because right now, the Mu family was lined up in the very middle row. Mu Chen Xiao's gaze instantly fixated on Zhao Bingyan who was currently sitting on one of the seats of the family higher ups along with the other six family heads.

Right now, Zhao Bingyan was looking at him with an expression of pity as well as disbelief as she could meet him here. However, Mu Chen Xiao could not immediately respond that he was pitying him. He immediately turned his gaze to another object with a gaze that was very indifferent to him.

”Does he hate me? Or trying not to look at me?” zhao Bingyan thought as she looked at it. ”... It seemed like Zhao Wei Lu was right. Xiao'er probably won't forgive me until now.”

"Grandmaster Zhao!" The cry of Li Chu Yi who had suddenly appeared behind him and this woman just immediately sat on the empty seat that was next to her. "... Did the Grandmaster come here to replace Master Yuan?"

Zhao Bingyan who was staring at him replied, "Yes. He's too old. I'm afraid he'll pass out while watching them fight." He answered while staring back at the people who were in the middle of the field.

As he answered her, Li Chu Yi looked awkward with a face that seemed to be very hesitant to ask Zhao Bingyan. He pulled his hair behind his earlobe and looked at Zhao Bingyan with his glowing-looking eyeballs.

"By the way, after this conference is over, what will Grandmaster Zhao do next?" Li Chu Yi asked with a face that seemed to be starting to turn red.

Zhao Bingyan was stunned and her gaze instantly led to Li Chu Yi sitting next to her. "... What's wrong?" That question made Li Chu Yi stop looking at him.

Li Chu Yi was silent for a while before she finally asked, "Will Grandmaster Zhao not run for the next Zhao family leader?"

"Lu'er will inherit it." It was Zhao Bingyan's chirp that made Li Chu Yi surprised to hear it.

After he felt surprised at hearing his reply, Li Chu Yi slightly laughed and again asked, "Why don't you just be their leader?"

Zhao Bingyan immediately replied, "That's all a family secret." His reply was to instantly conceal the truth that Zhao Bingyan had actually rejected the position.

"Ouch, man,... Yan'er is really insensitive huh. Li Chu Yi wants you to marry her immediately." It was Cheng Xing Xian's spell that appeared suddenly behind them.

Both of them looked back with different expressions. Li Chu Yi who seemed to be very surprised, immediately left her place as she wanted to escape from Zhao Bingyan's next question. However, Zhao Bingyan herself was confused as she did not expect Cheng Xing Xian's sudden arrival.

"You are very capable of making Master Chu Yi leave here." Zhao Bingyan said after she saw Cheng Xing Xian sitting next to her in place of Li Chu Yi who had previously escaped from her.

"Yan! Awake little! Don't you know why Li Chu Yi asked about the successor of the Zhao family?" Cheng Xing Xian asked indifferently.

Zhao Bingyan who did not understand this at all asked, "What's wrong? Isn't that the secret of each family?"

Cheng Xing Xian expressionless and said, "I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Li Chu Yi wants you to marry her immediately. Have you not noticed his attitude lately? You are 33 years old and Li Chu Yi is 30 years old. Are you not at all aware that you are so old?" Say it nonchalantly.

Zhao Bingyan looked puzzledly and asked back, "Does Master Chu Yi like me? When did he say he liked me?"

"My past time when I met Li Chu Yi?" Zhao Bingyan muttered that thinking about it.

20 Years ago, Xuanzhou city.

Zhao Bingyan first met Li Chu Yi when she was 13 and Li Chu Yi was 10. The two met while Li Chu Yi was running in fear of being chased by her own stepmother who was going to sell her to the entertainment house.

"Young master! Help me!" Said Li Chu Yi who was directly hiding behind Zhao Bingyan who did not know anything why Li Chu Yi could be frightened like this.

"Eh? What's up?" Zhao Bingyan asked in confusion.

"S~ save me from my stepmother!" Li Chu Yi replied with great fear and continued to hug Zhao Bingyan's waist which was still staring at him in a daze.

Seeing that, Zhao Bingyan directly protected Li Chu Yi from the woman and forbade her from approaching Li Chu Yi who was hiding behind her.

"What's this about? Why are you making a scene in town?" Zhao Bingyan asked with a serious expression as she looked at him.

"Don't just because you're young master here you can ban what I want to do to that damn girl. Quickly give him!" The woman's words strongly forced her to immediately hand over Li Chu Yi.

Zhao Bingyan brushed off the hand of the woman who tried to touch Li Chu Yi and said, "Miss, can you explain what happened? What is the lady thinking now? Why do I have to hand this girl over to you?" He asked what made the woman shocked when she heard it.

"Don't interfere! Quickly give him to me!" Jerk the woman while hitting her wood towards Zhao Bingyan.

As the blow was aimed at him, Zhao Bingyan immediately resisted the attack and threw away the wood that was about to injure him.

"What if I buy it from you?" Zhao Bingyan asked who was still protecting Li Chu Yi behind her.

"Well! What do you think you can do for me?! Quickly hand over this boy!" Said the woman while forcing Li Chu Yi to follow her immediately.

However, when he saw the woman forcibly withdraw Li Chu Yi's hand to leave him immediately, Zhao Bingyan immediately pulled him back and threw a sum of money in the form of gold pieces in front of the woman's face.

Suddenly it made anyone very surprised and could only be silent watching the three of them.

"Don't think I can't fight an old woman like you! Take the fifty pieces of gold and get out of my sight!" Zhao Bingyan said firmly and coldly to the woman.

After being pelted with money, the woman growled and hardened her fist in annoyance with Zhao Bingyan's attitude towards her.

"I'll report it to your family!" Jerking the woman however, she no longer looked at Zhao Bingyan and Li Chu Yi as she looked towards them.

At the same time, Zhao Bingyan pulled Li Chu Yi away towards somewhere far away from the woman. He did not even believe that a young master like Zhao Bingyan would be willing to save an ugly girl like him.

"Young master! Thank you for saving me." Said Li Chu Yi as the two had stopped walking in front of the Zhao residence.

Zhao Bingyan was stunned and speechless looking at him for a while.

"It's okay. Qian Yue said that if there is someone you want to save then, congratulations to him for maybe regret will haunt you in the future." Zhao Bingyan replied a moment later.

Li Chu Yi was silent for a while before she replied, "Again, thank you for the young master for saving me! In exchange, I will be a servant here!" His words were spontaneously made which made Zhao Bingyan feel objectionable upon hearing it.

"No need to do it. I'll take you home. Oh, aye. What's yourname?" Zhao Bingyan asked back.

"My name is Chu Yi." Answer it awkwardly.

"Then? What's your family name?"

"Li Chu Yi's. My surname is Li Chu Yi."

Hearing this, Zhao Bingyan immediately laughed happily and placed her palm over Li Chu Yi's head while saying, "Then, we are acquaintances. My name is Bingyan and my surname is Zhao Bingyan. Glad I finally got to see you."

"Congratulations! She was your first love." Said Qian Yue who had since noticed and listened to them speak from behind their gate.

Hearing that, Zhao Bingyan's face immediately reddened and said, "Qian Yue! Don't say that in front of him!" Chirp Zhao Bingyan while pushing in Qian Yue back to her residence.

20 Years later.

”Hmm,... I didn't think I could remember until now. I suddenly thought about how Qian Yue was doing right now.” Inner Zhao Bingyan who recalled it before finally the warning bell rang and it was time for the Palace higher-ups to inform about the rules at this year's conference.
